THE BEGINNING OF KAYA’s WOES.
Chapter 2
Alpha SILAS’s POV.
I paced the length of my war room, my advisor, Sage following close behind. “This is a disaster.” Sage said.
“We have lost too many pack members, and I will not let this war continue. I need a plan to end this, and I need it now.” I said, my voice low and angry.
Sage nodded, his expression grim. “I understand, Alpha. And I think I have a solution to this problem.”
I stopped pacing and turned to face Sage, a spark of hope in my eyes.
“What is it?” I asked.
“We need to focus on the enemy’s weaknesses. We need to study their pattens and find a way to exploit them. I planted some of our best spies in their territory and I think I have a pattern, a pattern which I believe we can use to our advantage.” Sage said.
I thought for a moment, considering Sage’s words.
“I am listening.” I said.
Sage pulled out a map and spread it out on the table. “Here. This is where the enemy soldiers have been staging their attacks. I think if we strike here, we can disrupt their supply lines and cut the off from their source of supplies. By doing this, we will weaken them and force them to change strategy. While the enemy tries to think of a new strategy, they become vulnerable and that’s when we strike.” Sage said.
I stared at the map, considering the plan. It was risky but it just might work.
“If we do this, we could turn the tide of the war. But is also gamble. We could lose everything if the enemy comes up with a counter attack and we could lose everything if it does not work.” Sage said.
“I know Sage, but i think it is a risk we have to take,” I said, staring the map for a moment longer than I looked up at Sage. “I trust your judgment, let’s do it.”
Sage nodded and a gloved of relief passed over his face.” Thank you alpha. I will not let you down,” he said. “Now we need to plan and prepare our forces. We do not have much time and our soldiers are dying.”
Just as we were about to lay out the details of our plan, there was a knock at the door.
I looked up and saw my son, Lucian. “Your pardon Alpha. I have news that can not wait.” I waved him in, and Lucian stepped into the room.
“What is it?” I asked, a note of concern in my voice.
Lucian took a deep breath and spoke. “I am afraid that I have bad news, Alpha. The wife of Marcus, one of our trusted warriors just died in battle.”
“What about Marcus?” I asked, already dreading the answer.
“Her mate, Marcus’s sufferer the same fate as her. Their only surviving daughter, Kaya is now alone in their home, and I was good she is in a great deal of grief.” Lucian said.
I felt a wave of sadness wash over me. Marcus and his wife had been loyal and brace, and their loss would be felt deeply by the pack.
“What of Kaya?” I asked, my voice grace. “What would we do for Kaya?”
Lucian sighed.” I think it would be best if she were allowed to keep her home, and to live there under the pack’s protection. She is talented and well versed in magic and potions. And we could use her skills in the pack. I also head she is a kind and gentle soul. “
I considered Lucain’s words. I knew he was right, but I also knew that giving Kaya her home would be an issue, a political minefield.
Still, I trusted Lucain’s judgement. “Alright then, do what you deem fit.” I said and watched as Lucain’s shoulders relaxed.
“Thank you, Alpha,” Lucain said and turned to leave, and soon I was all alone with Sage.
“Shall we continue from where we stopped?” Sage asked.
“Yes sure, apologies for the interruption.” I said and we went back to work.
But the door to the room burst open and My Luna, Freya strode in.
“Luna... is everything all right? Why is your expression grim?” I asked, my voice laced with concern.
“Everything is far from all right. I just met Lucian and he told me that you are considering allowing Kaya to her home.” Freya said, her tone defiant.
I knew Lucian must have been forced into telling her truth, Freya was beautiful and fierce. With a streak of stubbornness that could make even the strongest men shake in their boots. I knew my Luna and my son very well.
“Yes... I gave my permission. Any problem?” I asked, my time causal.
“Yes, there is a problem. I am against that decision, and I demand that the home be given to me. I have always liked that home, but Marcus and his wife refused to give it to me. Now that they are out of my way, I want that house!” Freya said, her voice barely hiding her anger.
“And why do you want that house?” I asked in disbelief.
“I want to keep my finest meats there. And also, other important things should be kept there.” She said, not minding the looks of disbeliefs on my face.
“And if I refuse to give you the house? “I asked, straightening my back.
“Then I will be sad, and I will also be upset with you.” Freya said, her expressions turning into a sad one.
“Freya.. you do know Kaya just lost her parents and that house is the only thing she has, the only thing she has in memory of them. Why are you hell bent on taking that house? Do not worry I will get you a bigger and better house.” I said, hoping she changes her mind.
“I want only that house, no more no less!” Freya said and stormed out of the house.
I knew life would be difficult for Kaya if I took the house, but I also knew Freya would do worse if I refused her.
