Chapter 2 A Hypocrite
Steven walked out of his house, greeted by a peaceful scene filled with human joy and contentment.
Many parents were playing with their children in the community square, their faces beaming with happy smiles.
But Steven knew that in a month, all of this would turn into nothing.
He quickly walked out of the community, and not far away was a Michelin Three-Star Restaurant.
A meal there would cost at least a thousand dollars, and Steven had always been reluctant to spend that much money.
But now he didn't care at all.
Having come back to life, he had to celebrate properly!
After entering the restaurant, Steven found a window seat and ordered the most expensive dishes on the menu, along with a bottle of Château Lafite Rothschild wine.
This splurge cost him seven thousand dollars.
Even the waitstaff in the restaurant gave Steven ambiguous looks, thinking he must be a rich scion.
Otherwise, an ordinary person wouldn't spend so much on a single meal.
Steven didn't care what others thought. When the table full of delicious food was served, he began to devour it.
Perhaps because he had endured six months of a frozen apocalypse, he was so moved by the delicious food that he almost cried.
His eating manner became somewhat ferocious, drawing the attention and whispers of other diners.
Steven couldn't care less.
In the post-apocalyptic world, people would even kneel and beg for a piece of bread.
By then, all civilization and morality would turn into nothing.
While Steven was eating in the restaurant, a woman passing by outside stopped in her tracks.
She was a long-haired, exquisitely made-up woman wearing Gucci high heels and carrying an LV bag.
This woman was none other than Alice, who had caused Steven's death in his previous life.
Beside her was her best friend, Ivy Scott.
Whenever the two passed by the Michelin Three-Star Restaurant, they couldn't help but take a few more glances.
They had always longed for such luxurious places.
Unfortunately, their finances didn't allow them to splurge in such places.
But that didn't stop them from looking inside with longing eyes.
Maybe they could spot a high-quality, rich scion to seduce.
To their surprise, Alice saw Steven inside, with a table full of top-tier food in front of him.
"Isn't that Steven? How does he have money to eat here?" Alice said in surprise.
Ivy also covered her mouth in astonishment. "Is Steven actually this rich?"
As she spoke, she gave Alice an ambiguous look and then laughed, "Alice, you're really lucky! That loyal pursuer of yours turns out to be a low-key rich scion."
"Look at that table of food; it must cost at least 8000 dollars. Who else but a rich person could afford such an expensive meal?" Ivy's tone was tinged with envy.
She knew that Steven had been pursuing Alice for two and a half years.
But Alice had always been stringing Steven along; she neither rejected nor accepted him.
Alice was a total material girl who always thought she could marry a high-quality, rich scion and become a wealthy wife.
But she was also reluctant to give up on Steven, who had a car and a house in Starlight City.
So all along, Alice had been keeping Steven as a B-plan.
Her principle with Steven was: don't initiate, don't refuse, don't commit.
Seeing Steven enjoying a luxurious meal worth tens of thousands of dollars alone today made Alice start to doubt herself.
"Could it be that Steven is actually a rich scion?" Alice rested her chin in her hand, deep in thought.
The more she thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
"Right, isn't this a common trope in TV shows?" Alice continued, "Someone who is actually very wealthy but pretends to be an ordinary person to find true love." Alice convinced herself, her eyes lighting up.
If that were true, it would save her a lot of effort.
After all, Steven had been pursuing her, and she felt that if she just nodded, Steven would immediately propose to her.
Ivy also urged, "Alice, let's go in and find Steven!"
In reality, she had her eyes on that table full of delicious food.
This was a Michelin Three-Star Restaurant, after all, and most people would never get the chance to taste such a feast in their lifetime.
Alice hesitated for a moment but then shook her head, saying, "That wouldn't be good! It might make him think I'm a materialistic woman."
"How about this, we'll wait outside and pretend we ran into him by chance," she suggested.
Alice wasn't stupid; she wouldn't lower her stance just for a meal.
Even if Steven was really rich, she had to maintain her goddess-like demeanor.
Only then, if they ended up together, could she properly control Steven and keep him as her loyal pursuer.
So the two of them hid not far from the restaurant, waiting for Steven to come out.
Steven ate for over an hour, happily patting his round belly.
The taste of the Michelin Three-Star meal was actually average, but for someone who had just been reborn from an apocalypse, it was a touching delicacy.
Next, he planned to go to a nearby supermarket to buy some supplies.
This was to test the storage capacity of the extradimensional space to avoid any future issues.
Although he was confident he could transport supplies from the Walmart warehouse, it was always better to be cautious.
Having experienced hunger, he couldn't allow any unexpected events.
Steven paid the bill happily and walked out of the restaurant under the waitstaff's attentive smiles.
At that moment, a familiar voice sounded beside him.
"Steven, what a coincidence!"
Steven turned to see Alice and Ivy.
Alice reached up to tuck her hair behind her ear, deliberately exposing her slender neck and pinkish earlobes.
Steven sneered inwardly; this was a classic move of a scheming person.
She wanted to make Steven fall for her inadvertently.
Alice, a top-tier scheming person and hypocrite, naturally knew this well.
But unfortunately, the current Steven was no longer her naive, loyal pursuer.
Not long ago, this woman had caused his death, leading to a miserable end.
She even wanted to break Steven's ribs to make soup!
Thinking of this, Steven's gaze suddenly turned cold, filled with killing intent.
After all, the apocalypse was coming soon. There would be no problem even if he killed her.
Should he kill her now?
Alice felt a chill under Steven's gaze and nervously said, "Steven... what's wrong with you?"
Steven quickly retracted his gaze and said indifferently, "Nothing, I mistook you for someone else."
He suddenly changed his mind.
If this woman died just like that, wouldn't it be too easy for her?
Moreover, if he killed her now, he would likely not escape legal consequences.
Steven didn't want to be in prison when the apocalypse came.
It would be better to let her experience the despair of the apocalypse first, and then he could use his methods to play her to death.
Steven had plenty of time to prepare.
With his memories from before his rebirth, he had a hundred ways to make her die painfully.
So for now, there was no need to kill her so quickly.
The most important thing now was to build the safest shelter, ensuring he could live safely and comfortably in the apocalypse.
