CHAPTER ONE

The relentless rain dropped against the windshield as Olivia Carter maneuvered her car through the busy street of the city, her eyes fixed on the building ahead, she intended to enter.

Her heart raced with fear and anticipation as she moved closer to the building , the headquarters of Lucas Moretti, the enigmatic and ruthless Mafia boss.

Olivia, an investigative journalist , had spent months digging into Moretti’s operation.

Tonight, she gathered enough evidence to expose the intricate web of corruption that had plagued the city. Inside her car, Olivia adjusted her disguise , a black leather jacket and dark sunglasses, trying to blend in with the shadows of the night.

She glanced at the envelope sitting at the passenger's seat , containing the evidence that could expose Lucas Moretti’s criminal empire.

As she approached the towering building , she stepped out of her car, just then a sleek black sedan swerved beside her, splashing dirty water on her.

Livid, Olivia gasped, only to see Lucas Moretti himself emerging from the sedan with effortless grace , Lucas exuded an aura of power and authority that sent shivers down Olivia's spine.

“You’re trespassing sweetheart”, Lucas said, his voice smooth , but there was a hint of steel beneath his calm exterior.

Ignoring the terror in her voice , Olivia swallowed hard, trying to compose herself, “I’m here to deliver a message”, She said , her voice barely above a whisper.

Lucas eyes bored into hers with an intensity that made her feel as though he could see straight through her disguise.

Just like a flash, the sedan doors burst open , and two burly men in dark suits emerged. Their eyes hidden behind sunglasses despite the rain and darkness of the night.

Olivia took a step backward, when she noticed the strange men, but it was too late for her to react, the men grabbed her roughly by her arms.

“Bring her in”, Lucas ordered, as he walked into his empire, with the men dragging Olivia behind him.

“Let me go!” ,Oliver shouted, struggling against their hold. Her voice echoed, but there was no one around her to hear.

“Keep quiet if you know, what's good for you” One of the men on face mask growled , his breath hot against her ear.

Olivia's heart pounded, as she was dragged through the building's imposing entrance, the heavy door slamming shut behind them.

They reached a set of double doors, intricately carved and imposing. One of the men knocked twice. A moment later the door swung open revealing a lavish office.

Lucas Moretti leaned on his massive desk, his hands tucked in his pockets, his presence commanding , exuding an aura of danger and authority.

“You’ve been a busy little bee Miss Carter '' , Lucas said , his dark eyes sharp and piercing locked into Oliver observing her with a predatory intensity.

Olivia straightened, summoning courage, “I have evidence that can bring you down Moretti”, She spat, holding on to the envelope.

Lucas' lips curled into a smirk, “Evidence means nothing if you are dead, Miss Carter”, he said, taking a seat on his chair, his tone dripping with malice.

Olivia felt a knot tied her stomach, but she tried to compose herself, not wanting to show her fears.

Stroking his fingers on his desk, he looked at Olivia, “But I have a proposition for you…Help me find a traitor in my rank and I might just let you live”.

Olivia's mind raced, she glanced around the room, noting the armed guards standing by the doors, their expression unreadable but alert. She knew it wasn't possible for her to escape, she turned her gaze to Lucas. “And if I refuse?” She challenged, trying to hide the tremor in her voice.

Lucas had a sly smile on his lips, his eyes glittering with amusement ,“then you’ll find out just how unpleasant my hospitality can be”, he said, his voice soft but menacing. “So, what will it be ,Miss Carter?”

At this point she knew she had no chance, the threat in Lucas' eyes was unmistakable, reluctantly she nodded, “I'll help you”, her voice steady despite her fear coursing through her veins.

Lucas leaned forward, “Good, my men will provide you with everything you need. But remember if you fail, there will be consequences”.

He snapped his fingers and the two men, who had captured Oliver, stepped forward once more.

“Take her to the guest quarters”,Lucas ordered, “Make sure she’s comfortable”.

As Olivia was led away, she couldn't shake the feeling of being watched. She was in the heart of her enemies , and one wrong move could cost her everything.

The men escorted her to a luxurious , well appointed room, the elegance doing little to mask the sense of imprisonment.

Olivia scanned the space, noting the laptop and files waiting for her on a polished mahogany desk.

The guards left without a word , the door closing with a final heavy thud, leaving Oliver alone in the room.

Sitting at the desk Olivia opened the first file. Her journalist instinct kicked in. Despite the gravity of her situation she felt determined to get to work, since she had agreed to help Lucas.

Looking around the room, her gaze met the window, suddenly a thought crossed her mind, could she escape?. She walked over to the window , her heart racing, it was still raining outside.

She carefully opened the window, glancing back to the door to make sure no one was watching, the cold night air hitting her face. She swung one leg over the windowsill, then the other, inching her way out.

Just as she was about to jump, “go on” , She heard the familiar voice of Lucas, his eyes dark with mixture of anger and amusement, leaning his back on the room door.

Olivia froze, caught halfway out the window.

“You can't escape here,” Lucas said, his voice calm but firm. She stepped closer ,his presence overwhelming, “Do you think you can just walk away”?

Olivia's heart sank , as she climbed back inside , closing the window behind her.

Lucas watched her intently , his gaze never wavering , “You’re in my world Olivia”, he said softly but with an edge of steel. “There's no way out, not until we find the traitor”.

Olivia felt foolish for thinking she could outsmart him so easily, “Fine”, she muttered, “But don't think I'm going to make it easy for you”.
