Chapter Eight

(Lucian's POV)

Her heart beat dangerously close to mine. "What are you doing?" I asked her.

She heaved a sigh. " I'm not sure that I can live here with these lions. I can't work here!" She exclaimed with wide eyes and I rolled my eyes at the way she was acting. It wasn't even that deep so I didn't understand the theatrics that she was pulling.

"Sadly, you don't have a choice. Tell me, what do you think is happening here?" I demanded.

She stared at me with pure fear in her gaze. " These are lions."

"Tamed lions. They don't bite. So get down." I retorted.

She stared at me like I had grown ten heads, well I wasn't bothered by that. I wanted to feed tonight and that was the only thing on my mind.

"Please, don't let me go down. I feel like they are looking into my soul, ready to tear me up and make sure that I don't have anything remaining like bones." She muttered.

"Stop it." I removed her hands from my shoulders and she almost fell. I reached out to steady her. She was making me talk, which was what I hated the most. How dare she cause me to keep repeating myself?

"Emma!" I called and my maid walked out of the room she was sitting before and walked up to me with a grim expression as her gaze fell on my new prey. " Take her to the room."

Emma nodded gently before nodding in the opposite direction. " Please follow me."

The girl followed her and I headed to my office. Upon my arrival, my phone rang and I rolled my eyes. Having an inkling about who would be calling already.

"Hello, Rufus. What can I do for you today?" I replied and he chuckled softly.

"Don't waste my time."

"How was the trip? I heard that you spent a lot of money tonight. So, what is the latest news from them?" He inquired.

"I've not found anything yet. I would contact you once I do."

"But it's getting too long. I don't know why you're wasting so much time, Mr. Lucian."

I kissed my teeth in annoyance. He had a fine degree in making sure that he got on my nerves. "There was nothing that was stopping you from going there and checking things out for yourself now is there?"

A light chuckle filtered in from the receiver and I was not even happy with everything he was saying. "So, it seems like someone has forgotten what happened earlier. You don't have a right to speak to me in this manner." He challenged me.

I raised a brow, Rufus was fond of displaying himself but he didn't know that I was not one to be messed with.

"Okay, good to hear that you're crying over the phone. Rufus, I'll contact you when I get something tangible."

Rufus sighed. "Our eyes are on you Mister. I'm not sure that you want your empire to crumble before your eyes."

"Oh? You can only try and that's not even a threat. So, tell me what else do you want, or is that all you called me for? That's such a shame though." I retorted.

He loved making sure that he came out on top but I've tried making him know that I wasn't in his level one bit.

"Actually, I have another deal for you, I don't know if you would be able to take it up."

I raised a brow, he was known for his massive cunningness and he probably thought that it would work with me. "Shoot, let's hear what you have to say to us, it's a surprise though." I replied.

He chuckled again. "You underrate me too much and I am always pissed."

"Tell that to people who care about that."

"Never mind, Mister Lucian, I'll pop by the office tomorrow if that's not a hassle."

"It is, tell me what it is on the phone and I'll know what to do with the information." I replied and hung up. I had better things to do than exchange words with that buffoon who was always rising to the occasion.

My phone rang again and I rolled my eyes. It was almost as though there was a sensor telling these people that I had returned. "Lucian speaking."

"Oh, I'm sorry to call you at this time sir. I was just about to send the files that Mr. Rufus sent earlier today and..." My office secretary said.

"Don't bother about them. I'm not coming to the office soon. Tell him to come when I request his presence. I already told him over the phone and I won't repeat myself."

She sighed and she didn't say anything.

"What else do you have for me today?"

"Uh... We have experienced a turnover and also profit margin. I think that there is..."

"Send me the details to my email." I cut her short and hung up. It was almost midnight and I was beginning to feel restless, itchy too. I needed food so I proceeded to my prey.

She should be clean by now.

When I approached her room I overheard her conversation with Emma. I took cover behind the pillar. They didn't bother to lock the door. She was wearing a nightgown. "Why am I here? Are you also a maid here? Why aren't you talking?" She fired on.

"These things are not spoken about here. You're going to do your job no matter what."

She was talkative and I almost regretted my decision. She was ready to ask how this house came into existence. She would have to be knocked out every time.

"Why aren't you going to give me an answer. Did we swear an oath to secrecy or what?" She continued.

"The master is here." Emma replied and stiffened a bit and I watched her dart a look towards the entrance but didn't see me.

"That's not true. I can't see anyone in the distance. Are you just trying to avoid me?" She replied.

"No, darling. She's right."
