Chapter 3

Odette’s point of view: The meeting in the forest.

When the light faded back into my body, I removed my hand from her elbow and it was completely healed. With a bright smile on her face, she thanked me with a hug before returning to her section of rocks.

I slowly sat down on the soft green grass and closed my eyes for a bit, until the dizziness in my head had stopped. I always feel a little dizzy after I used my healing abilities, but fortunately it only lasts a few seconds before it fades away. Dad always told me that I shouldn’t use my abilities in front of strangers, because it could place me in an unnecessarily dangerous position.

So, I should only use my abilities in the presence of individuals, I trust completely. That means for now, I can only use my healing abilities on the people in our village, because they are all our family and can be trusted whole heartedly. Someday when I find my immortal mate, I would also be able to use it on him and his relatives.

When it was time to go home, we got ready for our journey back up the mountains. Everyone was exhausted but still in good spirits. While I was waiting for the girls to walk ahead of me, I suddenly started to feel uneasy, when I heard strange noises traveling through the trees. It was near the lakefront where we had our picnic a few hours before.

Suddenly my dad's warning of the morning came to me. I stopped one of the girls closest to me and calmly told her to urge the girls home immediately. As I was sure the girls are safely on their way back home, I slowly made my way back down the mountain, straight towards the strange noises traveling through the tree branches. I passed through the picnic area, further into the forest.

After a while of searching, my feet were sore and I started to lose hope of finding the origin of the noises that grew more faint as time passed by. Then suddenly I saw black leather boots, sticking out behind one of the older, bigger trees...

With very slow and determined steps, I went closer and closer, until I discovered a large dark figure leaning against the tree. When I came to a full stop in front of the large figure, I realized it was a man leaning against the tree trunk.

He was wearing dark coloured clothes with a long overcoat covering most of his upper body. My curiosity overwhelmed me, so I decided to go stand even closer.

From where I was standing I could finally examine his facial features in detail. He has shoulder length, wavy, dark brown hair, a wide forehead, high cheekbones, a proud and straight nose, perfectly shaped full lips and a strong and chiselled jawline. I can say in full honesty, I have never seen a more handsome looking man in my life!

I quickly snapped myself out of the daze I had fallen into and reached out my hand to feel if he had a pulse, but suddenly, in mid-air he grabbed my arm and opened up his eyes. For a moment we just stared at each other, but quickly I realized what's happening and pulled my arm out of his much bigger hand.

Odette: “I apologize for startling you sir, I just wanted to feel your pulse.”

Odette: “I also wanted to make sure you’re still breathing properly, because I couldn’t see your breathing patterns from the angle I was standing in.”

Stranger: “Thank you for your concern miss, but as you can see there’s no need for that, I am just resting my eyes for a while.”

Instead of feeling relieved, I gasped in shock when I saw the deep wound in his shoulder, as he slightly moved in a more upright position.

Odette: “Sir, you are very badly hurt! Please allow me to tend to your wound?”

Stranger: “No thank you, I am really fine! I can handle it on my own, it is of no importance.”

I immediately dismissed his words and with determination, I crouched down next to him on my knees and started a closer inspection of the wound.

Odette: “I don't care about your opinion on this matter, most importantly this wound needs to be cleaned and treated properly, otherwise you might not be able to use your arm again.”

Odette: “My village isn't that far away, if we can make it to the top of the mountain, I can help heal the wound with special herbs, that we grow in the gardens.”

Without another word, I stood up and carefully helped him up on his feet.

Odette: “So will you accept my offer?”

Stranger: “Seeing that you are too stubborn to take no for an answer, I will accept your help!”

With a ghost of a smile on his lips, he leaned on my shoulder and slowly we made our way through the forest. Later when we got to the baseline of the mountain, he let me help him climb up the steep pathway.
