Chapter 2 Welcome Party
"Alright, Mr. Valdemar, what do you think?" Albert asked politely.
"Just give me some ointment, nothing oral, and nothing that'll mess with my flying."
Yvette stayed silent, grabbing another form and scribbling quickly.
"Albert, you're way too stressed."
"Be more careful next time."
"Yeah, I know. By the way, the base is throwing me a welcome party tonight. Should I get some hangover meds in advance?"
"You're allergic to alcohol. Don't drink."
"But if they're really into it tonight, wouldn't it be rude if I don't drink at all?"
"Don't worry, I've got you."
His words were so reassuring, but they were spoken by her secret boyfriend to another woman.
Ridiculous.
Yvette's pen pressed hard against the fragile paper, leaving deep marks.
Bad people.
Yvette really wanted to write those words on the medical chart.
"Dr. Orlando, right? I know you. I've heard you're the aloof and unapproachable one at the base hospital?"
Violet thought she had made a funny joke, but among the three people present, one was her secret lover, and the other was her best friend, so no one found it amusing.
Albert frowned slightly, seemingly not wanting Violet and Yvette to have any interaction. He turned and walked out of the consultation room first.
"Let's go. Since you're attending the welcome party, you can't just go in your work clothes."
Violet familiarly hooked her arm around Albert's, and the two walked out, chatting and laughing.
"See, the rumors were true. What a perfect match those two are!"
Sylvia clasped her hands under her chin and twisted her legs together. This iconic pose was something Yvette always thought only existed in cartoons, but Sylvia pulled it off effortlessly.
It seems the ancients didn't lie.
Art come from life.
"Yvette, this is the kind of love I envy—equally matched, a power couple! It's perfect! I'm telling you, sometimes you don't have to be in a relationship yourself to enjoy it. Watching others can be sweet too. What do you think of the couples I find compatible? Don't I have great taste?"
Sylvia grabbed Yvette's sleeve, almost wanting to follow the two who had just left to watch them show off their love.
Yvette rolled her eyes in exasperation.
"Actually, the ophthalmology and ENT departments have been pretty quiet lately. Do you want to get checked out? Your symptoms seem quite severe."
"Come on! You just don't understand my hobby. You're so unromantic! So boring! Didn't they say they were going to change clothes? Why are we still standing here? Let's go back to the dorm and change too!"
"I told you, I'm not going."
Yvette slowly took off her white coat. Underneath, she wore a vintage-style white dress with a heart-shaped collar. Her slender waist was delicate and fragile. Sylvia nodded and praised, "You don't need to change. This outfit is perfect. It's not too flashy, but it suits your style! Honestly, if I were a guy, I'd definitely like your type. You look so gentle and graceful."
Yvette couldn't stand Sylvia's excessive compliments and covered her mouth as they walked out of the hospital.
"Just so you know, I'll go with you, but don't introduce me to any weird people."
Yvette stood at the locker room door while Sylvia was already on her eighth outfit change.
"Don't worry! I'm your best friend. How could I mess with you? If I introduce you to a boyfriend, he'll be the best and most outstanding. I swear, even if he's not as good as Albert, he'll be top-notch."
To match Yvette's style, Sylvia finally chose a white polka-dot dress with a waist belt that fell just below the knee.
The two walked down the street, attracting a lot of attention.
They looked like two modern ladies from the mid-century.
The airline took Violet's arrival very seriously, hosting the welcome party at the stylish rooftop revolving restaurant at the base.
Moreover, the party had no entry restrictions. Anyone who wanted to attend could just dress appropriately and enjoy the food.
When Yvette stepped into the restaurant, she saw Albert and Violet already surrounded by people in the center, the scene lively and bustling.
In this male-dominated airline environment, female pilots were rare, and Violet's appearance naturally drew a lot of attention.
Additionally, the rumors about the two of them had been spreading like wildfire, making many gossip lovers as excited as sharks smelling blood.
In reality, Violet might not have been as popular as she seemed. Most of the women attending the party were actually interested in Albert.
After all, as the airline's pilot spokesperson, Albert's handsome appearance, tall stature, and skilled flying had made him the dream man of countless women.
Married or single, many saw him as their ideal "perfect husband."
The women drinking alone in the corner of the restaurant, one glass after another, but never approaching Albert and Violet, were clearly consumed by jealousy.
Of course, there were also people like Sylvia, who was calm and even enjoyed shipping couples, standing on the sidelines with a faint smile, quietly watching everything.
"Violet, you're finally back! You have no idea how popular Albert has been these past few years. But he's been as steady as a rock, not a single scandal. Honestly, as a man, I have to admire his self-control."
A man in a captain's uniform standing next to Albert spoke up.
He was Victor Thomas, who had a close relationship with Albert. His exaggerated expression and tone made it seem like he was telling an unbelievable story.
"I really don't get it. There are so many beautiful girls at the base, but he doesn't like any of them. If you hadn't come back, I'd have thought he was going to stay single forever."
Victor's teasing words seemed to greatly amuse Violet.
Violet covered her mouth, laughing so hard she almost doubled over, then lightly punched Victor.
Their natural and intimate interaction showed the depth of their relationship.
"Yvette, did you see that? The guy standing next to Albert, isn't he handsome?"
Sylvia gently turned Yvette's shoulders, nodding towards Albert with a proud look on her face.
"Victor is firmly in second place on the base's heartthrob list."
"What heartthrob list?"
