Chapter 2 Let's Get a Divorce
As usual, he was pretty indifferent.
Henry: [I'm still in Harmony City. If you need anything, contact Celeste Johnson.]
Grace called again, and this time Henry picked up. She quickly started, "Henry, it's about my dad..."
Henry cut her off, sounding a bit impatient. "Is it about money again? I've told you, if you need financial help, just reach out to Celeste."
Grace glanced at the TV screen, her face blank as the news played. [Henry, the president of Montague Pharmaceutical Group booked an entire amusement park for fireworks to make a woman smile.]
Under the dazzling fireworks, a young girl sat in a wheelchair, smiling sweetly, while Henry stood behind her, holding a phone and talking to Grace.
Grace sighed, and after a long pause, asked in a trembling voice, "Henry, where are you?"
Henry paused, clearly annoyed by her question, and replied curtly, "I'm still busy. If there's nothing else, I'll hang up. If you need anything, contact Celeste."
Unaware of her near-tearful tone and grievance, Henry looked down at the woman beside him with a surprisingly gentle gaze.
Grace's vision blurred. So, Henry could be this gentle. Just not to her.
Behind her, her stepmother Clara's voice came. "Did you get in touch with Henry? Grace, you must ask Henry for help."
Clara's words stopped because she also saw the scene on the TV screen.
After a moment of silence, Clara found her voice again. "He went to Harmony City again? Grace, think about it. When Henry was in a coma, Elodie Williams supposedly woke him up by playing the violin. But who can confirm it was really her playing and not someone else? And even if it was true, as his wife, why does he treat you this way?"
Clara became more agitated as she spoke, and thinking about the Windsor family's situation, she couldn't help but shed tears. "But Grace, we are in a very difficult situation now. No matter how much grievance you have, I hope you can endure it."
Grace clenched her fists, her nails digging into her flesh, but she didn't feel the pain.
Divorce Henry?
Grace wouldn't do that, not because she, as Mrs. Montague, didn't care, but because she didn't feel entitled to do so.
An unloved wife always felt her existence held little meaning!
Grace stared at the fireworks in the sky and remarked softly, "Such a grand display must have cost a fortune!"
Clara didn't grasp the implication behind Grace's words. Grace lowered her eyes and began dialing Celeste's number.
Calling late at night was impolite, but she had no choice because her father couldn't wait that long.
Having been by Henry's side for a considerable time, Celeste held a high status. Aware of Henry's indifference towards Grace, she responded to Grace's request with coldness and aggression.
"Mrs. Montague, you need to apply first and get Mr. Montague's signature to get the money."
"Just like the jewelry you're wearing, it needs to be registered before you can use it. Mrs. Montague, do you understand what I mean?" Celeste added.
Grace hung up the phone, her head bowed in silence. After a moment, she lifted her gaze to the wedding ring adorning her finger.
This was the only thing on her that didn't require Henry's approval or Celeste's registration. How pathetic it was to be Mrs. Montague!
Grace blinked in a daze and said softly, "Help me sell the wedding ring."
Clara was stunned. "Grace, are you crazy?"
Grace turned slowly in the desolate hall, the echoes of her footsteps resonating with loneliness in the late night. After a few strides, she halted and spoke softly yet firmly, "Clara, I'm not crazy. My mind is crystal clear! I've never been more lucid."
She contemplated divorcing Henry since the marriage was too unfair to her.
Furthermore, during Henry's coma, he was roused by Elodie's violin playing. Grace couldn't shake the feeling that there was a deeper layer to this event. The timing of Elodie waking Henry with the violin seemed far too coincidental, and numerous details simply didn't align.
However, Grace didn't understand why Henry adored Elodie so much. Was it because he truly loved Elodie?
She didn't know what Henry would think if he found out that it wasn't Elodie who saved him back then.
But none of this mattered to her. She wanted a divorce and to break free from this loveless marriage.
