A son

Angel

I had to force myself to avoid Dimitri's eyes as he stared at me, clearly realizing that I had a son. He was clearly shocked.

The man kept his eyes on me, and although he was still kneeling, gripping my hand, I knew he was more than a little shocked by what he had just learned. I couldn't blame him; I knew I would have had the same reaction if I were in his place.

Luke looked at me for a moment, knowing that this wouldn't end without a proper conversation. But I wanted to end the day and leave here before. And knowing my mother, I knew she probably would have arranged a ride to the airport for me the second the ceremony ended to see me away from there as soon as possible.

"Shall I leave you two to talk?" Luke asked, somewhat hesitantly. I looked at Dimitri, knowing he wanted to talk to me, and nodded. It was Haizel, his partner and wife, who refused to leave.

"I'm not going anywhere," she said, and I shook my head at her. A small smile touched my lips as I looked at our guests who were entering, knowing it wasn't tiresome to argue with a woman like her. She got what she wanted; the idea of her being so insecure didn't make sense to me.

"Well, I am." I said, looking at my son whose eyes were fixed on mine. "How about we take you to play with the other kids in the garden? Mommy will spend some time with her guests."

Lowrence smiled and nodded before waving to the two of them. The woman's eyes were fixed on him for a moment, and although I didn't understand why, I knew not to worry about questioning.

"I'll be back in a minute, Luke." I said, and my brother nodded. My eyes met my mother's, and although she didn't say a word, her intense and stern look spoke louder than her words. The woman was angry, and I knew she wanted to make a fuss about our earlier discussion, but I also knew she would be controlling herself enough to remember that tonight was about my brother. She didn't want to ruin it. Besides, the number of people watching would judge whatever was going to happen, and that was the last thing she sought.

I went out with my son, his eyes meeting mine before spotting the child who was supposedly his older sister, Antonia.

"Mommy, who was that man?" He asked, looking at me with beautiful blue eyes. I smiled and knelt, looking him in the eyes as I ran my finger over his cheek. Regardless of the anger I felt towards Dimitri, I knew not to make the child hate him. He was his son.

"He's one of the strongest of all the Alphas. Mommy's old friend," I said, and his eyes widened.

"Like a superhero?" He asked, and I smiled.

"Even stronger than a superhero," I said, and his eyes lit up. I kissed his cheek before looking at the other children. Antonia was playing in the distance with two of her maids behind her, not socializing with the other children. "How about you go play? I'll be inside if you need anything, okay?"

"Yes, Mommy," he said, turning to the other children. I watched as they started playing with a ball and nodded to the director who was with the babysitters, making sure they didn't get too distracted. The last thing we needed was an accident tonight.

I turned to go in only to furrow my brow when I saw Dimitri standing in the doorway, silently telling me that he had heard everything I said to my son. His eyes met mine, but I quickly lowered my gaze as I went inside.

He wrapped his hand around my arm, stopping me, and I took a deep breath before looking at the man questioning.

"A superhero?" Dimitri asked, shaking his head in question.

I pulled my arm from his grasp and gave him the best sarcastic smile I could muster. The pain I felt wasn't one I liked, and despite believing that I could handle it, seeing him for the first time, in front of me, since the divorce didn't go so easily for me.

"The last thing I want is for my son to know that his father is a douchebag, right?" I asked sarcastically. I walked past him, entering the house without saying another word, while forcing myself to ignore the knot forming in my throat.

Dimitri's gaze burned into my back as I walked inside the house. I knew this conversation was far from over, but I wasn't ready to face it at that moment.

So as I hurried away from Dimitri, trying to escape the tension hanging in the air, I barely had time to distance myself when Haizel approached me, confronting me with a firm and determined gaze.

"What's going on here?" She asked, her voice loaded with a mixture of suspicion and authority. It was evident she wasn't pleased with the situation and wanted immediate answers.

"Stay away from my husband," she said, and I nodded as a laugh escaped my lips before I could stop it. "I'm not joking..."

"Ah, I'm sorry," I replied, my voice faltering under her piercing gaze. But before I could continue, we were interrupted, and the tension in the air heightened even more as an argument began to brew between Luke and Dimitri across the room. Both were visibly tense, and I found myself in the midst of a larger conflict than I had imagined.
