Chapter 2 Got Married for No Reason

Captain Joah Hotch had given Luna a field mission. The suspect was supposed to show up to register for marriage today. The team figured he might use this as a chance to meet an accomplice, so they had Luna and a male colleague pretend to be a couple getting married to keep an eye on him.

But right after they faked the marriage registration, her partner started dragging his feet.

To avoid making the suspect suspicious, Luna, even though she was super shy, clung to her partner's arm.

"The suspect's right next to us. If we don't nail this today, Mr. Hotch is gonna be all over us." As she whispered, she turned her gaze towards a bald man not far away.

Charles Lee glared at Luna's arm, wanting to pull away, but her grip was surprisingly strong. "I don't care what you're up to, but this marriage ends today."

He practically growled the words. He was convinced Luna was after his money.

He thought, 'Does she really think marrying me will make her rich?'

As the president of the Lee Group, Charles was already being pressured by his mom to get married, and now he had even mistaken the person.

If this got out, it would be a huge embarrassment.

Luna's phone buzzed with a text; it was Joah's special ringtone.

Joah: [Officer Arnold is in position. Head to the marriage registration area now.]

'Arnold Zimmer? Isn't my partner named Charles? How did it become Arnold?' Luna was momentarily confused.

She looked down and asked softly, "Sir, were you sent by Mr. Hotch?"

Charles frowned, 'Who's Mr. Hotch? Is he the mastermind behind this?'

He had no idea where they got their info and sent Luna to marry him.

"Aren't you here for a mission?" Luna asked, seeing Charles's confused expression.

Charles was losing his patience, but Luna kept going.

"Don't tell me you're a cop on a mission?" Charles narrowed his eyes, giving her a cold look, and sized her up before speaking again, "You? A cop? You can't even find your own partner, and you're so clueless."

At this point, Luna realized it was all a misunderstanding.

She was too nervous on her first mission and had mistaken the person.

Luckily, the commotion didn't spread, and the suspect was already planning to leave.

Luna let go of Charles's arm and hid to call Joah back.

Watching the bald man leave, she finally breathed a sigh of relief, thankful that today's mission wasn't blown.

Charles stood aside, watching Luna's frantic actions, convinced his suspicions were right.

There had to be a scam gang behind Luna.

Now that the plan was exposed, they were just trying to salvage the situation.

He had seen too many of these schemes in his years in business.

But then Luna said to him, "Sir, I want a divorce."

Great, was this a strategy to advance by retreating?

Charles coldly replied, "Me too."

Luna left her phone number with him, agreeing to finalize the divorce in a month.

As a cop, getting married required knowing the spouse's background to avoid potential risks.

She should have reported her private marriage to her superiors for a background check.

But Luna thought that since she and Charles would divorce in a month, no one would know, so there was no need to report it.

Two thoughts converged in her mind.

Luna was just an intern cop, working in a miscellaneous department of the police force. She was lucky to be seconded to the Criminal Division to help, and she cherished this opportunity, striving to do well.

The mission just now went well, and Joah even praised her.
