4. THE DARK NIGHT

MURAD'S POV

Shrugging my coat from my arms, I sighed as I began to exit my cabin. Little lights illuminated the corners of the sleek black office as I walked towards the elevator. I have sent my uncle with the driver already. It became hard to breathe for me in anyone's presence, I just wanted to be alone.

Swiping my tongue over my lips as I pressed for the parking area where the Audi R8 was waiting for me. My favourite car, I would never know me if it wasn't for my uncle listing out my favourite cars. He even reminded me that I have a car collection of a total of thirty seven cars. Again, what illegal business am I doing to have that many cars only for me?

The elevator dinged stopping on the destination making me slowly walk to the only car resting on its place. I won't lie, but my choice is the best. Its sleek matt black exterior makes me want to drive it all night.

Climbing into the car, I softly caressed the steering wheel. I missed it, it feels so overwhelming to drive myself. God, I love this. The low rumble echoed in the silence as I roared the engine making my lips curl into a smile. Driving out of the car I saluted at the watched guard who saluted me back with his black barking behind. My eyes focused on the road as I fixed the gear racing against the wind. Slow raindrops hit the glass making me sigh. I don't know if I liked the rain earlier or not, but now I really do. The pitter patter sound calmed my jumping senses as I stopped the car and climbed out of it.

It was past eleven, there was an unsaid culture in the New Downtown of going to sleep. The city was always illuminated till ten. After ten, everyone closed their sources of incomes and went back to their families. Whereas I, I never went back to my family. They live in the West City and I am here in the New Downtown.

The cold rain drops hitting my face, they made me forget about my lingering loneliness. I let the wetness go into the depth of my body making my shirt stick to me like a second skin. Finding the bench,I sat on the feeling of the bliss of the rain as I closed my eyes with a sigh. I sensed someone nearing me making my muscles tense as I furrowed my eyebrows. The rain stopped hitting me, making my eyes snap open as I sighted a blurry woman standing over me with her umbrella.

I frowned, the girl got the whole road, yet she stopped in front of me?

“You want something?” I asked with my hands slowly. She seemed familiar but where, there there. She made me faint with her words.

I jerked to my full height, hastily pulling back her umbrella, making the rain hit me again. Pointing at her, I shook my hand as lip synced the words I wanted to say.

“I am sorry, if I startled you.” She spoke hesitantly, taking a step.

“Sorry, you should be. You know who I am?” I asked, furiously signing with my hand after I combed my hairs with my fingers.

“Who are you?” She questioned me taking steps back with sneaker cladded feet. Her messy hairs flying with the wind and goosebumps arised on my arms as I felt the cold wind hitting me.

“Who am I?” I wanted to yell, but my voice…

Jogging at her for answers I signed to her, “Why did you said, that we met earlier?”

She circled my car trying to hide behind it but I circled it around making her go run around my car.

“When I said that?” A frown marred on her features as she stopped thinking hard, tapping her chin with her index finger.

Gripping her arm, I pulled her into me startling her, making her struggle in my hold as my wet shirt came in contact with her beige silk shirt.

“Why?” I mouthed making her stop and stare at me with her almond eyes.

“On the station, I never said that. I said, ‘that we have never met before’.” She cleared up, confusing me.

“You sure?” I asked with my other hand, slowly loosening my grip on her arm.

“Yes.” She stepped back from me with sudden force as if she was electrocuted from me.

“Taliya,” someone called to her, making her turn back to the source.

“Haroon.” She ran back to the man who called her, he stood with his hood on his head nodding at her. Even the strange girl had someone who looked after her.

He opened the car door as she patted his shoulder making him nod his head with a small laugh. There's no point in staying here, everything around me screamed at me, ‘single’ in different languages. But, the committed one won't understand the bliss of leaving alone.

Climbing in my car, I ignited the engine making the low rumble hum in the car. Raking my hands through my wet hair, I turned on the heater as I drove according to the GPS set by my uncle. It guided me to a secluded place in the city where I stood proudly. The white lights illuminated on black matt wall. Was my life dark like the dark night?

I scratched my temple with a frown as I glanced up at my house. The huge iron gate pulled open as the guard saluted me, making me nod my head at him. Parking the car in the open garage, I climbed out, turning the engine off and jogging in the entrance only to get startled by a silhouette.

“Finally, you are back.”

The voice rumbled against the entrance making me drop my head with a soft smile.

“Why were you waiting for me?” I signed to Hashim uncle making me smile at him.

“Answer my question first.” He demanded softly walking into the house as the light illuminated in the living room.
