Chapter 8
"Norman?" I uttered in disbelief.
Norman's expression turned grave as he warned, "This place is not safe. We should head back."
A few moments later, We finally made it to the Castle after a long journey. The guards were surprised to see us, but Norman guided me through the corridors to my room.
The wolves in the castle seemed skeptical of our presence, but I brushed it off as we reached my room. Norman gently helped me onto the bed.
"I'll be right back with a first aid kit for your wound," he assured me before heading out.
Reflecting on my reckless actions, I was grateful that Norman was there to help me.
A little later, Norman came back to my room carrying a box of first aid supplies. With a gentle gaze, he uncovered my wound and carefully tended to it, cleaning it thoroughly before applying a bandage.
"Don't worry, Amelia. This will heal in no time. Just make sure to get some rest," he reassured me in a soothing tone.
I couldn't help but smile gratefully at him, expressing my thanks for his kindness.
"I'm doing well, Norman. I think it's best if I take a break," I said, flashing him a smile.
"Sure thing, just give me a shout if you need assistance. The guards are stationed outside, so they can be of help," he replied.
"I'm perfectly fine, so you can leave me here," I asserted confidently.
"Alright then, have a good night!" he exclaimed cheerfully as he made his way out.
As I pondered over the kindness he had shown me, I couldn't help but hold my breath in awe.
Little did I know, exhaustion had taken over me, and I had drifted off to sleep after our long run.
As the sun rose, I reluctantly opened my eyes and immediately rose from my bed. The soreness from last night's brawl with the rogues still lingered in my body. Glancing out the window, I couldn't help but shake my head in disbelief as I saw the guards slumbering away. It was clear that the castle's security was compromised due to their negligence.
Turning my attention to the mirror, I studied my reflection. I tidied up my hair and neatly tied it back. After freshening up in the bathroom, I changed into a new set of clothes and examined myself once more in the mirror.
Just as I was about to continue with my day, a knock on the door interrupted my thoughts. Opening it, I was greeted by a maid who immediately cast her eyes upon my bandaged wound before speaking.
"Alpha Damien is summoning you," she said with a serious tone.
Curiosity piqued, I inquired, "Why?"
"I'm not sure, but he wants you to come with me," she replied, her expression unreadable.
As we made our way down the corridor towards Alpha Damien's place, I couldn't help but notice Norman entering the room as well. Our eyes locked in surprise as I called out his name.
Norman simply glanced at me before turning his attention to Alpha Damien. The Alpha slowly turned around, revealing his strikingly handsome face. His gaze shifted from my injured arm to Norman and back to me, his expression serious.
Anxious anticipation filled the room as we waited for Alpha Damien to speak. When he finally addressed us, Norman and I exchanged a quick glance, unsure of what was to come.
Norman and I exchanged glances before he stepped forward to address Alpha Damien with a respectful bow. He took the initiative to clarify the situation.
"Allow me to provide an explanation, Alpha," he stated composedly.
"Very well, Norman. Please proceed with your explanation," Alpha responded with a serious tone, his gaze still fixed on my injuries.
As Norman began to speak, Alpha Damien gently took hold of my hand, his intense gaze shifting between me and Norman.
As I strolled through the dense forest, the sound of thunderous footsteps and the rustling of leaves caught my attention.
Norman recounted, "I witnessed her valiantly battling the vampires all by herself, so I immediately rushed to her aid."
"Why did you return to that place, Amelia?!" he questioned firmly.
"What gives you the right to stop me from going back there?! I yearn for vengeance against them!" I responded with unwavering bravery.
"Seeking revenge alone? You do realize that you nearly lost your life in their clutches, don't you?!" he exclaimed loudly.
"Even if it costs me my life, that's my choice. You no longer care, Alpha!" I insisted.
"Relax, Amelia. I'm only concerned for your safety because as your mate, it's my duty to keep you safe," he said earnestly.
"You're the only one getting worked up. I'm perfectly fine and still standing, so there's no need to overreact!" I retorted, giving him a disapproving look.
I heard him let out a sigh, and I couldn't help but smile.
It's amusing to see how I can give him a headache, even though he's an Alpha.
"I apologize, Amelia. But next time, please inform me of your whereabouts so I can accompany you. I just want to ensure nothing bad happens to you. There are many potential threats lurking around, and we never know when we might encounter them in the forest. Please bid me farewell next time," he pleaded calmly.
"Alright, Alpha. Norman had nothing to do with this. In fact, you should thank him for assisting me," I replied.
The Alpha nodded, expressing his gratitude towards Norman. He also apologized for his earlier reaction.
"Thank you for protecting Amelia, Norman," he said, a smile gracing his face.
"You're welcome, Alpha," Norman replied with a smile.
"As your loyal right hand, it is my duty to protect not only you and your future Luna, but the entire pack as well."
Alpha immediately called for the healer to tend to the wound on my hand. Norman stayed by my side throughout the entire process, ensuring that I was well taken care of. Once the healer finished treating my wound, they bid us farewell and left.
As soon as the healer departed, I glanced over at Norman and noticed that he had been watching me intently. I attempted to offer him a reassuring smile, but his expression remained serious. It was evident that he was deeply concerned and didn't want to let me out of his sight.
"Don't worry, I'm perfectly fine," I reassured him, trying to alleviate his worries.
Norman's grip tightened around my hand, his emotions evident in his voice.
"I can't bear the thought of losing you, Amelia," he confessed, his words filled with raw emotion.
