Chapter 5

Ashton

-Moon Walker Pack-

When approaching the Moon Walker Pack, I couldn’t help but feel nervous. Knowing there was a slight chance that I could possibly find my mate weighed heavily on my mind.

‘Why are you so worried?' grumbles Xavier, not sure why I was so nervous when I should be excited for it.

‘Because… What if it’s not Elise? What if it’s some other wolf? Could we really be okay with it?’ I ask him back wanting to know.

‘Idiot, instead of worrying why not just embrace it? The Moon Goddess pairs us with who she thinks will complete us, not by who we want for a mate’ remarks Xavier, causing me to roll my eyes.

‘Whatever’ I grumble back to him, my eyes watching as we pull into the entrance of the pack, my first impression of it being that of a campground.

“Talk about lack of care” remarks Isaac as he moves to look around as well. As Isaac, I and my brother Damian were in one of the Black SUVs while Alister and Raya drove in the other one for should we find our mates we would need the room for all of us to go back in.

“Lack of care or just plain lack of?” comments Damian, having seen the way the pack looked as well.

Trying hard not to snicker, my eyes moved to spot more Black SUVs the closer we got to the packhouse. The Packhouse is an eye sore just by the way it looked compared to others that I’ve seen during my random visits to other packs.

‘Looks like the Mystic Shadow Pack is already here along with the Dark Moon Pack’ remarks Xavier, noticing the vehicles that were parked from behind my eyes.

“Look like so, Looks like the Crimson Shadow and Shadow Pack are both here as well’ I comment, for the Crimson Shadow Pack was always trying to outdo our pack as Alpha Ethan was super competitive with Isaac since leaving the Alpha Academy.

“Don’t look now Isaac, but Ethan is here” replies Damian just as we move to park the car, Isaac groaning slightly, a smile on his lips as we chuckle.

“Great” laughs Isaac, just as we park. Each of us eventually moved to step out before heading towards the entrance of the Packhouse. The Beta of Moon Walker there to greet us as we did.

“Hello, and Welcome to the Moon Walker Pack, I am Beta Collin. To whom do we owe the pleasure of greeting this evening?” asks Beta Collin to the group before him.

“Alpha Isaac Grant, Alpha of the Midnight Pack. I brought my Beta’s, Ashton and his brother Damian along with my Gamma and Delta, Alistair and Raya.”

Looking towards his list of names, Beta Collin can only nod in approval. “Wonderful, please write this way please. Your suite is ready and waiting for your arrival” smiles the Beta, as he signals for another Omega to lead the group to their room.

‘I don’t trust him’ growls Xavier, who didn’t like the Beta of the pack.

‘Why?’ I ask him, only to pause as an unfamiliar scent catches my attention. The scent of Caramel and Vanilla reached my nose causing me to purr.

‘Because, he seems shady’ was all Xavier says as he pauses to the scent catching his attention as well. The scent, although faint, had to be at least an hour or two old so the scent still lingered in the foyer area of the entrance. Eyes now searching around the area, I try to put a face to the scent only to come up short when I couldn’t, frowning as I try to figure it out.

‘Damn it’ I growled at Xavier.

‘Mate’ whispers Xavier, now sad we had missed our chance to meet her.

‘Relax, we still have the ball and dinner. We’ll find her’ I tell him, now wanting more than anything to see who the scent belonged to. Please be Elise, I silently plead, wanting it to be so bad.

Unaware that I had stopped moving, did Isaac move to place a hand gently along my shoulder. “Everything okay there?” asks Isaac, his eyes showing concern for his Beta.

“Yea, just thought I caught a whiff of my mates scent just now” I admit.

Grinning, he moves to smile before nodding his head. “That’s awesome news Ashton. But for now let’s get settled. Then we can explore around for a little, okay?” remarks Isaac, earning him a slight nod of the head.

“Okay, sure” and then, like so, do we move to continue forward, entering the Packhouse before moving to get settled within our assigned room.

-An Hour Later-

As soon as everyone is finally settled, do I decide to go and explore the pack we were currently visiting, deciding to see who had all managed to show up and who didn’t.

‘I wonder who all actually showed up to this?’ I muse too Xavier.

‘Beats me, you're asking the wrong wolf buddy, you should be asking Isaac. He’s your Alpha right now’ muses Xavier as if to make fun of me for not knowing these things until a familiar face passes me by.

“Cara? Is that you?” I call out to a girl with pale blue eyes and long white hair. Standing at 5’8, her body toned and fit it was hard to miss an athletic body like hers. With tribal tattoos decorating her skin, her otherwise flawless milky white skin looked perfect, as Cara was the only other female Alpha besides Elise to ever rule a pack.

“Ashton?” replies Cara, as she moves to greet the voice with a smile on her face. “OMG! I haven’t seen you since Alpha School. How’s your brother Damian? And Alpha Isaac?”

Smiling, I move to greet the young Alpha in return. “They're doing great. Isaac and Damian are both here along with me, Alistair and Raya.” I answer. “How’s Snow Moon?”

“Oh, you know, Cold. We’re not called Snow Moon for nothing you know, for if we didn’t have the occasional snow to grace our land, we wouldn’t be called Snow to begin with” chuckles Cara.

Chuckling at her pun, I move to nod in agreement. As the Snow Moon Pack came from a more colder climate than most of the other packs, hence why it was called Snow Moon, for at night you could see the beautiful night sky as well as an aurora borealis.

“Agreed. So who all came from Snow Moon?” I ask, curious.

“Mmm. Just me and my Beta. My Gamma has just found his mate and my Delta is expecting pups with her mate any time now” smiles Cara.

“That’s wonderful news Cara. What pack did your Gamma find his mate in?” I ask, suddenly finding myself curious for more.

Biting her lip, she pauses before speaking.

“She doesn’t come from a pack… She’s human. Brycen found her during one of our snow storms that had recently come through our lands” admits Cara, almost timidly about telling others about this.

“Was she okay?” I now ask, suddenly worried for the human as not ALL humans were deemed bad only people who actually wanted to hunt us down like Hunters were deemed bad as they hunted and killed for sport and for the sake of wiping us out.

“Yes, thankfully Brycen managed to find her, otherwise Mia would have frozen to death” remarks Cara in earnest.

Knowing I had to ask the million dollar question that was brewing deep inside of me, I moved to ask her anyway. “Does-Does she know about us, about you and your pack?” I softly ask, not wanting to draw unwanted attention to us.

Glancing quickly around us, she nods. “Yes… Brycen eventually told her. As being human brought many challenges and with her having a constant target on her back, Brycen thought it was best she knew for being fated to a wolf was a hard pill to swallow.”

“Target?” I now ask, slightly afraid for Cara and her pack.

“When… When Mia first joined our pack, she would get threatening letters. Not sure by who, but thankfully they’ve stopped for the time being” admits Cara sadly.

“And hopefully when I return with Karson, we can continue to look further into the matter. Our pack’s been going through alot lately.” adds Cara.

“Do you need any help? I’m sure Isaac or some other pack would be willing to help you” I say worriedly.

“Not yet. But I’ll call you should we need the help” smiles Cara, before deciding to part ways, having spent a good hour just talking and catching up with one another.

‘Man… I sure hope everything goes well for Cara… Sounds like she could use a break from everything' I chime to Xavier as we continue onward.

‘Couldn’t agree with you more. Hopefully things will settle down for her and she won’t need anyone’s help in the matter' adds Xavier as we continue on our way, knowing I had only about an hour or so left before I had to return to our room to get changed and ready. As dinner was being served right at 7 o'clock sharp and Isaac would kill me if I was late for it.
