Chapter 3

Kamila was stuck in a difficult position. True, she needs money for her mother's surgery. But was there any other solution to getting a lot of money in a short time without having to marry a mafia?

"Gerald's family has given us one billion rupiah as dowry. If you agree to marry him, Aunty will give you four hundred million rupiah to treat your mother's illness until it is cured," Miranda said.

"Four hundred million rupiah will be enough for your mom's surgery. You must be happy and look like Aunty's daughter! Cherish this opportunity! Otherwise, relying on your own work and the few acres of land your family owns, you might not be able to earn that much money for the rest of your life." Miranda said something that put pressure on Kamila to make a decision quickly.

Kamila was silent. She could not afford to pay for all of her mother's medical expenses and could not replace her aunt's money either. However, not doing it this way would be the solution! Hadn't her aunt just said that he was from the most powerful Mafia family? If they found out that she had cheated on him, wouldn't they be angry?

However, Miranda didn't think so. Vira ran away, but the wedding could not be canceled. The wedding must be held on time. Kamila was the best candidate. She had to marry him, even if she didn't want to!

"Don't forget, your brother, Reynaldi, is still working at your aunt's husband's company. His job is very important. If anything happens, no one can protect him." Miranda looked at her freshly manicured nails and sneered.

That sentence almost made Kamila cry. She thought of her family. Reality was too cruel! After talking to her aunt, Kamila decided to leave. She walked sluggishly, with no zest for life. Her gaze was blank, her mind raging. Kamila gasped when she heard a horn. Turning her head to the left, there were many vehicles stopped nearby.

"Hey, if you want to cross, look around! You already know this is a highway. Do you want to get hit to death?" A motorist scolded Kamila. The girl just realized that she was crossing the road.

"Sorry," Kamila said softly. Walking to the side.

Kamila went to see her mother. Arriving at the hospital, Kamila headed to the ICU room, where her mother was being treated. She looked at her mother's face through the glass. Her mother needed money for liver cancer surgery. If she had four hundred million rupiah, her mother would probably be cured of the disease. She resisted Miranda's coercion, but she could not deny that she desperately needed the money.

"Mom, what should I do?" A single teardrop fell down Kamila's left cheek. The longer it went on, the more tears spilled out.

Kamila reached into her pants pocket when she heard her cell phone ring. Her father's name appeared on the screen. "Hello, Father. What's wrong?" she asked.

"I received news from the police that your brother was arrested for suspected corruption."

Kamila's eyes rounded at the bad news. If she hadn't held her phone firmly, it might have fallen out. Her heart raced, and her limbs felt weak until finally Kamila's body leaned against the wall and slumped to the floor. Problems came in rapid succession. Kamila was frustrated.

Her brother, Reynaldi, worked at his uncle's company as Miranda's husband. However, he was just an ordinary employee with no access to finance. Before leaving, her aunt said to her, "Call me when you have made your choice. I have prepared a wedding dress and ring for you. You are very similar to Vira. You can use hers. Aunty will give you money to help you with your life. If you refuse, don't blame Aunty for being so cruel."

Kamila knew that the best way the best way to save her brother from being accused of innocence was to ask Miranda for help. Miranda did all the things that made Kamila quickly make a choice. She typed something into her phone and contacted someone.

"Please free Brother Reynaldi and Aunt Miranda. I agree to marry that man."

After contacting Miranda, as expected, Reynaldi was released. The company's legal department said that it was a misunderstanding. They dropped the charges after paying a fine. However, Reynaldi had already been threatened once at the detention center.

Therefore, he knew that her sister had made a great sacrifice for him and her family. For the first time in his life, he felt that he was incompetent to protect his sister and family.

Arriving home. Reynaldi looked deeply into the eyes of her sister, who looked depressed after making such a difficult decision in her life.

“I can't agree." Reynaldi looked at his sister and said it angrily. "He was the head of the biggest mafia family. He killed a lot of people. Even if he falls into a coma, you still have to face his horrible family. I won't let you make such a big sacrifice." At the end of his sentence, Reynaldi's voice trembled.

Kamila had told him that she met her aunt and was forced to become the surrogate bride of her runaway cousin.

“I have no other choice. This decision is hard for me. But it's for the sake of the family, for the cost of Mom's surgery, to get Brother out of prison, and for our lives." Kamila's heart was aching; she spoke through tears. "Only to Brother, I tell you this. Please don't tell Mom and Dad." Kamila did not want her parents to know about it.

"How could you hide it? After you married that man, you couldn't stay at home anymore. Mom and Dad aren't fools. Won't they suspect you?" Reynaldi asked.

Tears rolled down both of Kamila's cheeks. Reynaldi could not say anything. He could only hug her sister tightly. He silently vowed that he would do his best to protect his family. He would make his aunt and family pay the price.

"Help me hide it from Mom and Dad," Kamila said to her brother. "Tell them that I'm applying for a new program and will be living on campus. I can't come back often. If anything happens, call me immediately," she continues.

Since they were young, the sisters have always been close. In the past, when Kamila was a naughty little girl, her brother always protected her if she made a mistake. Now, she is all grown up. He could no longer look after her like he used to. Thinking about that, Reynaldi felt his heart tighten. He felt very upset.

"I will take you home as soon as possible." Reynaldi's tone was very serious, as if he were vowing to do so.

"Although he is the head of a mafia family, he has been in a coma for two months and maybe years. He may not have a long life, so there's no need to worry." The more Kamila spoke, the smaller her voice became. It seemed like she wanted to reassure Reynaldi. In fact, she was also comforting herself.

They chatted on the rooftop until midnight. When the stars left, they went back to their rooms. The next day, Kamila told her father that she had to stay on campus for a period of time. She told them not to worry. Although her father was reluctant to let her go, he eventually agreed.

Kamila went straight to Miranda's house. Her aunt's house was huge. It had three floors, a hanging garden, and a swimming pool. Every time they cleaned the house, ten maids were needed. This time, Kamila came here with a heavy heart. As soon as she was in front of the main door of Miranda's house, it opened without Kamila knocking first. Out came the two guards who had come to see Kamila; they immediately grabbed the girl's hands and tied them tightly.

"Let go of me!"
