Chapter 3

Calixto's POV

I saw fear in her eyes. She tries to hide it by smiling, but I can see her hiding the lie. I know she is not as perfect as she seems. She is weak no matter how hard she tries to fake everything I can see through her, and that is what pisses me off...the way she pretends...the way she fools everyone around her.

"I thought you would comfort me? Telling me everything will be okay and there is nothing I should be scared of, but here you are instilling fear in my heart,"

She tries to act tough while saying those words, but I can see her hands shaking in fear.

"I am not trying to scare you, Serafina. I am just telling the truth. Why? Are you expecting a fancy and extravagant life in the palace, ordering the servants around? You are expecting an easy life, but sorry to burst your bubbles, Serafina, you will not get that here. In this palace, you won't live as a queen but as one of my servants who will do all my bidding, do you understand? You will follow everything that I say without any question. I guess you won't have a hard time doing it since all your life, all you ever did was to please your father, right?"

I saw her fist clench. The fear in her eyes was replaced with rage. My words might have hit a spot for her to act this way.

"Why do you hate me, King Calixto? Did I do something wrong?"

I held her chin and made her look at me directly in the eyes. "You want to know why I hate you?" Her eyes were filled with anticipation. She was eager to hear what I was going to say. "You are fake. Everything about you is a lie, and I fucking hate it,"

I let go of her chin and stepped out of the room. I hate being around her. I hate being surrounded by people who wear a mask.

"King Calixto, we did everything we could to get some information from the servant, but she keeps on saying the same thing, that she does not know anything," my Beta Maximus reported.

I took a deep breath, getting frustrated in this situation. "I will ask her myself,"

Maximus guided me towards the interrogation room, and upon stepping inside, I saw Cressida tied to a chair. Her hair looked messy and pale as if she would pass out at any moment.

"King Calixto," she weakly bowed her head when our eyes met.

"Be honest with me, Cressida. You have no intention of killing my future, Luna, right?"

She nodded her head, and I saw tears fall from her eyes. "I don't intend to hurt Lady Serafina, King Calixto. Believe me, King Calixto, I won't dare to hurt your future Luna. I have so much respect with you. I will only take orders from you," she desperately pleaded as she looked at me with her eyes filled with pain and fear.

I stared at her intently and took a deep breath. "Untie her. Call a doctor to treat her and make sure she will stay rested until she is fully healed,"

Maximus immediately followed my order and removed the rope that tied Cressida to the chair.

"Thank you, King Calixto," Cressida uttered, filled with gratitude, as the guards escorted her out of the interrogation room.

"What if she is lying to you, King Calixto? What if Cressida is part of this?" Maximus asked, so I looked at him and gave him an assuring smile.

"We don't have any evidence to prove that she is part of this Maximus. We can't keep on torturing an innocent servant,"

"Is that your only reason, King Calixto?" he asked, looking at me with his eyes filled with doubt.

"What are you trying to say, Maximus?"

Maximus shook his head and looked at me apologetically. "Nothing King Calixto. Just ignore what I said,"

I was pissed, but instead of making this matter even more big, I decided to step out of the room.

"Continue your investigation, and don't stop until you finally find who is someone behind this,"

Maximus nodded and walked in the opposite direction, back to Serafina's room to find more evidence, while I walked on the other side, heading towards the infirmary.

"King Calixto," Cressida immediately greeted me as she saw me.

"Just lie on the bed. Don't make any unnecessary movement," I uttered when she was about to sit on the bed to greet me.

I sat on the chair beside her bed and gently reached for her hand, which was burned by acid. "Does it still hurt?" I asked as I looked at her eyes, trying to read what she truly felt.

A sad smile appear on her lips and even though she won't say anything I know that she is in deep pain.

"The doctor will be here in a few minutes, so for now, just stay in here and don't do anything,"

I was about to stand to leave when she held my wrist to stop me from leaving. "Lady Serafina, will you marry her?"

Her question took me aback. I fell silent, and I was lost for words at that moment. "I have to. If I want to keep my position, I need to marry her and have a child with her that will continue my bloodline,"

She tried to smile, but she did not successfully hide her pain. I saw tears forming in the corner of her eyes, and while looking at her, I could feel my heart breaking into pieces.

"Then what will happen to us? I will be your mistress forever?"

I let out a deep breath and gently held her face, caressing her cheeks as I tried to soothe her.

"I won't make you feel that way. My heart will always belong to you, Cressida. She may be my Luna, but you will always be my mate; she cannot change that. We have a bond much stronger than a marriage, and I won't let anyone break it,"

I smiled at her and saw the pain in her eyes slowly fade. I planted a soft kiss on her lips, but it was interrupted when I heard the sound of a broken glass, and upon turning my head, I saw Serafina standing before us. Her eyes widened as she looked at us.

"I-I'm sorry-" She was about to run away, but I stood up and held her arm to stop her from leaving.

"Where do you think you're going, Serafina?"

"I-I," she was still confused as if she had no idea how to answer my question.

"What did you see?"

I saw her chest move up and down as she took a few deep breaths. "Y-You kissed C-Cressida, and I-I heard y-you saying that C-Cressida is your m-mate...is it true King C-Calixto? You are m-mated to C-Cressida?"

Her eyes were filled with anticipation, eager to receive an answer. There is no point in hiding the truth. She will discover it anyway.

"Yes Serafina I am mated to Cressida. What will you do now?"
