Chapter 6

Selene

It's only been a few days since the banquet, and my indecent thoughts about my stepbrother have only gotten more persistent. To distract myself, I make plants to meet Makayla and Sam for dinner. Who knows when we'll get another chance to hang out, especially once our internships at LycCorp begin—Philip's global corporate empire.

LycCorp operates around the world, with many sectors. Makayla will work in legal, Sam in medical, and myself as a Werewolf Integration coordinator, aiding werewolves in assimilating into human society without exposing their true nature.

Arriving at the agreed-upon restaurant, I unexpectantly run into my stepbrother at the entrance. What the hell is he doing here? Avoiding his gaze, I slip inside, hoping he didn't see me.

Scanning the room, I spot Makayla and Sam in a booth near the kitchen. They wave me over, and I slide in beside Sam, who's wrapped in a cardigan and scarf. Despite being a werewolf, he's always cold. Even during orientation, in a hot, crowded room, he wore layers of clothing.

Maybe he should go get that checked out.

"That cold in here?" I ask him with a laugh.

Sam playfully scowls at me. "Yes. It is. I wish they'd crank up the heat or something," he grumbles.

"It's like seventy-five degrees in the middle of fall. I think all of the other customers would complain," Makayla points out, brushing her perfect, cinnamon-colored hair out of her face.

"Who, Kayla? You?" he retorts.

She smirks. "Yes. Especially me."

He scoffs and turns to me. "Selene, I'm shocked. You're five minutes late. Why is that?" he mock-chastises. He's referring to the way I always showed up at least thirty minutes early to orientation each day, beating everyone else.

To be fair, a lot of interns were coming from other packs.

"Traffic," I mutter. Actually I spent a few extra minutes into the shower relieving some sexual frustration, but there's no way I could ever admit that, especially to people I just met.

His eyes narrow as if he doesn't believe me. "Are you sure everything is okay?"

I nod once. I don't even want to mention that I just found out I have a stepbrother. The guilt and shame would be gnawing at me even more. I shouldn't want to bang my stepbrother so badly, but even my wolf desires him, making the constant pressure between my legs relentless.

I'm beginning to suspect that I'm nearing my heat cycle again. After we turn eighteen, she-wolves cycle every six months until they're marked by our mates. Since my mate rejected and never marked me, my heat cycle is here to stay.

Thanks, Zack. For both breaking my heart and leaving me to endure the red devil twice a year for the rest of my life.

After we order our food and drinks, we fall in casual conversation. "So, are you guys excited to start next week? I know we'll be working for separate sectors, but we can still meet up for lunch and hang out on the weekends," Makayla says with a grin.

I smile back. "I'm down for that!" I exclaim, just happy to have friends for once in my life.

Sam adjusts his glasses. "Sure. Just don't forget about me when you guys are climbing the corporate ladder," he teases. "Especially you, Selene. Aren't you Alpha Philip's only heir now that his son was exiled or something?"

I know I have a trust fund, but I highly doubt I could ever inherit his company. Even if he appears to hate his biological son.

My brows pinch together. "H-He was exiled?" I ask, surprised.

"That's what I heard. Kicked out of the pack for being a troublemaker in his teens. I heard he even killed someone," he says, lowering his voice as if we're not in a room full of both humans and werewolves that can easily hear what we're discussing.

Is that why he was sent to camp? Because he killed someone?

But who could he have killed?

Unless...

"You think he killed his mom?" Makayla asks the question before I get the chance to.

Sam shrugs. "Who knows. Could've just been a rumor passed around the other packs."

As we continue to eat, a million thoughts whirl in my mind about my mysterious stepbrother. I want to know more about him, but how? I don't want to be anywhere near him because I'm starting to worry I won't be able to control myself.

I grimace to myself. What the fuck is wrong with me? This is my stepbrother!

Just as we're about to finish our meals, Makayla's phone vibrates on the table. "Shit, my dad needs me to come home...something about a family meeting. I'll see you guys again soon."

"How about one more fun night out before we start our internships?" I propose.

"Oh yeah, we definitely should," Sam agrees.

Makayla grins and places two one-hundred dollar bills on the table before leaving. Sam and I linger a little longer, having one more rush-hour margarita. Being werewolves, we don't stay drunk for long. Depending on how much we've had, the alcohol could flush through our bloodstream in as little as ten minutes. That's why you'd never catch a werewolf with a DUI.

Leaving the restaurant, I'm startled to find that Phoenix is standing outside, leaning against a motorcycle...I'm guessing it's his motorcycle.

As if he couldn't get any hotter.

Our eyes only meet for a second, but it's enough to make my heart race.

"Holy shit, who's that?" Sam whispers as we pass him. "I'd seriously kill to look like him. I'm straight as a damn pencil, but I can admit when another guy is way more handsome than me."

I shrug, though I know exactly who he is.

My stepbrother, who I'm starting to think is fucking stalking me.

Avoiding further eye contact, Sam and I head our separate ways home.

Phoenix

I admit, I followed my sister to the Mexican restaurant out of concern. There's an innate urge in me, probably my wolf, that compels me to protect her from any potential danger.

As her friend expressed his envy towards me, she seemed to go out of her way to avoid me.

Interesting.

I wonder why that is. Is she ashamed that I'm her brother now, or maybe she feels guilty that she probably wants to fuck me. I bet it's the latter.

Since the day we met, I haven't been able to stop thinking about her. Each day, the desire to posses her grows stronger, and soon, I won't be able to resist.

She may act like a scared little wolf in my presence, but I can sense it. She wants me to sink my cock in her pussy just as badly as I need it. She doesn't need to worry her little mind, I'll be inside her as soon as I find the opportunity.

Later that night, Iying in bed, my raging boner becomes unbearable. As I reach into my boxers to relieve it, my phone interrupts me. It's Uncle Luke. If he's calling, it must be some good news.

"Unc, what is it?" I answer, though my voice sounds slightly strained.

"Alpha King Derek has disappeared. Something like this has never happened in werewolf history. I fear some serious shit is about to go down, and the Council is oblivious. This could be your father's doing, and you must act fast to find out what it is." Luke's voice is urgent.

My blood runs cold. If he killed my mom, there's a chance he could have orchestrated Uncle Derek's disappearance too.

I just need to prove it, and the best way to do that is to get close to him.

I prepare myself to speak to my asshole father and offer protective services.
