Chapter 4 Slap Her
The president's office was on the top floor.
Mary stepped out of the employee elevator and found the secretary's office empty.
It was her first time on the top floor, and she felt a bit uneasy.
But remembering that Matthew was still her legal husband, she gathered her courage and knocked on the president's office door.
"Come in."
Matthew's deep, cold voice came through the door.
Mary took a deep breath and pushed the door open.
Matthew was wearing gold-rimmed glasses, his sleeves slightly rolled up, showing off his strong forearms. He was sitting at the luxurious, spacious desk, his head bent as he signed documents.
Mary walked over and placed the documents on the desk.
She didn't speak or show any intention of leaving.
After a while, Matthew noticed her and finally lifted his head from the stack of documents.
Those usually affectionate eyes, hidden behind the slightly reflective lenses, were full of indifference.
"Anything else?"
Even when he spoke, he was sparing with his words.
Mary looked into his eyes and said softly, "I thought you called me up here alone because you had something else to say. Should I call you Mr. Montagu, or Matt?"
Matt was her nickname for Matthew.
Over the past year, Matthew would always have her call him that whenever he was emotional.
Matthew's lips curled into a wicked smile, and he casually tossed the expensive pen onto the desk.
"This is the company, I'm your boss, what do you think?"
Matthew's voice was so cold, it lacked any emotion.
Mary felt a bitter taste in her mouth and lowered her head, forcing a smile.
Matthew watched her face, his expression unchanged, and tapped his long fingers on the desk twice.
"Since you mentioned it, did you look at the divorce agreement from last night? If there are no objections, we'll go to court for the divorce tomorrow."
His voice was cold and indifferent.
Mary suddenly looked up, her eyes stubbornly red, "I told you, Matthew, I did nothing wrong, I won't divorce you!"
Matthew sneered, "I also said, whether we divorce or not is not up to you."
Before he finished speaking, the door to the president's office was pushed open from the outside.
The person who came in did not knock, but walked in directly, accidentally tripping on the carpet and falling into Matthew's arms.
"Careful!"
Matthew instinctively pulled her into his arms, his expression tense.
The woman steadied herself by holding onto his arm, her face lighting up with a smile, "Matthew, I'm here, surprised?"
Matthew said helplessly, "Didn't you say we were having lunch? Why are you here so early?"
The woman pouted and said coquettishly, "I missed you, so I came early to wait for you."
The two were so engrossed in each other that they didn't notice that Mary on the side couldn't bear it anymore.
These two were blatantly ignoring her, the legitimate wife!
It was only then that Mary understood what Jeff meant when he said Matthew had a girlfriend.
Mary stared at the woman's face, suddenly remembering that this was the woman she saw in the private room at the bar last night!
Because the lighting in the private room was too dim, she hadn't clearly seen the woman's features and therefore didn't recognize her immediately.
Laura Griffin apparently didn't recognize Mary either.
After steadying herself by holding onto Matthew's arm, she seemed to notice Mary for the first time and raised an eyebrow at her.
"Are you Matthew's new secretary? I'm a bit thirsty, can you get me a cup of coffee?"
Mary stood still, looking at Matthew.
He showed no intention of explaining.
Seeing that Mary didn't move, Laura got a bit angry, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. She then turned to Matthew, gently shaking his arm, seemingly trying to be flirtatious. "Matthew..."
Mary ignored their interaction, smiling as she took a step closer to them.
Suddenly, she raised her hand and, without warning, slapped Laura's delicate face.
