Chapter 6

Amanda Pov.

Something's going on with Ron, I'm sure of it. Usually when he drives me, he's more talkative. Now, instead, it seems to me that something is bothering him. He's lost in thought and grips that steering wheel so hard his fingers turn white.

-You know you can talk to me about anything, right? I ask, catching his attention for a second.

-I know. And you can talk to me about anything. That's what's beautiful about our relationship.

  • I know I can talk to you, but it seems to me that you are hiding something from me. You are too thoughtful. Are you…?

-What?

I bite my bottom lip thinking about the next question I want to ask because I've never had this conversation.

-Is it about a girl? I ask, trying to sound as confident as I can when I ask the question.

Ron looks back at me for a few seconds frowning at me, then shifts his attention back to his face.

-What do you mean?

  • I don't know... Maybe I'm curious if you go out with someone.

His laughter fills the car and now I'm the one scowling at him. Did I say something funny?

-Damn, Amanda... No, I'm not dating anyone right now. Why?

-I was just asking…

So he's not dating anyone…I'm curious as to why he doesn't want to date anyone, but if I asked him that too he might think I'm interested in him.

The car suddenly stops and I look out the window to figure out why we stopped, but I'm slightly disappointed to see that we've already arrived at college. I love spending time with Ron but it seems like we've both been a bit busy lately and the time we used to spend together is now limited.

I get out of the car after grabbing my bag from the back seats and to my surprise Ron gets out of the car. He stretches his arms towards me and a big smile crosses my face. Immediately I'm in his arms hugging him tight and he rests his cheek on top of my head.

  • I'm sorry if somehow I gave you the impression that I don't have time for you anymore. How about we go somewhere this weekend? He asks pulling back from the hug just enough to look me in the eyes but not breaking the hug.

My heart warms for this man because he is willing to give up his time to spend time with me.

-Are you sure about this? I ask him, because I don't want him to do this just for me.

-Very sure. For some time now the gang has been beating me on the head that we are not going anywhere, so I thought we should all go to grandpa's cabin.

  • Wow...

-Um...You will like it there enormously. It's in the heart of the forest.

-You don't need to say anything more. We will go.

-Ok... See you after classes?

I nod cheerfully then break the hug and head towards the entrance of the premises until I'm late for class.

I leave my project on the chair next to the other projects of my colleagues and then I sit in my seat quietly waiting for the teacher to appear.

After the classes are over, I quickly pack my things and then hurry to leave the school premises to get to Ron as quickly as possible.

I'm so glad he decided to go somewhere this weekend because I really needed a little escape from the hustle and bustle of the city and I needed to take my mind off Josh.

I broke up with him this morning when he came to talk. I couldn't listen to the nonsense he always said and thought he was smart. Besides, I couldn't accept the fact that he didn't really care about me at all. He just wanted to get into my panties, and I wasn't ready to take that step.

I don't know if and when I will be ready to take the big step but I know that Josh is not the right man to make me want that.

-Hello, Tim. where is Ron? I say as soon as I get to the car workshop.

-Hello, doll. Mr. Stallion left the workshop early saying he had something to attend to.

-Oh...Ok. Can I wait for him in the office?

  • After so many years since the three of us have known each other, I don't think you need to ask permission anymore. Make yourself at home, doll.

I give Tim a big smile and walk into Ron's office. I sit down on one of the armchairs and pull my phone out of my bag deciding to text Ron to find out where he went in such a hurry.

Me: I'm at the workshop. Everything is okay?

After sending the message, I put the phone away and look around the room that takes the place of the desk.

Ron deserves better than that. I think it's time to upgrade his office a bit.

The phone beeps that I received a message and I quickly open it.

Ron: I'll be right over. Everything is OK. I just had something to deal with.

I'm very curious what that "something" is, but I decide not to bother him with messages any more and wait for him quietly. If there was something, anything, he would tell me at the right moment without me having to extract any answer from him.

I pull volume three of Taboo Billionaires out of my bag and continue reading where I left off last time. Come to think of it, I think I'll pack a few books with me for this weekend. Just to kill time in case there are activities that I don't want to participate in.

-Sorry if you've been waiting for me for a long time. Ron says walking into the office and surprising me so that I drop the book out of my hand onto the floor.

  • It's ok... I was reading. Where have you been? I say picking up the book from the floor and opening it to the page I stopped reading to bookmark.

-I did some shopping for tonight. By the time we get to the cabin, we will most likely be hungry, and considering that no one has lived there for several years…

-What time do we start?

  • I thought we'd start somewhere around 20:00. That way you will also be able to spend time with your mother.

I don't know why, but my heart raced. Maybe it's because Ron always puts me first, or maybe I'm starting to have heart problems. The fact is that all I want at this moment is to hug him. And that's what I do. Without saying anything, I take him in my arms, taking him by surprise because I feel how he tenses up and then relaxes, hugging me too.
