Chapter 5: Her Day

Lexy

I was woken up from my sleep with a weird sensation in my body. It was a strange warm feeling. I sat up and looked at the time. It was only 5 in the morning. That’s when I realized it was my birthday. I’m not crazy about my birthday since I never get to celebrate it. The relationship with my mom is complicated and I don’t know who my father is.

I decided to get up and get dressed in my black leggings with a black sport bra and a red tank top over it. I walk quietly out of the house, put my headphones in and begin my run. While on my run I felt someone trying to get my attention. I stop and take my headphones off. As soon as I take them off, I hear a beautiful yet powerful voice in my head. ‘Hello girly’. I can’t believe I forgot about my wolf. ‘Hey’ I respond shyly. ‘My name is Leila. And don’t feel bad. I understand. I’m not upset in any kind of way’ she responded melancholically. I started tearing up. ‘I’m really sorry. And I’m happy to hear you Leila’.

Leila told me to continue with my run while we chatted up. That’s when she started telling me the process of our changing. She told me to place my clothes under a huge tree I was approaching. ‘Just take deep breaths and don’t fight it’ Leila told me. I did as she said. It was painful but liberating. It took me a full minute to transform. I thought it was weird that I got through it so fast. ‘You’re stronger than you think. We are stronger’ Leila howled.

‘Wow’ is all I could say. Leila giggled. She began to run, and I just sat back and enjoyed the freedom. I felt comfort in the area Leila chose to run around. She was purring as she ran. I only noticed her paws. And the color was beautiful. They were a bright red. But that’s all I could see of her. We started to see the sun rise and I transformed back. I got dressed and ran back home. When I walked through the door my mom was in the kitchen making coffee.

“Morning Lexy. How was your run?” she asked. “It was fine. Just a run” I respond while getting some orange juice from the fridge. “I know is your birthday and your wolf comes out today. How did it go? Anything happen?” This is weird. “What’s with the 20 questions?” I snapped at her. “Watch yourself young lady! I’m still your mother.” “Everything was fine. Nothing happened. Just a run.” I responded with annoyance.

“I don’t want to fight with you Lexy. I just want to say happy birthday and here.” She extended her hand to me. It was a little box wrapped in wrapping paper and a bow. I opened my mouth wide. “What is it?” I asked her with a shocked face. “If you can’t tell is a gift. Just open it.” she responded enthusiastic. I opened the gift, and it was a key. “Go to the garage” “No way mom!?” I said as I ran to the garage. When I opened the door, I couldn’t believe it. It was a Yamaha R6 in red and black.

I jumped in my moms’ arms and gave her a massive hug. “How? When? Is this real?” is all I could say with the biggest smile on my face. “Don’t worry about it. But please be careful. And use the helmet. “My mom really knew how to surprise me and throw me off. “Wait… You said helmet.” “On the bike” she responded. I went to check it out and the helmet matches the bike. And is an expensive helmet with neck protection and the good visor. I ran and hugged her again. “Thank you, mom. It’s amazing. I love you.” I said to her and then gave her a kiss on the cheek.

I texted CJ to let him know that I would be taking myself to the party. I just wanted to spend today doing me. And I wanted to put a little distance from him.

I know I don’t trust much and that includes my mom but so far, I feel moving here might have been the best for us. I just hope it lasts.
