Chapter 8 Killing Elysium

The slumbering colossus of stone, Elysium, was suddenly struck by Eric's attacks. Though the damage was minor, it startled Elysium awake.

Elysium, abruptly roused from its slumber, roared in fury, shaking the entire cave. "Tiny human, I will crush you!" it bellowed, striding towards Eric.

Eric didn't give Elysium any chance to retaliate. He quickly pulled out exploding berries and threw them on the path ahead of Elysium.

The colossus of stone's speed had always been a weakness, even for special elites. Although Elysium was larger, had stronger attacks, more tactics, and slightly faster movement and attack speeds than regular colossi, the exploding berries slowed it down to a crawl.

With 16 agility points, Eric moved and attacked swiftly, circling behind Elysium to launch a fierce attack. A series of damage indicators appeared on Elysium's head:

-2, -2, -2, -2...

Then came a slashing blow, causing 6 points of damage.

Elysium's defense was remarkable. Even after the damage amplification from Thunderbolt, a level 2 slash only caused 6 points of damage. If it were a level 1 slash, it might have only caused 4 points of damage.

After a series of attacks, Elysium finally turned around, lifted its massive foot like a small mountain, and stomped heavily toward Eric.

As a reincarnator, Eric had experienced countless battles in Divine Realms: Legends. Facing Elysium, he remained calm, swiftly dodging Elysium's slow attacks and launching a furious assault.

After 5 seconds passed, Elysium's health was restored by 18 points, leaving it with 886 points of health, nullifying Eric's efforts.

Compared to regular monsters, elite and above monsters recovered 2% of their health every 5 seconds. With 900 health points, Elysium could directly recover 18 points of health in 5 seconds, surpassing Eric's regular damage output.

Despite this, Eric remained composed, relentlessly chipping away at Elysium's health.

If an ordinary player saw the health and recovery rate, they might have given up. However, Eric, with 16 agility, could easily dodge attacks, and his swift attack speed could offset Elysium's health recovery. It just took a lot of time to defeat Elysium.

Eric had to keep dodging and attacking relentlessly, which could be tedious and exhausting due to the high-intensity combat.

Time passed, and Elysium's health steadily decreased.

After 15 seconds of combat, the damage amplification effect from Thunderbolt dissipated, causing Eric's damage output to plummet. Each strike only caused 1 point of damage, and the slash could only take away 4 points of health, putting Eric in a tough spot.

Another 5 seconds passed, and Elysium regained 18 points of health.

During these 5 seconds, Eric only managed to deal 17 points of damage, slower than Elysium's recovery rate.

Furrowing his brow, Eric realized how challenging it was to defeat Elysium without significant damage output.

Should he give up?

Just as Eric was contemplating this, Elysium bellowed, "I will crush you!" and stomped the ground.

The cave trembled as sharp stalactites fell from above, covering the entire cave.

Realizing the danger, Eric quickly retreated from Elysium, dodging the falling stalactites.

The relentless downpour of stalactites was numerous and fast. In a cramped space like this, dodging would be impossible for a team, leading to certain annihilation. If Eric wasn't agile and the space wasn't spacious, he would struggle to avoid the falling rocks.

After Elysium's skill activation, signs of fatigue showed. Seeing an opportunity, Eric charged forward.

Thunderbolt!

Slash!

Thunderbolt instantly inflicted terrifying damage.

Fatigue was a period of weakness for some mini-bosses after using a big skill, where both their attack and defense significantly decreased.

With Elysium in a state of fatigue, Eric saw a chance to slay it.

Seizing this opportunity, Eric's attacks became even more frenzied.

-4, -4, -4...

During Elysium's weakened state and increased damage output, Eric could take away 4 points of health with each strike.

While in a state of fatigue, Elysium's health recovery rate also dropped to 1%.

In this back-and-forth battle, Eric managed to chip away at 15% of Elysium's health during one round of fatigue.

The following battle was about perseverance. Eric continued to attack to counter Elysium's recovery. Every 30 seconds, Thunderbolt would provide a burst of damage, followed by waiting for Elysium's big move, which was terrifying for a team but an opportunity for Eric.

Indeed, at regular intervals, Elysium would unleash its big move, allowing Eric to chip away at another 16% of its health.

As time passed, 5 exploding berries were used, and Elysium's health was at 32%.

After Elysium made its big move again, Eric managed to take away another 16% of its health, leaving Elysium with only 16% of its health.

Just as Elysium's health dropped to 15%, it underwent a transformation.

Elysium's massive body began to shrink, reducing its attack and defense but increasing its attack speed and movement speed, putting Eric at a disadvantage.

Although the effects of exploding berries were still active, Elysium's faster attacks almost hit Eric.

Even with reduced attack power, a level 2 Eric couldn't withstand a single blow from Elysium. If hit, it would be game over for him, resulting in a level drop to 1 and a substantial decrease in skill proficiency. This was not something Eric wanted to experience.

"Gotta go all out!" Eric's eyes gleamed with determination as he activated the Gravity Liberation skill, making dodging effortless.

For a special elite with only 15% health remaining, giving up was impossible.

Eric continued to relentlessly attack Elysium from all sides.

Each strike took away 3 points of damage, slowly reducing Elysium's health.

14%... 10%... 9%... 8%... 5%...

As the time for Gravity Liberation dwindled, with only 7 seconds left and Elysium at 5% health, Eric had to act quickly. Once Gravity Liberation ended, he would be vulnerable to a fatal blow from Elysium.

With his eyes bloodshot, Eric's sword strikes became faster.

As Elysium's health neared 10 points, Gravity Liberation ended.

Eric's speed suddenly decreased, but just as Elysium raised its massive fist to strike him down with a mocking smile, Thunderbolt's cooldown ended.

Thunderbolt!

In a swift motion, Eric unleashed three lightning strikes that pierced through Elysium's body.

-4, -5, -6.

Taking away the final 10 points of Elysium's health.

With a resounding crash, Elysium crumbled into a pile of rubble.

System: [Player Kai Blackthorn defeated the special elite Elysium, gaining a 400% experience boost and earning 940 experience points.]

Suddenly, Eric's experience bar surged by 27%, bringing him one step closer to level 3.

Having defeated Elysium, Eric rummaged through the rubble.

The loot from a special elite exceeded that of a regular elite, yielding an equipment piece, a skill book, and 16 copper coins.

"Challenging higher-level opponents brings better rewards. To think I got a Bronze-tier Large Shield drop, it's definitely worth a high price. If only I could farm this more." Eric examined the shield in his hand, envisioning guilds willing to pay a hefty sum for it.

The Bronze-tier Large Shield named Rock Iron Great Shield, Bronze Level, requires eight strength, equipment level 5, defense +21, defense rate 23%, strength +2, endurance +4, and +30 health.

With such attributes, it was a rare find, significantly boosting defense and health by 110 points, making it suitable for a level 5 warrior class, providing ample protection against bosses up to level 5, and even potentially for level 8 dungeons.

The skill book was also valuable, containing the melee skill 'Parry,' a must-have for any melee class, particularly warriors. It was in high demand due to its life-saving capabilities, allowing one to block an attack from the front every 30 seconds.

Eric decided to learn the Parry skill, as it was essential for his survival, even though selling the shield with the skill book could fetch a better price.

After defeating Elysium, Eric continued his ascent.

The Bronze Large Shield was a mere trifle; the Mithril-tier Chest was the real treasure for wealth accumulation.

With less than a third of the way to the mountaintop, Eric had to be cautious as resting spots often harbored monsters. With only 4 exploding berries left, Eric had to carefully choose his path.

Half an hour later, advancing cautiously, Eric finally reached the mountaintop, shrouded in white mist with low visibility, limiting sight to a radius of 60 feet.

Having used up 4 exploding berries to defeat the colossus of stone, Eric would have to start over if he encountered another monster.

Just as Eric took a few steps forward, he vaguely saw several blurry figures ahead.

At that moment, the System issued an urgent alert, revealing a hidden mission called "Past Glory" in the Lost Land. All external communication was cut off, and Eric couldn't leave until the mission was completed.

"Damn, the Assassins lied." Eric cursed under his breath, realizing the Assassins had hidden some crucial information.

The situation at the mountaintop was completely different from what the Assassins had reported.
