Chapter 5 This Voice Sounded Familiar
"It's best if what you said is true."
After a while, Donovan finally withdrew his gaze and turned his head to Paxton, who was standing next to him. "Any news from the police?"
Paxton's voice was heavy. "Not yet."
After speaking, he cautiously glanced at Donovan and worriedly said, "Could someone have kidnapped Finley?"
Finley was Mr. Wilder's sweetheart and held a prestigious position within the Wilder family. Over the years, she had attracted the attention of many people. She had also experienced almost being kidnapped.
Upon hearing this, Donovan's eyes darkened, and he said in a strict tone, "Allocate more manpower, expand the search range. We must find her today!"
"Yes!"
Mr. Wilder's anger was almost tangible. Paxton's mind shuddered, and he responded loudly.
Just as he was about to turn and leave, Donovan's phone rang.
At this moment, he was not in the mood to answer calls. Impatiently, he took out his phone and was about to hang up when he noticed it was an unknown number.
Thinking of what Paxton had said earlier, Donovan's temple throbbed, and he answered the call with a cold expression.
As soon as he connected, a soft female voice came through, "Hello."
Upon hearing this voice, Donovan narrowed his eyes, a hint of doubt flashing in them.
This voice. It was exactly the same as that woman!
The figure seen at the airport that afternoon flashed through Riley's mind.
"Hello? Is anyone there?" Riley asked, puzzled, after not receiving a response for a while.
Donovan slowly collected his thoughts and replied briefly, "Hmm."
Obviously, one syllable was not enough for Riley to make out anything.
Relieved to hear a response, Riley sighed, "Hello, here's the situation. I found a little girl and she gave me this number. You must be her father, right? Do you have time to come and pick her up?"
The woman's voice echoed clearly in Donovan's ear.
The more she spoke, the colder Donovan's gaze became.
As her voice finally subsided, a layer of frost had covered the depths of the man's eyes.
It was indeed her!
Even after so many years, he would never mistake this voice!
Riley!
She had finally come back!
Donovan gritted his teeth harshly and lowered his voice as he pressed for more information, "Where are you?"
Riley instinctively answered, "We're at Virtualicious Bistro. We're waiting here with her. Can you come directly to the restaurant to pick her up?"
"Alright, I'm on my way."
As soon as Donovan finished speaking, he hung up the phone and said to Paxton, "Prepare the car. We're going to Virtualicious Bistro."
Paxton didn't understand why Mr. Wilder suddenly had such a strong reaction, but he quickly complied.
Looking at the darkened screen of her phone, Riley felt an inexplicable sense of tension.
The man's voice just now seemed somewhat hoarse.
It had a strangely familiar feel to it.
However, Riley couldn't recall where she had heard it, so she gave up on thinking about it.
"Are you hungry?" Harper grew impatient after waiting outside for a long time. "I'm starving. Let's go in and eat. When the person arrives, we'll send the little girl out."
Riley smiled at her and said, "Okay, let's go in first."
After saying that, she crouched down again, looked into the little girl's eyes, and sought her opinion, "Are you hungry? Auntie can take you inside to eat something, okay? Your dad should be on his way, and when he arrives, Auntie can send you out. Is that alright?"
The little girl hesitated as she locked eyes with Riley for a few seconds, the light in her big eyes shimmering.
"If you don't want to, Auntie can stay here with you," Riley patiently reassured her.
Upon hearing this, Landon and Winston beside her chimed in unison, "We'll stay here with Mommy!"
Harper rubbed her forehead. "Am I the only one hungry here? Girl, we really aren't bad people. Who would take you to such a nice restaurant if we were bad? Aren't you hungry too? Don't try to be strong, come inside with Auntie, okay?"
For a moment, everyone's gaze fell on the little girl.
Landon and Winston were also hungry and couldn't help but look forward to the little sister.
The little girl bit her lip and took two steps towards Riley, reaching out to hold onto her sleeve and nodding at her.
Seeing this, Riley smiled and touched her head, holding the little girl's hand that was on her sleeve and stood up, leading her towards the direction of the restaurant.
Harper, leading Landon and Winston, followed behind. Seeing the little girl walking alongside their friend, she couldn't help but tease, "This little girl was on guard against us just now, and suddenly she's so intimate with you."
After saying that, she sighed, "In this world, good-looking people really can attract anyone, regardless of age or gender."
