Chapter 2 Marry Me

Evelyn had to be very cautious while dealing with a person like him.

Evelyn got straight to the point. "I know your company also participated in this quarter's perfume competition tonight. I have a newly developed fragrance in my hands and I hope to join the Seraphian Group's team."

"The Seraphian Group has already selected the entries," Samuel said calmly.

She was well aware of this fact. "But the competition allows multiple entries. I simply wish to submit an additional one, not replace—"

He interrupted her, asking bluntly, "Why should I trust you?"

Evelyn quickly opened her bag and took out a stack of documents. "These are the data and formula for my development of First Love. This represent my sincerity. As for the quality...

"Mr. Whitman, three years ago, you extended an invitation to me. I believe you also recognized my abilities. And as a matter of fact, I have brought samples today."

"Samples?"

His facial expression finally changed, a subtle twitch at the corner of his eyebrows signaling his newfound interest.

Evelyn nodded, extending her hand towards him. As she moved, a light, sweet fragrance drifted towards him, pleasant but not overwhelming.

Samuel quietly regarded the hand before him, noting its beauty. The sweet aroma stirred excitement within him.

"I am confident that First Love will at least make it to the top three, which is undoubtedly good news for the Seraphian Group," she said.

After speaking, Evelyn naturally withdrew her hand, but she didn't expect him to hold onto it.

Samuel held her wrist firmly. She couldn't break free, but she didn't feel uncomfortable or in pain.

"Do you think the Seraphian Group cares about something like this?"

"Mr. Whitman, this is just a token of our meeting. If you feel it's not enough, the copyrights for the perfumes I will develop in the next two years will belong to the Seraphian Group. How about that?"

After careful consideration, she realized Samuel might not readily agree, but there remained room for negotiation. With time ticking away, Evelyn couldn't find a more suitable partner than Samuel.

"Indeed, it's not enough."

He let go of her hand, leaving behind a faint fragrance on his fingertips.

Samuel lowered his gaze, hiding the light in his eyes. "Unless... you add yourself to the deal."

"Me?" Evelyn didn't understand.

"Did you bring everything I asked you to bring?" he suddenly asked.

"Yes, I did."

Although Evelyn didn't understand what he was going to do, she still brought all her identification documents before leaving.

"Marry me, and I'll help you solve your troubles."

At this moment, Evelyn was astounded.

'What did he say? Marriage? With him?'

It was only now that Evelyn realized the car was parked across from City Hall. Samuel had asked her to meet him there and to bring her identification documents. Did he truly want to marry her?

"If you don't want to, you can leave."

Samuel casually opened the car door, signaling her to make a quick decision.

Afraid of being kicked out of the car, she held onto the door handle and said hurriedly, "I didn't say I don't want to."

"Then that means you're willing." Samuel smiled slightly and got up. "Let's go. I have a meeting at 10:30."

Evelyn felt somewhat helpless.

Samuel was even in a hurry.

Her hand gripped the car door tightly, her eyes fixed on the man in front of her, her breath slightly hurried. "May I ask why?"

Why her? Why so suddenly?

"Weren't we discussing business? You need someone to help punish Liavian Perfumes. I need a wife. I think it's fair," he said in a relaxed tone, as if he found this to be a very natural thing. It was the playful glint in his eyes that stirred a sense of déjà vu in Evelyn, though she couldn't recall the source.

If Evelyn married Samuel, there would be no future for her and Liam. Nevertheless, given Samuel's status and position, regardless of his motives, she wouldn't be at a disadvantage.

Evelyn's gaze became determined. "Deal!"

All she wanted was revenge.

They got married quickly.

After leaving City Hall, Samuel carefully put away the documents, put on sunglasses, and hid the smile in his eyes.

Evelyn ran after him, gasping for breath. "Mr. Whitman, about the collaboration..."

Samuel suddenly stopped in his tracks, turning his head.

Even though she couldn't see his eyes behind the sunglasses, she could still feel his icy gaze. Unconsciously, she loosened her grip on his clothes.

"From today on, you should get used to your new identity, Mrs. Whitman."

Samuel put his arm around her waist, his breath close to her.

Evelyn had a moment of distraction.

"Give the perfume information and samples to the assistant, Kyle Collins. He will take care of it."

Letting go of her hand, Samuel got back into the car. Evelyn followed closely behind him but didn't get in the car.

"Mrs. Whitman, any other questions?"

As Samuel turned his head to look at her, his phone buzzed in his hand, awaiting his response.

"D-Darling... can we keep our marriage a secret for now?" Her cheeks turned red. But she was afraid of wasting his time, so she quickly continued, "I have some personal matters to attend to, but I'll handle them quickly."

Behind the sunglasses, she couldn't see Samuel's gaze clearly, nor could she decipher his emotions from his expression.

"Meet me at the Seraphian Group before 5:00 p.m. this afternoon."

After he finished speaking, he answered the phone and put it to his ear. "It's me."

Evelyn nodded, closed the car door for him, and watched the car drive away, but she couldn't relax. She still had things to take care of.

She first grabbed a bite to eat, then picked up a fresh set of clothes, and finally drove calmly to Liavian Perfumes. In the meantime, Liam called her dozens of times, but she didn't answer.

As soon as Evelyn's car was parked, Liam's secretary, Ross Davis, came up looking anxious. "Ms. Taylor, you finally came. Mr. Scott is looking for you like crazy."

Evelyn had dedicated three years of hard work to Liam's company, albeit in the role of a technician.

Evelyn walked steadily towards the company, asking, "What's going on?"

"I'm not sure, but he's really upset." Ross shook his head.

In truth, aside from Liam and Vivian, Evelyn's most trusted aides, no one else was aware that she was the mastermind behind the perfumes responsible for Liavian Perfumes' soaring sales.

Vivian was hailed as the company's savior, the cornerstone of Liavian Perfumes.

Evelyn used to not care about these empty titles, and now she cared even less.

Evelyn approached the door to the CEO's office and could already hear Liam roaring. "You're with her every day, and you tell me you don't know where she went? What's your attitude, Laura? Don't think you can act so arrogant just because you have Evelyn protecting you. Believe me, I'll fire you tomorrow!"

Immediately after, there was a deafening sound of a phone being hung up. Evelyn frowned.

Unable to find Evelyn, Liam directed his anger towards Evelyn's assistant, Laura Baker.

Evelyn reached out and knocked on the door, then pushed it open. Ross, being smart, didn't enter and closed the door from the outside.

A cup was thrown directly in front of her feet, and the shattered glass even brushed against her face.

Liam angrily said, "Where were you the whole morning!"
