Chapter 6

It was only seven years after Jasmine returned from Alpha Jace's pack. She didn't really want to be there, but after the conversation between her father and her stepmother where she heard that she was only given to the prince because the prince was known to be ruthless, she had no choice.

Alpha Jace was kind to her and had asked her to marry her several times, even after finding out about her pregnancy, but she refused. She didn't feel anything for him and didn't want to marry him because of the safety he provided.

So far, Prince Matt had been kind to her and their children and everything was going well. She was a queen now, with her own maids, but it seemed as though Matt wasn't even caring for her as he used to. She didn't want to jump to conclusions until she was sure that something was wrong.

"Your Highness, it's time for breakfast," Cara, her personal maid said, jolting her back to the present.

"Thank you, Cara. How are the boys?"

It was a tradition in Nighthawk pack that the princes were not to sleep in their mother's room immediately after their first year's birthday. A tradition that Jasmine had found weird as they were just children who should be with their mother every time.

Since Cara was the person she trusted most, she had told Cara to keep an eye on the children, despite them having their own governess.

The only time she ever saw her children was during mealtimes and sometimes when she'd go to the playground and watch them play or sometimes when she'd sneak into their rooms.

She had asked Matt to do something about it, but he had said that it was what he too went through and it was because they were being groomed to take over the throne one day.

She stood up and walked to the dining area, seeing that her husband was already there with her four sons.

"Good morning, Your Highness," they said and she said nothing, pursing her lips in a thin line.

Everyone annoyed her. From her husband who no longer slept in the room they shared to her children who had never regarded her as their mother. They never even called her 'Mummy'. From when they were babies, they had a wet nurse to breastfeed them. She was only allowed to be with them until their first birthday.

"Slept well? You look sullen?" Matt said as he focused on the paper in front of him.

"I'm fine," She said stiffly and that was how breakfast went by in a blur.

As the Queen of the Nighthawk pack and other packs in the state, she had many duties. She was in charge of organizing events in the pack as well as hosting the monthly meeting with the Lunas from the other packs. The full moon festival was approaching and she had to prepare that as well.

Those events kept her busy sometimes and she had no time to think about her children.

Immediately after breakfast, she went to her room and had a warm bath, opting to wear a light blue dress instead of the emerald green one she was supposed to wear.

"You look gorgeous, Your Highness," Cara said and she smiled.

Cara wasn't just her maid. She considered her a friend as well. Out of all the maids assigned to her, she had instantly taken a liking to her and chose her to be her personal maid.

It wasn't long after breakfast that someone knocked at the door and Cara who had been making her hair had excused herself to go check who it was.

"Your Highness, The other women are here."

Today, she was going to meet with her ladies-in-waiting. There were five of them and it was also the custom in the Nighthawk pack to assign five female high-ranked wolves from influential families to the queen as her lady-in-waiting.

It was all so that she wouldn't feel bored as they mostly chatted and gossiped, an action she had instantly disliked, but with the women being high-ranked wolves, there was nothing she could do but put up with them.

Jasmine stood up and walked outside, with Cara closely behind her.

As soon as she got to the room, which they had made their conference room, she let out a deep breath. Spending time with the women was exhausting and she tried to avoid it as much as she could.

"Your Highness," they all stood up as she walked in.

"You look super beautiful," Leila, one of the women said. She was the one who knew everything that was going on in Nighthawk and beyond. She was the beta's wife.

"Thank you, Leila," I sat down, remembering the first time I had met them.

I was intimidated by them as they all looked very flashy and sophisticated and then there was just the very plain me. Little by little, I had grown used to them and they didn't intimidate me anymore.

They began chattering amongst themselves, just like they always did, forgetting that I was there.

"Your Highness, is everything okay? You don't look so well and you've been quiet," Maya, another one of the ladies questioned. She was the most quiet and observant of them all and the one I could tolerate a bit, but to me, they were all just the same.

"Or are you pregnant?" Aya, another woman, questioned as she chuckled.

Leila burst out laughing and the others glanced at her.

"Sorry, sorry," she waved her arm as she continued laughing. "It's just funny."

"What is funny, Leila? And why are you laughing hysterically like a mad woman? We are the high ladies of this kingdom!" Aya interjected as her brows pulled together in a frown.

"Oh common! Surely, I'm not the only one aware of how funny that statement is."

I was beginning to get angry now, but I inhaled deeply in order to calm myself.

"Yes, Leila? What is so funny about her statement?"

"Well, you know, you can't be pregnant unless you actually have sex, and from what I've been hearing, he hasn't been to your room in a long time. So unless you're getting it from someone else, it's fun…."

"Leila!" Rose, another of the ladies yelled, cutting her short.

"What? I was only just saying the…"

I swallowed hard as I struggled to not let my emotion surface on my expression. I was extremely pissed off, but worse, she wasn't lying. I hadn't been with my husband in close to a year.
