Tell The Alpha, I Won’t Go.
Nalani quietly entered her room, feeling shaken from her encounter with the alpha.
Mita rushed in to check on her.
She examined Nalani's body for any signs of harm and noticed handprints on Nalani's sleeves.
Meeting Nalani's eyes, Mita expressed her concern without saying a word.
"Mita, I’m okay. You don’t need to check me over.”
Mita continued gently inspecting her, her eyes widened at the sight of the handprints on Nalani's sleeves.
She looked at Nalani with concern, silently seeking answers.
In her mind, Nalani cursed the alpha who had caused her distress, wishing harm upon him for what he had done.
"That alpha, causing trouble. I swear, one day he'll pay for this," Nalani thought while her cheeks flushed red.
She settled herself down on the edge of her bed, the events of the day were still fresh in her mind.
She turned to Mita, and managed a weak smile before gesturing for paper and a pencil. Mita nodded understandingly and quickly retrieved them from their secret hiding spot under the pillow.
Taking the pencil in her hand, Nalani began to write a letter to the alpha, her emotions felt raw and her thoughts were a mess.
She started by addressing him directly, expressing the fear and exhaustion she felt after their encounter. Nalani's words flowed onto the paper, detailing the danger he posed and the distress he had caused her.
In her letter, Nalani didn't hold back. She described the alpha's actions, how his behavior had shaken her to the core. She emphasized that despite his desires to marry her, she could not ignore the fear he instilled in her. Nalani poured her heart out onto the paper.
As she wrote, Mita stood by her side, silently offering support and comfort.
She watched Nalani's expression, her hand moved swiftly across the paper as she penned her thoughts.
Mita understood the gravity of the situation and the fear Nalani was experiencing.
Nalani's letter to the alpha was a plea for safety and peace. She expressed her desire to return home, away from the threat of the alpha's presence. With each word she wrote, Nalani's wish grew stronger, fueled by the need to protect herself and find solace in a familiar place.
Once she finished the letter, Nalani folded it neatly and handed it to Mita. Their eyes met, conveying a silent understanding and shared concern. Mita nodded in support, knowing the importance of Nalani's message and the weight it carried.
There was a gentle knock on the door, and a female voice called out, "Nalani, it's time to get ready for the banquet. The alpha will be introducing you as his new bride tonight."
Nalani's heart skipped a beat as she exchanged a worried glance with Mita. She could feel the tension in the air as she processed the news. "A gift for him?" Nalani whispered to Mita.
“Yes, the alpha also picked a dress for you.”
"I'm not going anywhere, and I'm certainly not wearing any dress picked out by him!"
Voice Behind the Door pressed, "Nalani, you must understand, the Alpha has made his decision. It's an honor to be chosen by him."
Nalani raised her eyebrows, “Honor? There's no honor in being forced to stand beside someone who terrifies you! I won't do it!"
"Please, Nalani, think about what you're saying. This could mean peace and prosperity for your relationship. It's just a dress."
Nalani stood from her chair, "It's not just the dress! It's everything he represents, everything he's done! How can you expect me to just forget that?"
“He's trying to make amends, to show you he cares by choosing something beautiful for you to wear."
Nalani couldn’t believe what this woman was saying, "Amends? You call this amends? I call it control. I'm not a doll to be dressed up and paraded around!"
"You're making this more difficult than it needs to be. Everyone's waiting. Don't cause a scene."
Nalani rolled her eyes and wrapped her hands around her chest, "I'll cause whatever scene I need to if it keeps me away from him. I said no, and I mean no!"
“This is not just about you. It's about your future, our community's stability."
"My future? What about my choice? My feelings? Do they not matter at all?"
"Of course, they matter, but sometimes we must make sacrifices for the greater good."
“Sacrifices? Is that what I am now? A sacrifice to his ego? No, I will not stand for this."
Voice Behind the Door let out a long sigh, "Nalani, please be reasonable. This is a big moment. Don’t ruin it over your fears. We all trust and respect our alpha.”
“My fears are real, not something to just get over for a 'big moment'. I won’t pretend to be happy."
"You're being selfish now. Think of yourself, the benefits this alliance could bring."
“Selfish? For wanting to feel safe? For not wanting to be with someone who scares me? How is that selfish?"
"All I'm asking is for you to wear the dress. Come to the banquet. Let’s discuss this later."
“And all I'm asking is to be heard, to be respected! I won't go, and that's final."
Voice Behind the Door slammed the door, "You're jeopardizing everything with your stubbornness. Please, don’t do this."
“I'm standing up for myself, for my right to choose. I won't be bullied into submission."
"You're making a mistake. This could have been a wonderful evening for you."
Nalani laughed, “A wonderful evening? In what world is it wonderful to sit next to someone you fear? I won’t be part of this bullshit."
"Think about your decision, Nalani. This won’t be easy to fix if you go through with this refusal."
“I’ve thought enough. My decision is made. Tell the Alpha I won’t be attending. I won’t wear his dress, and I won’t be his bride."
“I will convey your message, but this isn’t over. There will be consequences."
"I'm ready to face them. Better to face consequences than live a life where I'm nothing but a pawn."
"Very well, Nalani. I hope you understand what you're choosing."
“I do. And for the first time, it’s my choice. That's all I ever wanted."
