Chapter One: A Chance Encounter
Davis pov
Sitting in my penthouse office as i looked out of the towering glass facade window of my company, the steele corporation headquarter, enjoying the view, the moving cars and people walking and some running. " The city's lights are very beautiful tonight" I said to myself.
I heard a knock on the door. " Come in" Rebecca Brooks, my trusted investigator walked in as her usual vibrant smile slowly subdued, holding a sleek tablet.
" These are the list of the people that applied for Emily's nanny, I have finalized just three interesting ladies" Rebecca said as she gave me the tablet to check.
"We have Mrs Sarah Lopez, she's a single mother of two grown up girls and she works at a bakery company, she's 42 years old"
I looked at her profile "okay go on" I said still looking at her profile and moving on to the next one.
"The next is Miss Olivia Rivers, she's twenty five years old, she lost her parents when she was only six, she does not have any relative, she was once an FBI agent" Rebecca said immediately.
I sighed, scrolling through her profile to see her credentials. I paused as I saw her image, her eyes, there's something about her eyes that caught my attention, even in the photo. They held a mix of warmth and something deeper and familiar, something I couldn’t quite place.
"Hmm, she looks....... interesting, her credentials are impressive." I murmured, almost to myself.
"The FBI are still not backing down, investigate more about her, i want to know every little details about her"
Rebecca raised an eyebrow. "I will do so sir, since she looks interesting, would you like to meet her" she asked
I nodded. "Set it up" Still looking at the file.

Across town, in a modest apartment, I was going over my briefing for what felt like the hundredth time. My FBI partner, Marcus Thompson, sat on the couch, a teasing grin on his face.
"Oh my God, I just got a text message from his secretary to meet Mr Davis at his house tomorrow morning for an interview" I said half smiling, thinking if i should be happy or nervous about it.
Marcus studied my face "Olivia, you just have to relax, You've got this," he said, tossing a file onto the coffee table. "Just remember, you’re a nanny, not an agent."
I shot him a look. "Easy for you to say. You’re not the one going undercover in a billionaire’s house"
Marcus chuckled. "True, but I'll be nearby if you need backup. You just... have to be careful, okay"
I nodded, taking a deep breath. I couldn’t afford to let her nerves show. Not now. Not with so much at stake.
The next day, I arrived at the Steele mansion and my heart could not stop pounding. The luxurious estate was a stark contrast to my usual surroundings. I was led by a muscular bodygaurd through a maze of opulent rooms to a colourful spacious playroom.
And there she sat on a bench, a bright-eyed girl with a mass of brown curled hair, playing with a set of colorful blocks. She looked up as I entered, her blue eyes shining with curiosity.
"Hi, I'm Olivia" she said, kneeling to Emily's level. "What's your name" I asked smiling.
"Emily" the little girl replied shyly, then smiled. "Do you want to play with me"
Olivia's heart softened. " Of course, I’d love to"
As we played for a while, the simplicity of the moment eased my nerves down.
"So, you might be my new nanny right " Emily said suddenly in a cute way as she watch me closely.
" Oh, yes I might become your new nanny and when that happens we will play with a lot of toys and have some fun together " I replied back to her.
"I would love that" she said with a brighter smile that melted my heart.
As I was engrossed in building a block tower with Emily that I didn’t notice Davis entering the room until I heard him say.
"Looks like you two are getting along pretty well" a thick voice said.
I looked up, startled and immediately stood up to take a closer look at him. Davis Steele is even more imposing in person. Tall and broad-shouldered, with piercing blue eyes that seemed to see right through me.
"Davis Steele" he introduced himself, extending a hand.
"I'm Olivia Rivers" I replied, shaking his hand firmly, hoping he didn’t notice the slight tremor in my grip.
Our eyes locked for a moment, an unspoken challenge passing between both of us. I felt a jolt of recognition, but I couldn’t place it.
"So, Olivia" Davis said, breaking the silence. "Tell me why you want to work here"
I took a deep breath, recalling my rehearsed lines. "I love children, and I believe I can make a positive impact on Emily’s life. Plus, your reputation as a businessman is very impressive. It would be an honor to be part of your household"
Davis watched me closely for a moment before nodding. "Very well then. When would you like to start working" he asked.
" I can start now, if you want me to" I said making sure I sounded polite.
" Alright, We’ll give it a trial period. Miss Rebecca Brooks here, will show you around"
As Rebecca led me through the house and to a room that was assigned for me, I couldn't shake the feeling that I was being watched.
I glanced back to see Davis standing by the playroom door, his gaze still fixed at me. I forced myself to smile and turned away, my heart racing again.
I'm here to uncover the truth about Davis Steele. But as I glanced at Emily, who was now waving at me with a bright smile, I realized my mission here is about to get a lot more complicated.
Later that evening, as i sat on my bed in the room I was assigned to, a sense of unease settled in me as I thought of Emily's innocent smile and Davis’s piercing gaze. The stakes had never felt this higher before.
Little did Olivia Rivers know, Davis had already begin his own investigation into her.
