Chapter 7 This Kind of Woman isn’t Worth It

Sophia didn't know why, but she agreed. She completed the induction procedures and worked for an afternoon. She found the job very easy and not as difficult as she had imagined, so she decided to stay.

On her way home, she always felt like someone was watching her. Sophia turned around and saw a black Bentley parked not far away. The window was slightly rolled down, and she could only vaguely see half of a side profile.

Was that Zach?

She decided to ignore him!

When Sophia got back home, she video called Liam and unexpectedly discovered that the house behind him was magnificent and luxurious. Sophia frowned. "Whose house did you go to?"

"Mrs. Hastings' house. She really likes me. She even made me a lot of pastries today. I really like it," Liam happily rolled around on the bed while holding his phone.

Sophia always felt unsafe leaving him with strangers and wanted to bring him back. However, Liam said, "I promised Mrs. Hastings to stay here for a week. She would be very sad if I left now. Mrs. Hastings is all alone at home, it's really pitiful. Her son is sick and she can't have children of her own, so he was kicked out. Can I stay with her a few more days?"

"What about her family?" Sophia questioned.

Liam said, "Mrs. Hastings has a son, but he was kicked out because he couldn't have children of his own. She is all alone and her son's illness is really unfortunate. Can I spend more time with her?"

"Okay," Sophia no longer insisted. They spent half an hour on a video call before going to sleep.

The next morning, Sophia took a car to the warehouse and quickly got promoted! As the new warehouse manager, she asked Emily Green, "Do you promote people so quickly in your company?"

"It's deserved. The boss wants you to work hard," Emily smiled and left. After leaving the warehouse, she whispered to a few warehouse employees, "The manager said to give the new person a good 'training'. From today onwards, all the work is to be done by her alone, got it?"

The employees looked at each other, hesitating, "Can Sophia handle all the work alone?"

"That's her problem. The rest of you come with me to report to another department," Emily led a few junior staff members away.

The entire warehouse was left with only Sophia. As goods needed to be registered and processed one after another, Sophia realized that all the people who were originally responsible for this had disappeared. She was left to do everything alone!

...

By the time Victor finished dealing with the last email in his inbox, it was already 2 am. He rubbed his forehead wearily and suddenly felt a headache. Victor opened his eyes. "Where is that woman?"

"She is still in the warehouse moving goods," David reported with his head lowered.

Victor casually flipped open a file and lazily asked, "Did Paul contact her?"

"Mr. Hastings, no," David shook his head.

Victor's thin lips curled into a mocking smile. He disdainfully commented, "She's pretending."

David nodded in agreement and said disdainfully, "Where did Paul find this woman? He's audacious, using any means necessary to achieve his goals!"

Sophia's scolding voice suddenly resounded in Victor's mind, causing him to feel a bit dazed.

"Mr. Hastings, did I say something wrong?" David noticed Victor's gloomy expression and hurriedly asked.

Victor had no interest in working anymore. After closing the file, he asked, "Deal with Paul. I don't want to see him for a while."

"Hasn't he already been dealt with?" David puzzledly met Victor's cold gaze and explained, "Yesterday evening, Mr. Carter went to Paul's company and dragged him out...uh... they had a fight. Didn't you know?"

"Zach?" Victor frowned. He had not talked to Zach about this matter before.

David didn't expect Victor to really be unaware, so he said, "Mr. Carter originally wanted to let off some steam, but ended up getting beaten by Paul's bodyguard. Mr. Hastings, when you go to the hospital to change bandages, would you mind visiting him as well? It will help ease the tension between you two."

"Let's discuss it later." Victor was tired and asked David to go back first while he rested in his office.

When he woke up, it was already morning. Victor opened the computer monitor and glanced at the warehouse. Sophia was already exhausted, slumped in her chair. He sneered and grabbed his car keys to go to the hospital.

Zach was staying in the VIP ward on the 7th floor. He was quite seriously injured.

"Don't laugh. Who let you in!" Zach angrily scolded when he saw Victor walking in.

Since finding out about Jessica's relationship with Victor, Zach started to dislike him and would get angry every time he saw him.

Victor coldly threw the breakfast on the table. His demeanor was cold and aloof. "Causing trouble and ending up in the hospital, is that your capability?"

Zach paused, looking somewhat embarrassed. "My affairs don't concern you!"

Victor lazily pulled out a chair and leaned back on the backrest. "Paul hired a lawyer today to sue you. Should I not be concerned either?"

"He has the audacity to sue me after doing such a disgusting thing!" Zach was very angry and suddenly sat up, but his movement caused pain in his injured shoulder, making him moan.

Zach's eyes turned red, and after a while, he looked at Victor. "You have to help me."

"Why should I?" Victor's long fingers lightly tapped on the table, his lips slightly curved. He acted as if it had nothing to do with him.

Zach lowered his head and guiltily said, "Uncle Victor, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have treated you that way before. I know I was wrong. This time, you must help me. It concerns my lifetime happiness!"

Victor raised an eyebrow and asked, "Why?"

"She's back. Paul took her away from me. This time, I won't let her leave me. So, Uncle Victor, as long as you can help me keep her, I will listen to you no matter what!" Zach swore.

Victor was puzzled. "Paul is competing with you for a woman?"

"Yes. It's all my fault for hiding my identity in the beginning. It's all my fault. Uncle Victor, I've already missed one chance, and I don't want to lose her again. Please help me, okay?" This was the first time Zach had ever begged Victor like this.

Under normal circumstances, if Zach had approached him with this attitude, Victor would have agreed, but...

"This kind of woman isn't worth it. Woerek has plenty of socialites. You don't need to be so stubborn."

Although Victor and Zach didn't have a good relationship, Zach called him "Uncle Victor," so Victor felt the need to educate Zach. How could a man be so obsessed with a woman, especially considering that she was Paul's woman? She must not be a good woman.

The Carter family had a lot of influence in Woerek, and Zach was their only son. Even if Zach's woman didn't aim for a high societal status, she couldn't have any blemishes.

Paul had a bad reputation. He was married, but would often have affairs with other women. Most of the girls who got involved with him were not reputable.
