Chapter 4: Noella

Noella's POV

"Gift her with a standard furnished cabin, ten beautiful dresses, 20 pieces of gold and silver accessories, and a personal maid." Alpha Austin's calm voice, which sounded vivid, replayed in my mind as a smile took over my face.

I was lying on a large tree branch, staring at the beautiful sky that had lovely twinkle stars. I couldn't believe how my life changed with a snap of a finger.

For a while now, I have had peace of mind and less worry. This is only because news haven't gotten to the ears of my relatives.

As much as the Alpha has blessed me with extravagant fortune, I didn't fail to remind myself that he is my nemesis and his charm won't work on me.

The reminisce on the past event, how my beast savaged and derived pleasure on tasting the Alpha. I also wondered how he managed to tame my stubborn beast.

I heard some rustling sounds from behind, and I slowly turned only to see Mr. Frank standing behind me; he's a Gamma who works as security for my uncle. I jumped down from the branch energetically.

"Mr. Frank," I called in astonishment. Though he was part of the Abel family, he has never wronged me or treated me badly.

"You're here," he said with a sigh of relief.

"Are you alright?" I approached him, and we both sat on the wet grass.

"Yes, I just don't know when I'll stop this job," he said, furrowing his eyebrows.

"Did something happen in the mansion?" I asked anxiously in a soft tone.

"Is there an ordinary day in that mansion?" He smirked in mockery, and I couldn't withhold my disgusting laughter.

Noella, dear," he said after a short exhale, placing his hand on my knee. I turned to him.

"There are a lot of things you need to know, but each of them will unravel at the right time." He nodded shortly, letting out a weak smile.

We started hearing howls and running sounds within the bushes, and we stood up immediately.

"I think the Alpha just left the mansion," he said, turning back to me.

"The Alpha? In our mansion?" I asked in a confused and clueless state.

"Let's go home for now. Something big is about to happen." He tapped me softly on my shoulder and transformed into his wolf form. He ran speedily into the dark path.

"Something big?" I pondered, still confused, before taking the skeptic's step in the dark path. I don't like turning to my wolf form, as being human feels great.

I went back home, and as usual, Sara and Galvin asked me to prepare a midnight snack for them, which I did without complaint.

Almost all the guards and maids of the Abel family were fed up because of their monopolistic and wicked attitude towards servants.

I placed the snack on the center table in the amazing furnished living room; the family members were already sitting and discussing in a whispering tone. As I turned to leave, they cleared their throats obnoxiously; I guess they wanted my attention.

"We heard what the Alpha gave to you," my aunt first said.

"Sara is about to enter the university in the city; we need those gold and Noella that are in your possession," my uncle said in a curt tone.

"It's a gift. A gift that I got through doing what displeases me. How then can I give it to those who didn't work for it?" I mustered some courage and lifted my head off the ground.

Their faces held anger, despise, and dissatisfaction. It was too fearful and ugly for me to behold, so I returned my gaze to the ground.

"Is there something you do not understand?" my aunt asked, annoyingly shooting me a devious look.

"I understand." I stuttered sadly with my head bow. I had no choice but to give up, for I was at their mercy; there's no word I say or action I take that can save me.

I admitted defeat.

"And as for the mansion—" my aunt started and turned to her husband.

"The children will be staying there while we have this for ourselves." He nodded firmly without hearing from me, and I watched them in disdain.

There's only one reason I'm trying to be lenient with them, and that's because they're my only family; killing them won't be hard for me to do. They're so evil and heartless.

"Are you waiting for something?" Laura raised a brow, curling her lips in mockery.

They're acting all powerful because of my current bad state; I'm their senior by age and rank, and when my parents' were still alive, they gathered around me begging for favors; now the spoon has turned.

Nothing," I said, shaking my head in response.

"Then leave" Sara waved her hands at me. With bitterness boiling in my heart and nothing to do to change my story, I left the living room consumed by sadness and anger.

The morning dawned faster, and I couldn't get enough rest. My uncle and aunt took Sara to the city to enroll her in college.

I took out the dishes to wash at the back of the house, and I dived into washing the dishes they used last night and this morning. It was as if the whole town feasted in the mansion; the plates were piled up in three long rows.

I started hearing whispering voices at the other corner, and due to anxiety, I whipped my hands on my already dirty garment and went closer to where I was hearing the voice to listen.

"Do you think I'll believe her?"

They were three in number and supposed to be spreading the laundry, but instead, they engaged in gossip.

"But they invited the Alpha last night," another maid said.

"Do you want me to believe that the Alpha is her mate?" One of the maids said it in a high-pitched, unbelievable tone, and the rest struggled to shut their mouths.
