Chapter 2: My Step Brothers.

Aurora’s Pov

I still can"t believe I"m in Maldives, attending my mother"s wedding to her new mate Alpha Keith of the Shadow Pack. It"s been a whirlwind few weeks, and I"m still trying to wrap my head around it all. My mother met him through when she went on a business trip, and before I knew it, they were engaged and planning a lavish wedding in paradise. I’ve never seen her so happy, so carefree, and I couldn’t bring myself to say no to her when she asked me to be there for her special day.

But when she told me it was an all-expenses-paid trip and we"d be staying in his family villa with a private beach, I couldn’t resist. I’ve never been one for luxury, but the thought of escaping my mundane routine and spending a week in a tropical paradise was too enticing to pass up. And maybe, just maybe, this rich new stepfather of mine could finally bring some stability and normalcy to my mother"s life. She"s been through so much, and I want to see her happy and at peace.

As I look around at the opulent decorations and the beaming faces of the wedding guests, I can"t help but feel a sense of hope. Maybe this is the start of something beautiful, something that will bring us all closer together. Little do I know, this is just the beginning of a journey that will change my life forever.

As the wedding reception winds down, I excuse myself and take a walk on the beach, feeling the warm sand between my toes and the cool ocean breeze in my hair. The sound of the waves and the distant music from the reception create a soothing melody that calms my mind.

I"m lost in thought, reflecting on the events of the day, when I spot a champagne bottle left behind by the wedding party. It"s half-full, and I can"t resist the temptation. I grab it and take a swig, feeling the bubbles fizz in my throat. I"m not much of a drinker, but tonight I need something to take the edge off.

The champagne is crisp and refreshing, and I take another sip, feeling the alcohol coursing through my veins. I close my eyes, letting the ocean air fill my lungs, and try to shake off the lingering doubts and worries that have been plaguing me. My mother"s happiness is all that matters, I remind myself. I just want her to be okay, to be loved and cherished. And if this new stepfather of mine can provide that, then so be it. I"ll support her, no matter what.

As I stand there, the champagne bottle still in my hand, I feel a sense of freedom wash over me. I"m alone, but I"m not lonely. The ocean and the night sky are my companions, and for a moment, everything feels right with the world.

As I walk further down the beach, the champagne starts to take effect, and I feel a little lightheaded. The stars above seem to blur and twinkle even brighter, and I stumble slightly, my foot sinking into the sand. That"s when I notice a strange man approaching me, his eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. I try to brush him off, but he won"t take no for an answer.

"Hey, sweetheart, what"s a pretty girl like you doing all alone on the beach?" he slurs, his voice sending shivers down my spine.

“I"m just taking a walk," I reply firmly, trying to sound confident. "Please leave me alone."

“Ah, come on, I"m just trying to be friendly," he says, taking a step closer. "What"s your name, beautiful?"

“I"m not interested in talking to you," I say, trying to sound firm but feeling a sense of unease.

“Aw, don"t be like that," he says, his voice dripping with condescension. "I"m just trying to show you a good time. You know, I have a boat out there," he says, gesturing to the sea. "I could take you out for a ride, show you some real fun."

“I"m not interested," I repeat, trying to sound firm but feeling a sense of panic.

“Come on, it"ll be fun, I promise," he says, his eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity. "You don"t want to be stuck on this boring beach all night, do you?"

As he takes another step closer, I try to step back, but my feet feel heavy, as if rooted to the spot. And then, in a flash, he reaches out and grabs my arm, his grip like a vice.

“Hey, let"s go for a walk," he sneers, trying to pull me towards the darkness.

“Leave me alone!" I try to struggle, but he"s too strong.

That"s when I see them – four figures emerging from the darkness, their faces stern and unyielding.

“Hey, buddy, I think you"ve had enough,” one says, his voice firm and authoritative.

The man turns to face them, his eyes narrowing in anger, but he doesn"t let go of my arm.

“Mind your own goddamn business,” he growls.

But the four figures don"t back down. “We"re making it our business,” another says, his eyes flashing with anger.

And with that, they move in, their movements swift and decisive. Another one grabs the man"s arm, twisting it until he yelps in pain, while the forth one and the second one pin him to the ground. The first one turns to me, his eyes softening.

“Are you okay?” he asks, his voice gentle.

I nod, still feeling shaken. “Y-yes, thanks to you guys."

The man mutters something under his breath and takes off running, disappearing into the darkness. I breathe a sigh of relief as I take a good look at the four figures

They"re all tall, with chiseled physiques that command attention. Their dark hair is styled perfectly, framing their chiseled faces and piercing eyes that seem to see right through me. One has eyes like the ocean on a clear summer day, a deep blue that"s both calming and intense.

Another has eyes like melted chocolate, warm and rich, with a hint of kindness. The third has eyes like emeralds in the sunlight, bright and sparkling, with a mischievous glint.

And the fourth has eyes like a cloudy night sky, deep and mysterious, with a hint of secrets untold. Their features are strong and defined, with sharp jawlines and sculpted cheekbones.

They have an air of confidence and authority about them, which is both intimidating and captivating. But as they smile, their warm, gentle gazes put me at ease, and I feel a sense of safety and protection in their presence.

“Are you really okay?" one of them asks again, his eyes scanning me from head to toe.

“Yeah, I"m fine." I reply, still feeling a bit shaky. “Thanks for stepping in."

“No problem." another one says. “We"re your stepbrothers, by the way. Alessandro, Leonardo, Gabriel, and Rafael."

I nod, trying to remember their names. “I"m Aurora.” I say, feeling a little shy. "Thanks again for stepping in back there."

“Yeah, no problem.” Leonardo adds, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “We"re just glad you"re okay."

But before I could feel truly comfortable, Alessandro stepped in with his cold voice, saying. “There’s no need to thank us, Aurora.

“You shouldn’t be wandering around a beach alone, getting people worried like that.” Alessandro began, his tone harsh and uncaring.

“It’s not like I….”

Before he could finish his thought, Leonardo cut him off, stepping in with a protective stance. “Aurora is family now, and we need to look out for each other.

Don’t be so hard on her.”

Alessandro glared at Leonardo, clearly unhappy about being interrupted, but he relented and directed his words to me. “Just be more careful next time. We don’t need any more trouble.”

Sensing the tension between my new stepbrothers, I sought to defuse the situation. “I appreciate your concern, Alessandro.” trying to sound sincere despite my discomfort. I’ll be more mindful in the future. Thank you for looking out for me.”

Alessandro’s expression remained stony, but he gave me a curt nod. Leonardo, on the other hand, appeared satisfied with my response, giving me a reassuring smile.

With the awkward moment passed, Gabriel spoke up. “We should probably head back to the Villa.” he suggested.

"I nod, feeling grateful for their protection and company. As we walk back to my room, Leonardo asks, "So, how"s your mom"s big day been so far?"

“It"s been amazing.” I reply. “I"m so happy to see her so happy.”

“That"s great to hear.” Leonardo says. “We"re glad we could be here to celebrate with her too.”

I nodded in agreement, trying to sound upbeat despite my apprehension. “I was a little nervous about coming here on my own, but you guys have made me feel really welcome.”

As I said these words, my gaze fell on Alessandro, who stood with his arms folded, his expression cold and unwelcoming.

“Of course, we"re family now!” Gabriel says with a smile. “We take care of our own.”

“What do you like to do in your free time?” Rafael asks, curiosity getting the better of him.

“I love reading, hiking, and trying out new recipes," I say, smiling. "I"m a bit of a foodie at heart."

"No way! We love cooking too!" Gabriel exclaims. "We should have a cook-off sometime and see who makes the best dish."

The group continued walking back to the villa, our conversation light and comfortable as if we had known each other for years.

I laughed as I replied. “I’d love to try cooking with you guys, but I’ve heard some pretty scary rumors about your skills in the kitchen. I might be in for some trouble if I let you take charge.”

A grin spread across Rafael’s face as he chuckled , a twinkle in his eye. “Nah, don’t believe everything you hear. We’re not that bad.”

"You"re really something, Aurora," Leonardo says, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "We"re glad you"re part of the family now."

We got to the front of my room door, and they said their good nights. As Alessandro spoke to me, his tone was cold and dismissive.

“Don’t go causing any more trouble Aurora.” he warned.

Leonardo tried to intervene, his voice gentle yet firm. “That’s enough, Alessandro.” he cautioned, but Alessandro remained unmoved. His gaze was hard and unyielding as he insisted. “I’m just telling it like it is. She needs to be careful, and you know I’m right.”

Leonardo stepped closer to Alessandro, his voice firm. “Alessandro, drop it. Aurora can take care of herself, and it’s not your place to speak to her that way. She’s family now, remember?”

Alessandro’s jaw tigthened, but he gave a curt nod in response. Leonardo shot him a look before turning back to me. “Ignore him, Aurora. “We’ll see you in the morning.”

With that, Leonardo and the others turned and headed back down the hall, leaving me to enter my room alone.

Stepping into the quiet sanctuary of my room, I closed the door behind me, seeking a moment of solitude. I sank onto the bed, inhaling deeply and allowing my thoughts to drift to my new found stepbrothers.

Despite Alessandro’s cold attitude, I couldn’t deny the ease with which Leonardo Gabriel, and Rafael had made me feel welcome. Leonardo’s warmth, Gabriel’s playful banter, and Rafael’s kind eyes. Each of them offered a unique aspect of family I had never experienced before.

My mind wandered to the moment on the beach, where they had stepped in to protect me. Perhaps, just maybe, this was exactly the family I had been yearning for.
