Chapter 2

(Angel's POV)

Flashback

“Don't go there. My mum said it’s out of bounds.” I told a fifteen-year-old Hendrix who was bent on visiting my mom's basement.

He and his father had just moved into my mum’s apartment and were settling in.

My mom, Dennis, had noticed how much he stared at the basement and had warned him not to go there.

I knew better than to disobey my mum's command and I wanted him not to make the mistake too but he was determined to see what was in it.

According to him, basements denote mystery and he was one that solves mysteries. He probably thought it was one of his animations.

I reminded him that this was reality and not a cartoon where he was the superhero and my mum was the villain.

I knew when my mum locked off the basement; it was after she decided to become a new person and start her life afresh.

She had locked up everything that reminded her of her old self. Her love for gambling, smoking, and street fights.

When she had me, she realised she could no longer live that life as it could influence me negatively and I may end up like her.

She stopped as promised and decided to settle down with a widower, Traviv, who was Hendrix's dad.

“She doesn't have to know,” Hendrix whispered to me, showing me a bunch of keys that were glowing in the dark.

I recognized them as the basement keys.

“Fine. Suit yourself.” I told him, raising my hands in surrender.

With that, he started to climb down the stairs. I contemplated telling my mum but decided to wait back and hear the juicy stories of what was down there.

After what seemed like half an hour, I was growing impatient. I was quite tempted to go down myself and see what was taking his time.

It was then I heard a scream echoing from the basement. “Mum, mum!” I shouted. The piercing scream from the basement showed that he was in danger.

My mum and stepdad came rushing down the basement to rescue Hendrix.

They successfully brought him out of the basement after a long ten minutes.

He was covered in blood, I had almost thought he was dead.

It was a horrible day for us because we spent the rest of the day at the hospital.

It was even more horrible for Hendrix as he lost his ability to walk for over a month.

Turns out, one of my mum's heavy-weight bowling bats fell on his legs in the basement causing him to fall on some sharp objects. Well, that's what mum told me.

Ever since he fully recovered, he never talked about the incident. He was always tense and made sure to avoid the topic whenever I brought it up.

Knowing how mysterious my mum can be, I suspected that there was more to it than just a bowling bat. It had to be something dark.

The other injuries didn't take too long to heal, and thankfully, none of the sharp objects came close to his eyes.

Till now, the scars all over his back and his occasional limping reminds all of us about the horrendous incident.

In the present>>>

I took my eyes off Hendrix and his newly found female interest and rival and focused on the girls.

“Did you guys know we have a secret room at this health center?” Hande asked no one in particular.

I was shocked at the coincidence. There I was thinking about my own mum's secret room.

“What happens there?” Dilara asked her.

“What do you think?” She asked Dilara, who was the only one participating in the conversation.

“Drugs, sex and everything illegal?” Dilara answered.

“Yes, dear!” Hande shrieked.

“They host wild parties there and the whole hospital management is unaware.” She whispered.

“We should check it out tonight. It is always a blast.” She added.

Dilara nodded in agreement but Cylan rolled her eyes in disgust.

“I promise you might find fellow lesbians there too,” Hande told Cylan who just totally ignored her.

I couldn't help but smile at the awkward situation. I hope Hande learns to keep her mouth shut when it comes to sensitive comments.

“Can I borrow my sister for a second?” I heard a familiar voice behind me.

I watched as the girls salivated when they saw him.

“Can't you see I'm enjoying my meal and chatting with my friends?” I asked Hendrix.

He winked at them before hugging me from behind.

“Trust me.” He whispered into my ears, sending shivers down my spine.

Did he know the effect he had on me or was he doing all of these ignorantly?

“Fine.” I snapped, standing up and following him.

“We didn't get a name,” Dilara shouted.

“Now I know why she ended up here,” I muttered to myself.

“I'm Hendrix, dearies.” He told them, blowing them a kiss before leading me to the hallway.

“Angel, this place is damn boring.” He started as soon as we were out of hearing reach.

“By boring, you mean no party or girls to sleep with?” I asked him.

“You're the only one that gets me.” He answered, pecking my cheek.

“Get your filthy self off me.” I scolded him.

“It's not my fault you have super sexy soft skin.” He said, using his hands to trace my skin.

Goosebumps became visible and I was red with embarrassment.

“Stop fighting it.” He whispered into my ears.

“What about the girl you were talking to earlier? Haven't you guys figured out a way to fuck without the management seeing you?” I asked him.

“You mean Ava?” He asked.

“I guess so. The one you were talking to over there.” I responded, pointing at the spot they were.

“Oh, yes, that's Ava and no, we haven't found a good spot yet. Except…” He trailed off.

“Except what?” I asked him.

“I heard you people talking about a secret room party.” He stated.

“Shouldn't that sound scary to you? Seeing that you've had one encounter with a secret room before.” I told him, pointing at his legs.

He just smiled. “Help me get the details. I need the thrill again. Five years is a long time ago.” He responded and left.

I thought about it. He was right. The camp seemed boring and this secret room party was a way to overcome boredom.

What's the worst that could happen?
