Chapter 10. The Anxiousness

"Dad, I don't want to get married! I want to continue my career at Excellor." Pearl persisted in begging while whining a hundred times. She would never give up to tell how she felt. Since returning from the Kellents', Pearl was increasingly uneasy. She would do anything to negotiate or beg, even if she had to cry. Everything she fought for all this time was in vain because of that arranged marriage. After all, she dislikes Taggart Kellent.

"Be quiet, Pearl. Don't keep whining. We will not change any decisions. Taggart Kellent will be your fiance, and then you will marry him." Sandra directly scolded rebelled Pearl.

"But Mom, I'm still young. I just turned 21 last month. How could you bury my future like that? I can't do that." Pearl was on the verge of crying as she desperately explained the situation to Sandra. Sandra sat in the front passenger seat. Thus, she was so annoyed with Pearl that she turned back to scold her.

"Why not? You have to wait and sit back as a bride. They will give you a decent life. You don't need to work or pursue a career at that company. Isn't that hundreds of times better than your life now?" Sandra replied sarcastically to Pearl. Pearl felt like she wanted to cry. John, who was also annoyed, then immediately cut the talk.

"That's enough. You guys keep arguing, so I can't give my focus on driving. We could have an accident on the way," said John, warning Sandra. Sandra glared at him, who was now scolding her, even though he also mentioned Pearl.

"Didn't you hear what she said? It's because you pamper her too much. She'll never hear anything you say!" Sandra curtly rebuked John. John tried not to get annoyed and kept driving calmly. He turned and nodded.

"Can we just talk at home? I was driving, but you kept talking. We could have a car accident." John repeated his warning once again. Sandra snorted, then looked away to the side. John took a deep sigh and then shook his head. With one hand, he pressed his forehead and massaged it slowly. His head started to hurt throughout the night. The decision was so hard to make.

Pearl then only lowered her face. She wiped her tears a few times. She felt so upset when she remembered what happened at the Kellent's.

Pearl walked to the house with a worn-out face when she arrived home. Briana was peeking at her parents' car and arrived from her bedroom window. She quickly rushed downstairs. Keith also followed her. Unfortunately, Briana widened her eyes when she saw Pearl's sad expression.

"Are you guys home?" Briana muttered in surprise. Sandra immediately glared at her daughter.

"Why do you ask such a thing? What are you planning?" Sandra was immediately suspicious of Briana. Keith stepped forward to protect his little sister. There, he grinned widely and made a reason.

"Nothing, Mom. We're just waiting for you to come home. Is everything okay?" Keith asked something to distract Sandra. Briana then came through. She walked closer to Pearl, who just kept her face down silently.

"Pearl, from now on, you don't need to do that internship program at that company anymore. You should write your resignation letter soon, or when your future husband finds out about it, he will be angry," exclaimed Sandra. John released a deep, annoying sigh but stayed muted. Meanwhile, Briana and Keith were appaled.

"What do you mean? Future husband? Are you going to get married?"

Sandra put her hands on her hips and became increasingly suspicious of Briana.

"Briana, don't try to protect your sister this time. She will soon marry a very rich man." Sandra warned Briana again. Briana was stunned into disbelief. Keith almost dropped his jaw to hear his mom's confession. In the same way, it sounds dumb.

"But why did Pearl have to marry that man? Can't she choose the man she loves?" Briana kept protesting against Sandra.

"Pearl must marry someone she deserves. She cannot marry just any man." Sandra replied arrogantly. Keith frowned at his mom now. She didn't make sense.

"Mom, you can't force her to do that. After all, she's still young, and now she is currently interning at Excellor. If she gets married now, they will expel her from the internship program," said Keith, defending Pearl. Sandra presently glared at her son. The insistence nearly led her to abandon her claim that Pearl wasn't her biological kid. However, John quickly interrupted because he didn't want a fuss.

"Stop this argument. It is late. We'd better rest, and tomorrow we'll discuss it." John then made a decision that saved Sandra. Sandra looked away in disdain. Hence, she should feel lucky.

"Come on, Pearl. Go up to your room, dear. We'll talk about this tomorrow." John smiled slightly. Pearl returned the smile, even though it was vague and bitter. Briana and Keith didn't want to drag things out any longer. They followed Pearl upstairs and left their parents in the living room.

As soon as all the children left, Sandra immediately turned around and glared at John. She didn't like how John always allowed Pearl to defend herself.

"You always safe, that girl. Remember, John, she is not our biological daughter at all. You were supposed to agree to Mr. Kellent when we were there. so that we can quickly get rid of the debt problem." Sandra hissed her annoyance at John. She widened sharply, posing a threat to John. John still needs to answer. He consistently lost his firm demeanour when he faced Sandra.

"Now, if you don't force her to marry Taggart Kellent, I will reveal your secrets to Pearl. She will hate you, John." Sandra continued her sentence curtly. She turned to depart, leaving John, still stunned by his anxiety, behind.

"Oh, God. What should I do?" John sat on the sofa, holding his head. He muttered quietly, having no way of finding a solution. On the one hand, John couldn't bear to put Pearl in danger. Taggart Kellent is not human. He's the next strongest Alpha, capable of killing Pearl anytime. She would only be his toothpick against his power and strength.
