WORM FOR THE FISH.
I could not get Alpha Jaime's final words out of my head.
"Explain to us, Why he came for me specifically"
Explain! What am I? Some mind reader?
It seemed like they knew something, so I should have been the one to ask them those questions. It was written all over their faces.
I scoffed, smirking"Explain to you?" I repeat, raising an eyebrow. "You're the ones who watched it happen, how about you tell me why a stranger with so much strength and power decided to show up the day I was supposed to get married to your stupid son!"
I thundered, to my surprise.
"If I were you, I'd watch my tongue"
"Not like I care" I said walking back to my seat.
"After a few moments of silence, Alpha Jaime grunted "Freya, Listen here, You're the bitch he took so I'm not gonna ask nicely again, What the hell does he want from you or should i say with you?"
An old man talking like a little girl. Ugh!
I knew what I was in between, I knew where I was, I knew the two people around me; Psycho. Even in the event of a fight, I remained feeble. Hundreds of Wolves and two Alphas were waiting outside, and I was helpless against them. And even if I couldn't, whatever information I had about the "MONSTER" was too important to give out to idiots like Alpha Jaime and Astrid.
So I play dumb instead.
"Look, I don't know nothing alright? How about you go ask him yourself, or are you scared of him? I answered, making my tone sound as though I was mocking them.
Jaime hums while glancing over me from head to foot and all the way around. Choosing whether or not to believe me. Should he murder his victim or allow it to live another day?
He continued to scan me with his eyes as he spoke, "I recognize that shirt; he was wearing it the day he attacked us."
With a shrug, I said, "I did not see."
His nostrils flare slightly as I watch them open and close.
"You put it on yourself?"
"He made me"
We trio stood there, watching Alpha Jaime lost in thoughts. His head faced down and his hands clenched together. The fact that Astrid had not spoken since surprised me a lot.
Whatever it was that made him quiet was really serious.
The ice was broken.
"It's you, You're the one"
"Huh?"
"It all makes sense now. We were too blind to notice that he had been observing all along, waiting for the ideal moment to strike." He said running his two hands over his hair.
He looked stressed. Woah!
Nevertheless, I was still unable to fully follow him and comprehend his meaning.
"I don't un-"
"You're Astrid's Luna. Taking the Alpha's Luna means he's trying to prove something."
"Prove what, exactly?"
"Dominance!" He thundered and I flinched.
"Wait..so I'm just some..."
"Funny or not. You're nothing but Worm to the fishes. The bait! And he is attempting to undermine my son's authority. His rightful position!"
I was speechless for a minute or two. I didn't know how to react to the fact that I was just called a worm and to the fact that the mysterious thing that kidnapped me is using me as bait!
I was vexed.
Is this my purpose in life? The only thing I'm good for?.
Being used by people to achieve Their goals.
No matter how I viewed it, Alpha Jaime was right. Or at least.
I felt a pang of stupidity floating above me. It explained why he wanted the scent of Astrid off my skin.
I catch Astrid stiffening in his chair out of the corner of my eye. There is no doubt that his jaw is clenched, and I would bet good money that a vein in his neck is just itching to show.
"So, am I just his plaything? To play games with?"
Stretching his long legs out, Alpha Jaime pulls out the chair across from his son and settles down. With a sigh, he folds his arms across his chest. The old Alpha's forehead is furrowed by three noticeable stress lines.
"Evan The Exiled doesn't play games, not with people. Evan destroys anything he touches. Life is meaningless to Evan The Exiled"
My whole body twitches with a strong shiver, and I can hear my breath catch in my throat. Every beat is echoed back to my chest, which feels like a drum locked in a room with metal walls. There is something horrifying about this name.
Evan! The Exiled. That's his name. Wow!
My eyes blur out of focus as I remember his face. The ideal amount of stubble covered his flawless jawline. I have never had the opportunity to feel stubble in my palm or against my skin. His cheekbones were strong and his nose was sharply cut.
Everything about him, even the tiny scar that severes the tip of his right eyebrow, seems off somehow. His name was a perfect fit for him.
My attention is called upon by an enraged growl. I look up to find Nathan staring at me with an intense glare.
"I can sense you're thinking of him now, aren't you? Letbme guess, you think he can fight me and win?"
He asked two questions but yet, I couldn't help but feel I was being accused.
His confidence in himself surprises me, and I raise an eyebrow. Naturally, though, he would be confident. Assholes never stop doing it. His arrogant desire for self-assurance is matched by my overwhelming desire to undermine it.
A sinister smile begins to tug at the edges of my mouth.
"Maybe he will, of course he would," I laugh and blow air out of my nose. I said, "Look at you and your father, you are stressed out and losing hair." I stared into Astrid's eyes for a long time.
I went on, "He has already taken your Luna, killed a couple of your pack members, and taken over the pack house." Tell me now, isn't he already winning?"
He shows it. The fiery red eyes of anger and hate, but that ain't going to move me.
"Seriously? Is that all you ever do? Show your anger? A strange man is in your land, dominating! And you lot are in here whining!"
Just as I had said that, his eyes went back to normal and I could see him grinding his teeth.
There was something about this case that kept getting me on the edge; it was an unbelievable sight to see Alpha Jaime stressed. No one stresses him, no one disturbs him and if anyone does. He'd just swipe his hands and we'll...you know the rest.
I couldn't say the same for Astrid though. He was just a little boy who still had a long way to go.
A quiet growl rumbles in his throat as he slowly comes to sit up straighter in his chair.
"Son" he called, his face looking unsettled "Take her to the dungeon"
What!
Are these two going crazy or something?
I was so sick to my stomach that it nearly burst. My face appears paler in colour. My stomach turns so tightly I feel like throwing up. I am trembling from hanging my jaw. clenching. clearly trembling.
"She's your Luna. Not his and she won't be of any use to him"
He was right but still...
I took five steps back k from Astrid who was already standing in his chair.
"Heyy! Get your hands off me, you dumbhead"
I didn't sound the way I wanted. My voice and I were both weak.
He didn't stop. He kept coming and Alpha Jaime just sat down watching his stupid son try to grab my arms.
"I SAID STOP!"
I jerk back, backing toward the door. I register that the side of my face is twitching, involuntarily.
"Cone on Freya -bab_"
drienne-"
"Shut the hell up and keep my name out of your twisted mouth"
His face went red and just as it did, I saw his claws making their way out of his fingers. They looked really long and sharp.
"It's pointless. Just give in"
I grab the door from behind and throw it open, dashing out so quickly I almost trip over my own feet. I turn to see him in the doorway, reaching quickly for my arm. At the same moment that the door slams shut, there is a scream coming from the other side.
Before I turn and carelessly run into the forest's underbrush, I notice the polished nails of four fingers jutting out.
I hope they rot and fall off. Asshole.
The question that has been bothering me and giving me a migraine too made me stop in my tracks, wishing I was still there with Alpha Jaime.
WHERE IS LILA?
