Chapter 8 Not Over Her Yet
"Mommy, who exactly is this Donovan person? Why do we have to avoid him?" Landon Winston saw his mama in a dazed state and shook her hand, deliberately asking the question.
Riley slowly snapped out of it, patting their heads and smiling as if nothing was wrong. "He's not an important person, just someone who had a little disagreement with Mama in the past. Both of you, if you ever hear that name again, make sure to stay away, understood?"
The two children nodded obediently, "Yes, Mommy."
As soon as their mommy averted her gaze, the two children exchanged a glance, their eyes filled with curiosity.
What exactly happened between mommy and daddy before? It seemed like there was quite a big misunderstanding!
Riley nodded, still concerned about the situation with Harper, but the voices of the two children interrupted her thoughts.
"Mommy, we ran away so hastily earlier. If that person suspects anything and checks the surveillance, they could easily find us." Landon kindly reminded her.
Panic flashed through Riley's eyes. "Oh no, I forgot about that. What should we do?"
She had been too focused on running and had completely forgotten about the restaurant's surveillance. Donovan might already be on his way here with his men.
At the thought of this possibility, Riley even felt the urge to just take the two children and go straight home.
Seeing their mama in a panic, the two children couldn't help but giggle and turn their heads away. When the curve of their lips settled down, they turned back to comfort her.
"Mommy, don't worry, I'll handle it."
Saying that, Winston grabbed the laptop from the car and his little hands flew over the keyboard.
In no time, they accessed the surveillance system of the restaurant and deleted any footage related to them.
"All done!"
After deleting the surveillance, Winston looked up, eyes shining brightly, seeking praise from mama.
Riley let out a long sigh of relief and hugged the two children. "Thank goodness for you two, you solved a big problem!"
The two children knew she was still nervous, so they obediently let her hold them for a while.
After Mommy finally released them, Landon asked, "Mommy, do we leave now or wait for the god-mother?"
Riley had calmed down and looked at the deserted entrance of the parking lot. "Let's wait a little longer."
The two children nodded obediently.
Meanwhile, in a private room in the restaurant.
Donovan, unable to elicit any useful information from the woman in front of him, restrained his rising anger and indifferently said, "I apologize for my presumptuousness earlier. Thank you for helping me find my daughter. We have nothing else to do, so we'll leave and not disturb you and your friends' dinner."
After finishing his words, he turned his head to the little girl by the table. "Finley, come here."
Reluctantly, the little girl pouted and politely bowed to Harper before walking away from her father.
Donovan raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. He led his people to follow behind the little girl.
They left the restaurant, and Donovan reached out to pick up the girl and put her in the car. However, she defiantly dodged his touch.
Seeing this, Paxton quickly stepped forward and lifted Finley onto the car.
The car started slowly.
Donovan sat in the back seat and reached out with his long arm to hold his daughter on his lap.
With nowhere to escape, the little girl could only be held by him like a doll. She lowered her head in a stubborn, angry manner, refusing to look at him.
"Tell Daddy, besides that aunt earlier, was there another aunt with you?" Donovan asked gently.
The little girl glanced at him, thinking about the beautiful aunt who had left because of him, making her angrier.
Seeing that she was pouting, Donovan playfully pinched her small face. "You ran away from home, yet Daddy didn't even scold you. Why are you mad? Do you know how worried Daddy was? Tell Daddy, why did you run away from home?"
The little girl evaded his big hand and forcefully turned her head away, ignoring him.
She looked visibly furious.
Donovan helplessly tugged at his lip, unable to do anything with this little treasure. "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, Daddy won't force you, but promise Daddy, no running away from home next time!"
After finishing his words, he looked up at Paxton sitting in front and calmly instructed, "Go and check the surveillance at that restaurant."
It seemed like he still hadn't given up!
Paxton sighed and reluctantly obeyed, "Alright, Mr. Wilder!"
