Chapter 6: She Slapped Matthew!
Mary thought hard for a long while. Finallyshe remembered that this girl had asked Matthew in the private room that day when he was going to get a divorce.
On the screen, this girl was holding Matthew's arm tightly.
Mary knew that Matthew was a clean freak. When Mary first took Matthew in, he had lost his memory, but some of his physical habits remained. As Matthew became more familiar with his surroundings, he began to tidy up Mary's house, making every nook and cranny spotless.
Sometimes, Matthew exuded a certain air that ordinary people did not have.
And now, Matthew allowed that girl to hold his arm, their posture intimate.
Was Matthew telling her that even if he didn't get a divorce, he would continue seeing that girl?
Mary tightly clutched the hem of her clothes, her heart aching with a sharp pain, her eyes stinging badly.
How could Matthew be so heartless?
He gave the necklace Mary had picked out to another woman!
Mary took out her phone and dialed Matthew's number, but as soon as the call was connected, he hung up. Mary gritted her teeth and rang again. Finally, Matthew picked up the phone, "What do you want?"
Matthew's tone was very indifferent.
Mary tightly gripped her phone. The call was through , but she couldn't bring herself to ask the questions she had.
Matthew's heart was with that girl. Would questioning him do any good?
"I'm not feeling well," Mary said impulsively, her voice muffled. She hung up after speaking.
Mary clutched her phone, staring at the time.
If it had been earlier, Matthew would have returned as soon as he heard she was unwell.
The time passed, but there was still no sound at the door. Mary closed her eyes in disappointment. Matthew really didn't care about her anymore.
Mary curled up on the couch, like a small wounded animal licking its wounds, and hugged herself tightly.
Would this make her heart hurt less?
Mary drifted off to sleep, feeling like she was being carried.
Mary was startled and quickly opened her eyes. She saw Matthew's handsome, stern face, and her tears suddenly fell.
"Matthew, you're back?"
Matthew carried her into the bedroom and laid her on the bed. He stared at her tears and raised his hand to wipe them away, but resisted the impulse.
"Mary, you tricked me into coming back, but you still won't agree to a divorce. What exactly do you want?"
Matthew irritably tugged at his tie. He was still wearing the suit Mary had seen him in on TV.
Mary was momentarily stunned; his tone was so cold, completely different from the gentleness he had just held for her.
Mary sniffled, "Are you still my Matthew? My Matthew wouldn't treat me like this. He loves me; he wouldn't fall out of love!"
In the last sentence, she practically shouted!
She was so sad, so hurt, and so desperate!
Matthew had suddenly changed his heart; he seemed to be a different person. How could she accept that?
Matthew grabbed Mary's wrist, looking at her. A trace of pity flashed in his eyes.
After a long moment he let go of her wrist, his tone still cold, "Mary, watch yourself."
Mary staggered; her face suddenly changed!
She raised her hand and slapped Matthew hard!
