Unlucky Day Are Not On The Calendar

"I'm at your door? Can you come out now?"

"Okay wait a minute!"

Jimmy came out of the dormitory door with a cynical face, I knew he would see me like that. I smiled like a fool trying to attract the sympathy of my college-aged little brother.

"Hi Jimmy, how are you? You seem healthy, right?"

"What do you want to come here for?"

"Hey, don't talk like that to your sister who has come all the way to see how you are! Erm... won't you invite me inside so we can chat casually?"

"Why are you carrying a suitcase? Where do you live?"

"I-I-"

"I know! You must be homeless, right?"

"Don't talk carelessly! Who are you calling a homeless?"

"If not homeless, what else? Who in their right mind carries a suitcase around like that?"

"Okay, you're right! But what can I do? Finding a job will be difficult. Moreover, I'm only a high school graduate."

"It's your own fault! Wasting so many opportunities in your life! Now you know what that feels like, right?"

"Never mind, don't give me advice! I'm seven years older than you!"

"No matter how old you are, if your attitude is still childish like this you won't be successful! So, just give up and go back to your hometown!"

"If I go home now, what will happen? I've only been in New York three days and just give up? What will people say about me?"

"It's your own fault! Besides, everyone in the city already knows what kind of person you are? So why are you only now thinking about people's judgment?"

"Ah never mind! I don't want to hear it from you. Lend me some money!" I said while raising my hand.

"You beggar! Came to college student's place to ask for money. When can you give me pocket money?"

"Later, when I get a job, I will definitely give you pocket money. Now lend me 2000 dollars, I want to rent an apartment!"

"What? 2000 dollars? Are you crazy? Where do I have that much money? You're crazy!"

"You got a scholarship from university, right? Surely you got pocket money too. Mom and Dad will also send you pocket money, I'm sure of that! So, please lend me 2000 dollars!"

"I don't have that much money. Go away, don't bother me!" Jimmy said as he walked away.

"W-wait! Lend me some money!" I asked while hugging Jimmy's back and holding him back from leaving before giving me the money.

"No! Let go of me! If you're like this, I'll scream!"

"Scream if you dare! I'll hit you!"

"You crazy woman! Go away...!" He shouted while trying to get out of my arms. Of course I will lose to my younger brother, this is a man with greater strength. Jimmy pushed you away and went straight into his room.

"Jimmy...! Jimmy...! I beg you! Lend me some money! If you don't give it I will wait at the door! Jimmy...!" I shouted while banging hard on the door.

Meanwhile, in his room, Jimmy looked very depressed seeing his older sister's crazy behavior. Conny, his roommate, was confused because of the screaming woman who kept calling Jimmy's name like a debt collector.

"Jim, who's screaming at the door?"

"Crazy woman! Just ignore her!" He said curtly.

Even though he was annoyed, he also felt sorry. Because no matter what, the woman he called crazy was his biological sister. With a heavy heart, Jimmy took out the money from his personal safe and opened the door.

"Hey, crazy witch! You've annoyed people. Take this and get out of here!" He said while giving me some money.

"300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 700 Dollars? only 700 Dollars? This is not enough!" I said protest.

"I only have that much, if you don't want it, give me the money back!"

"Okay, never mind, then I'll go first!"

"Hey, don't forget to return the money!"

"Yeah, you noisy!" I said as I walked away and pulled my suitcase.

"Damn! Why do I have to have a sister like her?"

My eyes caught a five-story apartment building that looked simple, but quite nice. If you pay attention, this building stands in the middle of the city which is very strategic, besides that it is also quite quiet compared to other apartments.

"Everdeen Apartments. Isn't that my family name? Do any relatives have apartments in New York? I don't think so." I thought while chewing the apple that Madam Maria gave me.

I'm not sure renting a one-bedroom apartment would be cheap considering the appearance of this apartment. At the very least, the monthly rental price is definitely 1000 - 2000 dollars per month. However, this is the last apartment that is closest to the supermarket. If tomorrow I get a call for an interview, at least I won't have to pay bus or train fare.

"E-excuse me?" I said going to the apartment reception center. A middle-aged man wearing glasses looked at me and smiled broadly.

"Yes, can I help you, Miss?"

"Are there any empty apartments?"

"For one bedroom?"

"Ah yes, one bedroom."

"Okay, I'll take a look. Please wait a moment!"

"Okay!"

"Sorry, Miss. Currently the one bedrooms are full. There is only one three bedroom apartment left on the fifth floor."

"T-three bedrooms? How much is the rent?"

"The monthly rental fee is 6000 dollars complete with furniture. Can be occupied immediately!"

"So expensive? For one room, how much is it usually?"

"One room starts at 1500 dollars per month. There is one room that will be empty in three months."

"Three months? Why did I wait that long? Ok, excuse me?"

I walked limply towards the entrance. It felt like my body was tired from visiting different places in three days. If I look for another apartment nearby, maybe there's something cheaper?

"Sorry, currently all rooms are full!"

"When is there a room free?"

"Next month there will be a room with two bedrooms."

"Next month? But I need it now!"

"There are no vacancies now, sorry Miss."
