Chapter 2 Two Sides of the Bed

Stuart's eyes were soft as he took off his suit jacket and gently draped it over Doris.

With one arm around her, he comforted her, patting her back. Doris sobbed while Josephine talked to the traffic cops. Doris's brother, driving without a license, didn't yield while turning, causing a three-car pileup. He was at fault. The other driver was seriously hurt, with a broken arm and in a coma.

Doris's brother had a bump on his forehead, with initial medical checks indicating a mild concussion, as he was being transported to the hospital in an ambulance.

Josephine walked up behind Stuart, watching her husband and his lover's cozy interaction with a mix of bitterness and irritation.

She couldn't help but size up Doris, who looked sweet in her doll-collar dress and big, bright eyes. In terms of looks, temperament, and figure, Doris was definitely Stuart's type—the pure and innocent kind. Stuart's tastes hadn't changed in years.

Doris, with tears in her eyes and a slight tremble in her body, still tried hard to smile. "Stuart, you're so good. I was in the passenger seat during the crash, and I genuinely thought I might lose you."

Stuart patiently comforted her, "It's okay, I'm here."

Doris said, "Stuart, please help my brother. He didn't mean any harm. He's young and still learning."

"Okay, I'll have my secretary follow up. I promise your brother will be fine," Stuart assured her.

Doris beamed with joy, her eyes wide and innocent, flashing a sweet, naive smile. "Stuart, you're truly wonderful."

Josephine raised an eyebrow at this, sneering inwardly.

Doris had Stuart wrapped around her finger, agreeing to help without even asking what happened.

Doris's brother was driving without a license.

This might be tricky for Stuart but not impossible, just morally questionable.

At this moment, Doris finally noticed Josephine standing not far away.

At first sight of Josephine, Doris was stunned, momentarily dazed.

Despite her simple dress and listless demeanor, Josephine's beauty was undeniable. Her cute outfit did little to diminish her cool, ethereal temperament, and her outstanding features shone even without makeup.

Doris snapped back to reality, starting to compete inwardly.

She deliberately avoided Stuart's line of sight and gave Josephine a provocative smile.

Then, she snuggled into Stuart's arms, her voice trembling. "Stuart, who is she? Why is she looking at me like that?"

Stuart looked down, his gaze meeting Doris's tearful, innocent eyes.

His heart softened, and he patted Doris's back soothingly like comforting a child.

When he looked up at Josephine, the gentleness in his eyes vanished, replaced by sarcasm. "Oh, she's Mrs. Haustia. She always looks down on others."

Josephine sneered, Stuart really had two faces, one in bed and one out.

She had no interest in being part of their play.

Stuart's words confirmed Doris's suspicions. She was initially nervous, not expecting to meet his wife so soon.

When Doris joined the company, she often heard praise for Josephine's beauty and incredible medical talents.

Later on, she found herself unexpectedly promoted to the secretary group, and her dynamic with Stuart became increasingly murky, intensifying her desire to become Mrs. Haustia. She feared being discovered by Josephine and worried about being outshone.

Doris's grip on Stuart's shirt loosened involuntarily. But hearing the sarcasm in his tone, her eyes flickered with sudden confidence. Stuart treated her much better than Josephine.

Doris's bright eyes sparkled as she quickly broke free from Stuart's embrace, flashing a sweet smile, and warmly preparing to greet Josephine. "Josephine, hi! I'm Doris, Stuart's assistant."

But as soon as she took a step, Doris collapsed back into Stuart's arms.

She frowned, pointing at her left foot, tearfully saying, "Stuart, I think I sprained my ankle."

"Let me see." Stuart immediately squatted down to check Doris's injury, his cold expression unable to hide his concern.

Josephine looked at Doris meaningfully, their eyes meeting, Doris was declaring war!

Doris's heart trembled, Josephine's gaze seemed to see through her.

Josephine suddenly smiled charmingly, seemingly unintentionally lifting her hair to reveal her neck with red marks.

Noticing the hickeys, Doris clenched her jaw tightly, her gums biting hard.

Jealousy grew like wild grass in her heart.

Stuart checked Doris's ankle but couldn't see anything wrong, then he remembered Josephine beside him.

Habitually, he ordered, "Josephine, come and check Doris's injury."

Josephine crossed her arms, standing still.

Stuart's anger grew, he forcibly pulled Josephine to Doris, coldly saying to her, "Josephine, don't forget you're a doctor."

Josephine rolled her eyes, expressionlessly lowering her head to check Doris's ankle.

She could easily see through Doris's poor acting, but out of professional duty, Josephine patiently asked and examined, "How did you sprain it? Can you move it?"

Doris timidly said, "I don't know, it just hurt when I moved."

As soon as Josephine touched it, Doris gasped, her eyes instantly filling with tears.

This speed, even a faucet couldn't match her.

Stuart was displeased. "Could you be a bit more gentle? Doris is a girl, she's afraid of pain."

Josephine smirked. "Appearances can be deceiving. The pain might be deeper, affecting the muscles and bones. Go to the hospital for a blood test and a CT scan to check the injury."

If Doris liked to act, she could do it at the hospital, and it would help Josephine earn some money.

Doris tugged Stuart's shirt, tiptoeing to whisper in his ear, "Stuart, it's getting late. Maybe you and Josephine should head back. I can manage the hospital visit on my own."

Her voice was loud enough for Josephine to hear.

As if encouraging herself, Doris repeated, "I can go alone."

Stuart's gaze was one Josephine had never seen, full of gentle indulgence. "It's okay, I'll stay with you."

Doris looked up, her eyes innocent, slightly apologetic, "What about Josephine? Will she be angry?"

Josephine couldn't hold back anymore, coldly speaking, "Can you call me that too?"

Doris's eyes immediately reddened, she shook her head and waved her hands. "I'm sorry, Dr. Kalmien, I didn't mean to."

Then she forced herself to bow deeply to Josephine.

Not waiting for Josephine's response, Doris refused to straighten up.

Stuart immediately got angry, straightening Doris up. "Josephine, Doris called you Josephine out of kindness, What's the issue? Why are you losing your temper? Where's your manners?"

Every word was meant to hurt Josephine.

"This is losing my temper? I don't know her, she calls me so familiarly at our first meeting, I'm not used to it, so I corrected her, is that a problem?" Josephine's lips curled into a mocking smile. "Forget it, you guys continue, I won't stay, I'll notify my colleagues about the tests."

With that, Josephine left without looking back.

In the dark night, she looked like a lone warrior.

Stuart saw the bitter smile on Josephine's lips as she turned, feeling a strange sensation in his heart.

He lifted his leg, intending to chase after her.

At this moment, Doris murmured, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to," pretending to chase after Josephine.
