Chapter Four: Unraveling Threads

Olivia POV

My heart skipped a beat when I turned to face Davis to see his piercing blue eyes fixed on me.

"I... I could not sleep. I took a walk to the garden to calm my mind" I stammered, trying to keep my voice steady.

He stepped closer, his gaze filled with a mix of curiosity and suspicion adding to his overwhelming presence. “In the middle of the night, Alone”

I forced a smile and looked away. “Yes, I find it calming.”

His eyes searched mine, and for a minute, I feared he could see right through me. “Very well then. You must be careful. It’s late, you can go.”

I nodded, feeling a wave of relief. “Thank you, Goodnight Davis.”

He smiled and said “Goodnight” in a tender voice.

I have never seen him smile like that, so I entered my room and took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves.

Davis POV

As I watched Olivia disappear into her room, my mind filled with questions. Her explanation was understandable, but something felt really off.

I returned to my study and called Rebecca. “I need you to double-check Olivia’s movements. There’s something she’s not telling us.”

Rebecca’s voice was firm. “I’ll get on it right away.”

Olivia POV

The next morning, I started my duties with Emily, trying to shake off the tension from my encounter with Davis.

Emily’s laughter was a welcome distraction, as I immersed myself in our activities, hoping to regain my focus.

As I was helping Emily with her drawing, Davis walked in, his presence filling the room. “Olivia, can you please join me in the study for a moment” Davis asked.

I nodded, my heart pounding. “Of course”

As I followed him to the study, I couldn’t shake the feeling of getting caught.

When we entered his study, he turned as his gaze is fixed on me and said. " Olivia, I have been thinking about last night and I'm a bit concerned about your well being"

I forced a smile. “I appreciate that, Davis. But I’m fine.”

He stepped closer, his eyes never leaving mine. “I don’t think you are. I think there’s something you’re hiding”

I tried to stay calm. “l'm sorry but, I don’t understand.”

He took a photograph on his table and showed me and I felt my sweat run down my spine. It was a photograph of Marcus, taken from a distance.

“Who is this man, Olivia, And why were you meeting him late at night” He asked watching me closely.

Panic run through me, but I forced myself to stay composed. “He’s a friend. I needed someone to talk to”

Davis’s eyes narrowed. “A friend you meet in secret, in the middle of the night”

Before I could say anything, Rebecca burst into the room looking pale. “Davis, we have a huge problem”

" You can see I'm in the middle of something, but tell me what is it” he asked, his eyes still fixed on me.

Rebecca handed him a file. “One of our offshore accounts has been compromised. The funds has been transferred to an unknown account”

Davis’s expression darkened as he glanced at the file. “How did this happen?”

Rebecca looked at me suspiciously. “We’re still investigating, but it appears that someone on the inside had access to do such thing except from you davis”

Davis’s gaze came back to me immediately, and I felt the ground shift beneath my feet. “Olivia, do you know anything about this”

As my heart starts beating fast, I shook my head. “No, I swear I don’t”

Davis stepped closer, his voice cold. “You better be telling the truth. Because if you’re not, I will find out.”

I nodded, unable to speak. As Davis and Rebecca continued their discussion, I silently slipped out of the study, confused by what was going on. This was more than I have expected. I have to find Marcus and figure out what was going on.

Davis POV

As Olivia left the room, I turned to Rebecca, my anger barely contained. “I want a full investigation. Find out who’s behind this”

Rebecca nodded. “I’m on it. Davis, I think Olivia might be behind all of this, she's definitely hiding something from us”

"I know and I will make sure I find out what she's hiding from me" i said as storms of emotions filled me.

When Rebecca left to investigate, I sat down on my chair, thinking. Olivia seemed nervous and calm when I confronted her. She has become a puzzle I am determined to solve. And I won't stop until I know what her true intentions would be.

Olivia POV

I found Marcus in the garden, pacing anxiously. “Marcus, you have just no idea of how I almost get caught today, Did you do anything stupid?”

His expression changed as he turned to me. “ Why, what happened?”

“Davis knows about our meeting last night. And one of his accounts has been hacked and now he thinks I'm involved.”

Marcus’s eyes widened. “That’s impossible. We were careful and I didn't do anything to his account.”

“We were not careful enough” I said as my voice begin to shake. “We need to find who ever is behind this and why he or she is framing me. And we need to do that fast.”

Marcus nodded, determination in his eyes. “i’ll figure that out, Olivia. Don't worry, just go back and act like you know nothing”

As I made my way to Emily's room, my thoughts drives me back to davis and I conversation, the look on his face when he said i was hiding something from him, and the angry and disappointment in his eyes when he asked if i know anything about what happened to his account.

I could not shake the feeling that I and Marcus are running out of time. I can't let davis find out about my true Identity and my intention as an FBI agent. Not when I haven't uncover what ever made him this wealthy.

The game had just begun, and the stakes are getting higher than anticipated. Marcus and I have to be more careful now.
