Chapter 7 - Life-changing opportunity
Giselle sighed heavily, the weight of the situation pressing down on her shoulders like a heavy burden. She turned to Shane, her expression a mix of determination and reluctance.
"I need to go home first, Shane," she said, her voice tinged with urgency. "I need to submit my report to the office and, of course, tell my family and work that I'm going to get married."
Shane nodded in understanding, his gaze softening with empathy. "Of course, Giselle. Take all the time you need. I'll arrange for transportation to take you wherever you need to go."
As Giselle prepared to leave, Shane's voice stopped her in her tracks. "But Giselle," he began, his tone gentle yet firm, "you need to understand that once we're married, you'll need to resign from your job."
Giselle's eyes widened in shock at Shane's words, her heart sinking at the realization of what he was asking of her. Being a reporter had been her lifelong dream, the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. She had studied tirelessly to graduate, worked tirelessly to land a job at the TV station she loved, and poured her heart and soul into every story she covered.
Resigning from her job would mean giving up everything she had worked so hard for, everything she had ever wanted. It was a prospect that filled her with a sense of despair and uncertainty.
"But Shane," she protested, her voice trembling with emotion, "being a reporter is who I am. It's what I've always wanted to do. I can't just give that up."
Shane's gaze softened as he reached out to gently cup Giselle's cheek, his touch warm and reassuring. "I understand, Giselle," he said softly, his voice filled with empathy. "But as my wife and Luna of the pack, your place is by my side. I can provide for you and your family. You won't have to worry about anything."
Giselle's heart ached at Shane's words, torn between her love for her job and her desire to be with him. She knew that he was right, that her place was with him, but the thought of giving up her career filled her with a sense of grief and loss.
"I love my job, Shane," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "It's everything to me. I don't know if I can give that up."
Shane's gaze held hers, his expression filled with understanding and compassion. "I know, Giselle," he said softly. "But sometimes in life, we have to make sacrifices for the ones we love. And if being with me means giving up your career, then I hope you'll find it in your heart to make that sacrifice."
Giselle felt tears welling up in her eyes at Shane's words, the weight of the decision bearing down on her like a heavy burden. She knew that whatever choice she made, it would change the course of her life forever.
"I need some time to think," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I need to weigh my options and consider what's best for both of us."
Shane nodded in understanding, his gaze filled with unwavering support. "Take all the time you need, Giselle," he said softly. "I'll be here waiting for you, no matter what you decide."
Giselle nodded hesitantly, her mind swirling with conflicting emotions. Shane's request weighed heavily on her heart, and she struggled to come to terms with the enormity of the decision before her. She knew that whatever choice she made would have far-reaching consequences, not only for herself but for those she cared about.
Shane's expression softened, a tinge of sadness flickering in his eyes as he regarded her. "I hope you won't back out of your decision to marry me, Giselle," he said softly, his voice tinged with vulnerability. "I'll give you three days to go home and resign from your work. After that, I'll ask your parents for their blessing to marry you."
Giselle felt a lump form in her throat at Shane's words, the weight of his expectations bearing down on her like a heavy burden. She knew that she couldn't delay the inevitable, that she would have to make a decision sooner rather than later.
"Thank you, Shane," she said quietly, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "I appreciate your understanding and patience. I'll do my best to come to a decision within the next three days."
Shane nodded in acknowledgment, his expression filled with a mixture of hope and trepidation. "Take all the time you need, Giselle," he said softly. "I'll be here waiting for you, no matter what you decide."
With a heavy heart, Giselle turned to leave, the weight of Shane's expectations lingering in the air like an unspoken promise. She knew that the next three days would be filled with difficult choices and soul-searching, but she was determined to face them head-on, whatever the outcome.
As she made her way home, Giselle's mind raced with thoughts of the future. She knew that resigning from her job would be a difficult decision, one that would change the course of her life forever. But she also knew that her feelings for Shane ran deep, that she couldn't ignore the connection they shared.
Arriving home, Giselle found herself greeted by the warmth and familiarity of her family. She knew that she would have to tell them about Shane's proposal, about the choice she was facing. It wouldn't be easy, but she knew that she couldn't keep them in the dark any longer.
Gathering her courage, Giselle sat down with her parents and siblings, her heart pounding in her chest as she prepared to share the news. She told them about Shane, about his proposal, and about the difficult decision she was facing.
Giselle gathered her family in the living room, her heart pounding with nervous anticipation. She took a deep breath, her hands trembling slightly as she prepared to share her news.
"Everyone," she began, her voice steady despite the butterflies in her stomach, "I have an announcement to make."
Her parents and siblings turned to her, curiosity shining in their eyes. They could sense the gravity of her words, their expressions filled with a mixture of anticipation and concern.
Giselle took another deep breath, summoning the courage to continue. "I've been offered a life-changing opportunity," she said.
