Chapter 5

Phoebe's pov

"Why are you in so much of a hurry?" he asks, frustrated by my unbelievable behavior.

I pause smiling sheepishly, "I'm sorry I thought you were done talking," I say.

"Of course not," he tries to say calmly so that I don't flair up.

"I just gave you a job and there are procedures before you are fully a worker in the company, did you forget?" he cocks his brow at me.

"Oh my goodness, did I forget I'm the latest secretary in town? How did I forget?" I pinch myself.

"Oh I'm sorry I got carried away with some other stuff," I justify my stupidity.

He lets out a deep breath and hands me a card and an envelope. I take the card, look at it, it is a complimentary card and then open the envelope and I see some money inside.

I was stunned, speechless, and excited, he had just given me a high-paying job, and now this?

I opened my mouth to thank him but I didn't find the words. I just stood there, unable to speak, looking at me, he noticed how I felt and he pulled me in for a hug.

"Should I say I love him already?" I asked myself because no one has treated me this nicely in my life.

"Thank you," I manage to murmur.

"You deserve it beauty," he said to me as I pulled out.

I looked down blushing at the name Beauty, he sure has a way of making me feel good.

"Alright, I have to go," I say, taking steps back to pick up my bag. "Call me tomorrow, so I can tell you what to do next," he says.

"Got it," I say heading for the door.

I wave to him one last time and head downstairs, as I get into the hallway memories of last night wash through me.

I chuckled remembering how I was staggering, every memory from last night began to replay in my head and I found myself laughing like a child who got their first kiss.

While in my sweet thoughts and heard a sound, wherever I was I could detect that the sound I was hearing was that of stilettos, and with each step, it was echoing closer as though the person was approaching me.

I looked back immediately at the end of the hallway where I stood, then I noticed that a lady was standing at the door I just came out of, Ethan's room.

What? Is that the kind of man he is? I barely left there a few seconds ago and now he's called up another lady, what the hell does he want, if he wanted sex he would have told me. My mind flashes back to the night we had sex and how good he was.

If he was horny he should have told me I'll do something about it at least, on one hand I feel disrespected on the other hand I feel bad, was I not good enough? Did I do something wrong?

I tried to brush the feeling off but it wouldn't go, maybe I should go back to the room and pretend as though I forgot something so I could cause some chaos for him.

The lady standing at the door doesn't even look like she cares about who might be looking at her.

I quickly drop my bag at the corner, I take slow and quiet steps towards the lady who's busy on her phone I hear a click and the door opens the lady goes in and I run towards the door, as I approach the door the door was about locking again and I hold it with all my strength and the person behind the door realizes that someone is holding the door.

Ethan looks out and finds me holding the door, "Phoebe" Ethan called out shock evident in his voice as he spoke.

I don't say anything, I just stand erect, adjusting my gown, "Why are you here? I thought you'd already gone?" He asks.

"I forgot something, so I came to take it," I strained my words as I spoke, he found my lie strange and awkward, he was a bit hesitant to open the door but he knew If I didn't forget something I wouldn't be back, so he open the door and I stepped into the room.

I passed the lady who was standing confusion written all over her expression as she ogled at me, I took calculated steps as I catwalked swaying my hips to the toilet.

I got into the toilet and closed the door, I dropped my shoulders as I eased myself of the tension that was building inside, for a second I could swear I went mad and the other I was protecting what was mine.

That lady needs to know he has someone like me in his life. I looked around the toilet and the realization hit me that I didn't forget anything and my bag was in the hallway. How do I prove I truly forgot something?

I wanted to cry, but then I held myself from crying because it wasn't the solution to my problems. I needed to think of something fast.

I looked around the toilet and my eyes fell on one of his red boxers that was spread on the mirror hanger.

"If I take his boxers won't he notice?" I asked myself, still contemplating if I should take his boxers with me.

Massaging my temples and thinking of what to do I hear a knock that jolts me back into reality.

"Phoebe, are you alright?" I am sure as hell that was Ethan's voice what happened to him calling me Beauty? Because his mistress is around.

He has called me Phoebe a couple of times and I can't cope with it because it irks me because of how emotionless it sounds in his mouth.

I quickly take the red boxers, fold it in my palm, and hold the doorknob as I open it.

"Hey," I say nervousness evident in my voice, "I've gotten what I came for, bye," I say walking towards the door, I could feel both of them watching me as I leave the room.

"What a stunt I pulled back there," I said to myself as I found myself in the hallway, a smug look plastered on my face as I looked at the fancy glasses on the hallways.

That wasn't an easy one but at last, I came out alive. I wasn't expecting it to go well for one second. I don't know what got into me honestly.

I breathed out, picked up my bags, and ran downstairs before Ethan thought of finding me to ask a trailer load of questions. I got outside the hotel immediately. I saw a commercial car and I could tell it was the cab.

"Are you the Uber driver?" I asked, panting as a result of the exercise I just did.

"Are you Miss Pho…." The Uber driver was about to ask but then I realized he was the driver so I quickly rushed in.

Yes, he was shocked by my action but I honestly don't care, "Bull Street, blue apartment building by the right"

He takes time looking at the rearview mirror, probably analyzing the kind of customer he just got, "didn't you hear me?" I grit.

He lets out a deep breath and ignites the car.
