Chapter 2
Once Sonya reaches her room, she realizes she needs to take a shower before she can even lay down. Sonya gathers her clothes and heads into the bathroom. She strips and then steps into the hot water of the shower. She stands there for a few minutes wondering what the smell was when they were on their way to the packhouse. Sonya starts washing with her favorite body wash.
She dries off her body with her towel and then wraps it around her hair while she is getting dressed into some comfortable clothes to nap in. She has some black shorts with a white tank top on. She towel dries her hair and then brushes it out.
Sonya curls up under the covers of her bed and falls asleep almost as soon as her head hits the pillow. When Sonya wakes up, she grabs her phone to check the time only to realize she has been asleep for about four hours and it is after dinner time. When she goes to sit up, she finds her best friend Cam there with a tray of food for both of them.
“Have a good rest sleepy head.” Cam teases causing Sonya to jump slightly.
“Yes, I did. Thank you very much. You are the best friend a girl could ask for bringing me food.” Sonya gushes with a smirk on her face.
“Yeah, you know I take care of my girl. You snore really loud too by the way.” Cam adds nonchalantly while giggling.
“Whatever it’s not as loud as your snoring though.” She retorts. “How is your new man by the way?” Sonya asks.
“He is like a dream.” Cam said sounding in a dreamy daze. He continues, “Brent makes me feel like the only man in the world. I know we just found out we were mates but I swear I would follow him to the ends of the earth and back again.”
“Awe I’m so happy for you. I hope I find my mate at some point and we have a relationship like you.” Sonya adds sadly.
“You will. And who knows maybe yours will be even better.” Cam exclaims. “I know that you haven’t had the easiest time with dating. You just have to be patient. You start the new job downtown tomorrow and before long you’ll have an apartment and you’ll find your mate. Not to mention you are still super young.”
“I know you are right. I am just really excited but very nervous as well for this job. It’s everything I have worked for in school. This is why I took the extra college classes while I finished high school so I could jump into this job and work my way up. Starting as an executive assistant at 18 leads to a crazy amount of pressure. Alpha Jake looks intimidating too in all the pictures I’ve seen. And don’t even get me started on the stores I’ve heard about him at work. I’m hoping we get along at least enough that it doesn’t make my job horrible.”
“If anyone can put him in his place it’s you girl.” Cam laughs.
“Geez I hope so. You have more confidence in me than I do.”
“You can do this Sonya. Don’t doubt yourself.”
“I am going to miss seeing you every day when I move into the city.” Sonya says sadly.
“Knock it off. You know I will come see you all the time and maybe I’ll even move in with you if you get a big enough place. Of course, you know me though it has to be super fancy.” Cam adds with a loud laugh.
“You would do that for me?”
“Duh girl. I would even bring Brent with me & we would all be one big happy family.” They both hug and laugh.
“Thank you, best friend. I don’t know what I would do without you.” Sonya exclaims.
“You would be miserable and hungry best friend. Come on let’s eat.” Cam laughs.
They continue to talk and gossip while they eat in Sonya’s room for the next few hours. Sonya finally tells Cam she needs to get ready for bed so she is well rested for her first day. They bid each other good night and Cam wishes her luck for the following day.
“Text me as soon as you’re back tomorrow. I want to hear all about it.” Cam yells from down the hall as he walks backwards away from her.
“Of course. Talk to you tomorrow.” Sonya yells back.
Sonya slips back into her room and starts scrolling through social media as she lays on her bed. She gets up a little while later to make sure she has her outfit ready to go for the following morning. She sets an alarm on her phone and turns on her alarm clock.
Then she realizes she did not get the necklace or book back from her parents after their run. When she looks around to find a sweatshirt to slip on, she realizes they are both on a dresser in her room. Sonya sits down, pulls out the necklace, and puts it on. She feels a rush of energy when she puts it on but does not know what it was from.
‘Wahoo what was that?’ Sonya thinks to herself.
‘Must be nerves about the job starting tomorrow.’ Lola adds.
Sonya isn’t super tired yet so she figures she will read a little out of the book she got before laying back down. She opens the large heavy book to the table of contents looking at what is contained in the book. One subject jumps out to her, ‘legends of pendant powers’. She turns the pages to the chapter and starts reading through it. The chapter makes an indication to a pendant that is blessed by the moon goddess that sounds and looks a lot like the one she was given by the Alpha and Luna.
The legend says that whoever wears the pendant will be not only protected by the moon goddess but will be a guardian to the goddess. The legend goes on to state the guardian will be able to pull power, when necessary, from the goddess Selene herself. Sonya is very intrigued but assumes the legend is just that, a legend of folklore. After reading for another 30 minutes, she lays back down on her bed and falls asleep.
