Chapter 2
He came closer to me, his touch soft as he caressed my cheek. At that moment, I wished I could vanish from where I stood, caught in his gaze. His eyes, so angelic, his smile so sweet, left me stunned. We locked eyes for what felt like an eternity.
"You're my mate," he said, a grin on his face.
His words hit me like a ton of bricks, memories of the brutal murder of my parents flooding back. I took a step back, turning away from him. The eyes of everyone around us seemed to bore into me, as the nightmares of the past replayed in my mind.
"Your name?" he asked.
I saw the demon behind his eyes, the one who had taken everything from me. He had become an immortal, an augmented Alpha, after destroying my family. Fueled by anger, pain, and resentment, I couldn't help but reject him then and there.
"I, Amelia Roofer, reject you as my mate," I declared, my voice firm.
Everyone gasped at my words, their hushed whispers filling the air. Norman's eyes widened in shock as I confronted their Alpha. Damien's grip on my arms tightened, his expression stern. Despite the fear creeping in, I refused to show it.
"Are you planning to harm me?" I challenged.
"You can't humiliate me like this in front of my pack!" He retorted firmly.
"I already did, Alpha. And I'm just an Omega, how can you claim I'm your mate?" I countered boldly.
"You're an Omega, so you have no right to refuse me!" he declared firmly.
"You're the one who brought this upon yourself, Alpha. You, the leader of the pack, choosing to be the Omega's mate?" I pointed out, leaving him speechless as he struggled to regain composure.
"Who sent you here?" He demanded, his brow furrowed.
"I apologize, Alpha. I brought her here because she expressed interest in joining our pack. She shared her story of being an orphan, and I couldn't help but feel sorry for her." Norman apologized.
He swiftly exited, leaving us in the center. Norman and I exchanged glances, and for some reason, I felt a pang of guilt.
Norman inquired why I turned down an Alpha from our pack. I clarified that I wasn't prepared to be an Alpha's Luna. I was simply an omega, and I even shed tears in front of him to make my point.
"Was I wrong?" I questioned, tears streaming down my face.
"Stop crying, you need to rest. I understand that you were taken aback by the situation, but I'm sure the Alpha will comprehend your decision," he reassured me with a grin.
I smirked, satisfied that I had successfully convinced him with my act.
"Let me handle this. And don't worry, Alpha Damien is quite compassionate," he assured me.
"Compassionate?" my mind scoffed.
No amount of sweet words can alter the truth. I firmly believe that beneath Alpha Damien's angelic façade lies a dark side. He cannot escape the sins he committed against my family. He will pay for the brutal murder of my parents.
As I stepped into the cramped room, Norman bid me farewell. Left alone, I settled onto the small bed, my eyes welling up with tears as memories flooded my mind. Exhaustion from the long journey here weighed heavily on me, and before I knew it, sleep overtook me.
The following morning, I awoke with the first rays of sunlight and sprang to my feet. Just as I began organizing my belongings, a knock echoed through the room. Hastily, I rushed to open the door.
A cheerful woman stood before me, bearing a tray of food. She entered the room and placed the meal on the table, to which I expressed my gratitude. However, my attention quickly shifted as I caught sight of Alpha Damien approaching me with a smile.
His sweet smile irked me to no end. How dare he find happiness when he didn't deserve it? I vowed to myself that I would make sure his life crumbled before him.
"Good morning, Amelia," he greeted.
"Good morning to you as well, Alpha," I responded with a smile.
"Why are you here?" I inquired curiously.
"Even though you rejected me as your mate, I am still willing to wait until you are ready to be my Luna," he replied, his smile unwavering.
"I apologize for my insensitivity. I simply couldn't fathom how an omega like you could reject me despite my position on the Throne," he expressed remorsefully.
"I can empathize with your experiences," he added.
Suddenly, his words ignited a fire within me. Why does he appear so genuine and kind when he speaks?
"You're a master at pretending!" I exclaimed to myself, emphasizing my frustration.
Despite his actions, I made a vow to make him experience all the pain and suffering I endured. He must suffer before his demise. This man's charming smile may be deceiving, but he still can't manipulate my thoughts.
"Life has not been easy for me. Losing a family is not easy, so I will not stop until they are given justice!" I said firmly.
"Just let me know if there's anything I can do to help, Amelia. I have a duty as your mate to support and care for you," he responded with a grin.
“You're not my mate. Remember that I rejected you, Alpha,” I pointed out.
“I'll do whatever it takes, and I'll be patient until you change your mind,” he insisted.
The words he left me with were simply endearing.
I moved closer to him, teasingly bringing my lips near his.
"Let's see if you can change my mind," I whispered seductively, then playfully retreated. I flashed a sweet smile at him and walked into the room.
He gazed at me, his expression intense, making me feel jittery. There was only a small gap between us, and I couldn't decipher my emotions at that moment. It was as if my eyes had a mind of their own, slowly closing as I anticipated his kiss.
