Chapter 3- Born Ready

For a minute my grandpa just watched me unblinking that I began to worry that he might have gone into shock.

“ Are you aware of what you're asking me to do? I already have a lot of people against my decision of making your mother the CEO. What do you think they'll say when I tell them it's you?” He asked.

“ Grandpa, we're both aware that there are a lot of people who are out there waiting for the perfect opportunity to take away your company from you, you know the right thing to do grandpa. I know uncle Garry wants this position so bad but we both know you can't trust him, so would you listen to what people would say or would you do the right thing?” I asked.

He looked deep in thought like he was considering my suggestion.

I wanted the best for my family and I knew that if I didn't take the position as the CEO people like uncle Garry would seize the opportunity to fight for the position.

I know that if my grandpa should put anyone else in that position as an acting CEO they'll kill my mom so she doesn't stand as a threat to them.

But me, they dare not.

They can't kill me. They killed my Dad, they think I'm stupid not to figure it out and I know the killer is still very close. He just died without any illness and everyone just forgot about it but not my grandpa and Mom.

I could see the pain in their eyes.

My father was about to be made the CEO before he died, my grandpa decided to use work to hide his pain and instead of retiring a year earlier he chose to work until he decided that he wanted to hand the company over to my mom.

They are against my Mom being the new CEO, they say she's not part of the family because she just married my Dad and they think it doesn't make her part of the family. If that isn't enough sign of hate.

But to my grandpa she was his daughter.

“ I'll think about this Ariana, by the weekend I'll have my answer, you'll know when I call for a board meeting," He said and I smiled.

“ Thank you for listening to me grandpa," I said as I got up and walked him. I kissed him on both cheeks before walking out of his study.

Let everyone who has a hand in my dad's death be ready for me because I'm going to tear them one by one.

I walked back to my mom's room to see that she was already asleep.

I sat on the bed as I just watched her.

I'm going to protect her, she's all I have left. They succeeded in taking my Dad and I know they're plotting against my Mom too.

I wasn't in the country when my Dad died but now I'm here for my mom, I won't let anything happen to her, not on my watch.

I walked out of her room and quietly closed the door.

“ Agnes," I called for my mom's maid.

“ Yes Miss Miller," She said as she quickly rushed to me.

“ Why hasn't my mom been taking her medications?" I asked with a hard face, her job was to take care of my mom but so far she hadn't been doing that.

" I'm—" I stopped her before she could say anything further. I do not tolerate tardiness and irresponsibility.

“ If you can't do your job you can tell me so I could get someone more competent to do it,” I said and her face instantly filled with panic that I might fire her. I was actually considering the option since she was useless.

“ The next time the doctor complains about my mom not taking her meds, know that it will be the last time you'll work here," I said in warning.

“ Yes ma," She said with her head down.

“ Get out of my sight,” I said and she didn't need to be told twice she scurried away.

I wasn't going to tolerate any shit from anyone, not like I ever did.

HARDIN'S POV

“ So he asked you to work as his daughter's assistant?” Vera asked and I nodded. We were having lunch at one of our favorite cafes not too far from the office.

" Wow and he asked you to sign a new contract?" She asked.

“ Yeah, the contract says I can't quit no matter what," I said as I bit into the burger I was holding.

“ And you signed it?” She asked and I nodded.

" You didn't see anything fishy with that?" She asked.

“ Vera you're asking me a lot of questions, we're here to eat so let's eat." I said as I stole one of her fries and she hit my hand.

I didn't see anything wrong with signing the contract, Mrs Miller wasn't a troublesome person so I could definitely work with her, we've talked on several occasions and she sounded like an easy going person.

And if I could work with Mr. Miller I don't see a reason why I wouldn't be able to work with her.

She will be officially announced as the CEO on Monday and I look forward to working with her.

Hopefully everything works out as planned.
