Ella

"You sent for me Sir." I walked into his office.

"Have a seat." I sat down on an empty seat close to me.

Mr Maxwell finally looked up from his files and paperwork and smiled at me.

"How are you doing today, Miss Ella Roberts? I am sorry I had to leave your apartment hurriedly yesterday morning."

I smiled to myself. "I am doing well Sir and don't worry about that, it's all good now."

"No, you know what I mean Ella, how are you really doing today? "

"What do you mean Sir? I think I am lost."

"If you want to play obviously, then have it your way. I want you on a date with me. Let's make this official."

I shifted from my seat. "Ermm Sir, make what official?"

"I don't know myself, whatever we have and share."

"I don't think I want to go out with my boss, it would set off my work life...."

"Shhh." Mr Maxwell stood up and walked up to me.

"I can be your boss and more girl, and you should not be saying no to your boss." He flipped his fingers down and around my hair. I could feel my body stiffening to his touch.

"I have an idea. Let's have lunch together. I will pick you up by noon."

"But Mr. Maxwell...I do not want anyone to see us together please."

"And that's fine by me. We'll arrive at Goldenhall restaurant and bar differently but at the same time. See you by 12."

He said and dismissed me.

I stood up to leave.

"What is wrong with the rich and being dismissive, like I don't have a say in what I choose to do with my time or what?" I thought to myself, a little angry.

"Well, at least he talked to me."

"Ohhh my...." Screamed Jill immediately. I got to our desk.

"What?"

"What do you mean? Why did Mr Handsome call you to his office?"

"For work only reasons, Jill."

"I do not believe that. That meeting was way too suspicious to be work-related only."

I gave Jill a side-eye.

"It's just your imagination, Jill. The only thing that can ever happen between me and my boss is work-related."

"Okay. I have to agree with you even though it is really hard to, right Jackie?"

"Yes, of course, Jill. It's not like we have a choice."

Jill and Jackie then went back to their work.

I heaved a sign of relief. They can both just be a pain in the ass.

Immediately it was 12 pm, and I sneaked away from the office. I did not want anyone to find me, most especially my desk mates Jill and Jackie.

I went straight out of the office and took a cab to the Golden Hall restaurant and bar. It was close to the office anyway.

When I got into the building, I met Mr Maxwell already seated.

"What the actual f**k!"

"Mr Maxwell, I was not expecting to meet you here already seated."

"I said 12 pm right?"

"Yeah you did, but...."

He stood up and pulled a seat for me.

"Seat princess."

"I blushed." Mr Maxwell was undeniably romantic.

"This place is so beautiful."

"Yes, it is. Befitting of royalty. That's why I brought us here."

I stared at my boss in wonder.

"What more do I need to know about this man, I thought to myself."

"You look stressed," he said.

"I am actually. I easily get stressed."

"I'm sorry about that."

"You don't have to, sir."

"You can cut the Sir off here, you can call me Max."

Just then a waiter walked in and took our orders. I ordered fried rice. The fried rice was what I always ordered whenever I was on a date and did not know what to order.

"Miss Ella. I won't waste our time and I would go straight to the point."

Another waiter walked in with an expensive wine. She screwed it open herself on my boss's command.

He poured the wine into our glass cups and continued speaking.

"I want you Ella to be my wife...."

I almost choked on the wine.

"I do not understand, sir," I muttered.

"Then I would say it again. I want you, Ella Roberts, to be my wife. I have just taken up a new responsibility and I need you by my side to work with me."

I was so dumb-struck.

"What do you mean sir? I'm sorry, but with all due respect, we had barely talked to each other before now. Saturday night happened out of nowhere. It was beautiful and fun. I agree, but it's still not enough reason for you to propose to me."

I was breathless at that point.

"Saturday night is reason enough for me to propose and that's what I'm doing now," Maxwell said without emotion.

"It made me realize I needed you by my side."

"You are proposing to me, sir? All because of a one-night stand?"

"Yes Ella, all because of a one-night stand. Be my wife, my dearest Ella."

He took out a ring and showed it to me.

"It's so beautiful."

"Just as beautiful as you, dearest, and it is all yours. You can have it."

Tears rolled my eyes as Mr Maxwell slid the ring into my fingers.

"It's so beautiful," I muttered.

"So what next?" I asked him.

"A lot more can happen after this." He said, giving me a knowing smile.

"This is too much news to handle, Mr Maxwell. I am having a slight headache right now."

"Then you can take the rest of the day off. You're stressed after all."

"But...my colleagues, they would be worried."

"I would cover for you. I'm the boss, remember?"

I still could not believe my luck.

"What has been happening to me these past few days?"

After lunch, Maxwell took me straight home.

I knew I had a lot of explanations to give my desk mates tomorrow at work, but for now, all I want to do now is to travel at the thoughts and possibilities of being a wife to the youngest and wealthiest CEO in Washington DC.....
