Chapter 6

Scarlet dressed up and laid on her bed using her phone when she got a knock on the door.

" Come in"

The door cracked open and Chancellor he still work there with a flash drive in his hands.

" Why are you here?" Scarlet asked not looking away from her phone

"DVV, I've got some information on the Slayers Clan and the Shadow Wolves. They both have joined hands to bring you down. Shadow Wolves is a clan that emerged not too long ago. They have tried countering attacks and reporting us to the police several times for us to get caught, but we end up smashing them. I guess that is the reason why they have joined hands with our enemies, Santiago de Costa, to bring down our Clan. There will be an exchange tonight at the end of Calla Street, but there will not be an exchange happening there. It's all a setup. I hacked into the Slayers Clan computers and found out their conversations and messages they had with Shadow Wolves." Chancellor explained, giving her the flash drive.

Scarlet's face covered up into a devilish smile. She dropped her phone and put the flash drive in. The first video that played was the conversation of the meeting they in the had in person. She smiled, staring at them. They're fools that don't know what they want. She glanced at Chancellor for a second before gesturing for him to leave. Chancellor, was the guy she picked up from the street, and is very talented. She decided to train him to become what he is today. He might not be skilled in fighting, but he has an excellent brain with an IQ of 140 percent.

Santiago de Costa her swan enemy. Trained together in Atlanta by same godfather but he had to rebel when he found out that Scarlet was taking after the godfather. Little did he know that she rejected his offer and started her own Clan all by herself. She didn't want to depend on anybody to start her life. She was still when her phone rang.

" Godfather! You called?" She said coldly after picking up.

" You know what Santiago is planning tonight right?" A deep dark voice asked from the other of the line.

" Yes and that's why am going" Scarlet replied.

" Devil's venomous viper, you're not going anywhere. Don't start a fight yet await my orders" the voice ordered.

" Lord Smith, you know I don't take orders from anybody expect myself" she reminded him of her rules.

" And that rule doesn't include me girl. Don't fight Santiago. Await my orders" he said and dropped the call. She stared at nothing in particular before laying down to sleep. Only if her childhood hurtful memories will let her.

Chance was working on the system when lyric walked in holding her cat.

" Hi Chance" she greeted him.

" Ohh Lyric!! You're back?" He asked as he took the cat away from her.

" Yeah . I saw how well you treated luna" she said referring to the cat.

Chance smiled and went into what he was doing while Lyric sat on a chair close to him just watching his face.

Ever since he joined the Clan, she had the largest crush on him, but he was too busy to even notice her feelings for him. And before the trip, she asked him to take care of her cat, Luna, just to get close to him, but he still doesn't want to loosen up a bit around her.

For days, she had fantasized about being alone with him, and yet, when the moment finally arrived, she felt tongue-tied. Her heart pounded as she tried to find the right words.

"I hope you don't mind," she began, "but I'm glad you're here. I know you must be busy, and I'm grateful you took the time to come and take care of Luna. I've always admired how you are so dedicated to your work, even if it keeps you away from the others. But I still wish I could get to know you better" Lyric said, smiling shyly.

Chance looked up at her, his expression unreadable. After a moment, he stood and moved towards the window, his eyes fixed on the garden outside.

"I appreciate your kind words, But I'm afraid I must ask you not to mistake my dedication to your cat for interest in you. I am merely a man of duty, and I have many responsibilities that keep me occupied" he said calmly.

Lyric's heart sank as she realized what he was saying. She had hoped that maybe, just maybe, he would feel the same way she did. But it seemed that he only saw her as a bother, not as someone he could share his life with. Her cheeks flushed with shame and embarrassment, and she felt a lump in her throat as she tried to blink back her tears

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend you" she managed to say.

Lyric turned away from him, not wanting him to see her cry. She walked towards the door, her head held high, trying to keep her composure. But the moment she was out of his sight, she broke down, the tears streaming down her face. She couldn't believe that she had let herself believe that he might care for her. She felt so foolish and exposed. As she walked away, she could only hope that he would forget this awkward encounter and they could go back to being merely colleagues.

Chance leaned against the window, feeling a heavy weight in his chest. He closed his eyes, the memory of his first love flooding back to him. She had been the light of his life, and when she was taken from him, it felt like a part of his soul was ripped away. He had made a promise to himself, that he would never allow himself to love another like that. But Lyric's sweet smile and kind heart had slowly been chipping away at that promise.

Chance took a deep breath, trying to clear his mind. But he couldn't shake the feeling of regret that was gnawing at him. He knew that he had hurt Lyric by his words, and he hated himself for it. He knew that she deserved better, and he didn't know what to do. He wished he could go back and take his words back, but he knew that it was impossible. All he could do was try to make things right, somehow. But how?
