CHAPTER 9 - The Rare Scent
I
Still, in his kingly manner, he sat at the middle of the open-roof, lifeboat and heaved a deep breath. He inhaled with gusto the sweet breeze and seawater scent while letting his wolf, clear eyes roam and adjust its sight into the darkness. Upon setting the engine to start, the lifeboat started to move gently with its low unsurprising sound. He begins his search for the brave Zeta, as his lifeboat swiftly moves around the Rogue island.
Sniffing the air, trying to locate the faint familiar scent that his sense of smell could reach, he followed the gentle wind.
The wind brought him beside a big rock, to his confusion. “What the hell am I doing besides this rock?” he muttered pissed off. “Did that smell mislead me?” he thought.
He checked around and then to his amazement he noticed a ray of light on the side of the big rock. Actually, it is in between two big rocks. His Alpha’s instinct told him to follow that ray of light.
While inside the safe house by the big rock, Andreitte is enjoying herself. She feels so serene, away from the world of lies, blood, and greed.
“If only I could just stay here, I might be even happier than to stay in that mini castle as the Alpha’s breeder,” she thought while lying on the bed, focusing her eyes on the dancing small light coming from the kerosene lamp.
A moment later, Andreitte’s nostrils twitches as a rare scent akin to an aromatic scent like cedarwood filled it and lingered down to her lungs. Her heart suddenly throbs like it was about to jump out of its rib cage. Her knees weakened as her hands become sweaty.
“What on earth is going on with me?” she murmured. A sudden fear surges through her but excites her inner self, her wolf. She alighted from the bed and with shaking knees come near the door and peep into its peephole. She swallowed hard. All she can see outside is still darkness but the rare scent seemed to be getting stronger.
Putting her hands above her bosom, she closed her eyes and strengthened more all her senses. A not-so-loud thud on the rock filled her ears and a rare scent was already overwhelming her. Slowly, she put her one eye into the peephole and check if there is someone coming.
With that fire that came from the kerosene lamp, a ray of light seemed to sneak out of the door. By that her sharp wolf’s eyes noticed a standing big frame outside of the door of the safety house. Definitely, not Alpha Branden or Gamma Rolden.
She remembered then what Gamma Rolden have told her before he left. Only he and Alpha Branden will come to fetch her after the fight, should there be a fight between the rogues and the troop of the Alpha King. Therefore, the man outside is not a part of Alpha Branden’s rogue pack.
Her heart now tumbles like her breath is trying to skip from her lungs and her wolf, Tetta is murmuring something. It was a murmur that came in her ears so clearly. “Mate.”
Shocked, Andreitte’s eyes grow big. There are only two groups of werewolves on this island, the Rogues Pack and the group of the Alpha King. Definitely, the man outside is not a rogue. He is from the group of the Alpha King.
“No! It could not be!” she thought wearily.

She then heard knocks on the door, then a baritone voice thereafter.
“Anybody home?” the man outside muttered.
Andreitte was rattled now, but Zeta as she is, she was able to calm herself and let her mind think of a way out. She walks in tiptoe not wanting to make any kind of sound until she reached the kitchen part, where she saw the gallon of water. She took the back door going to the fishing area, holding in her hand the gallon of water, which is almost empty and now tied to her waist
Slowly, she lowered herself on the water and thereafter started to swim at the far end side of the rogue’s land, the forest part.
Outside, the man cursed while hissing when he slowly lost the familiar scent that engulfed him a while ago.
“Gaddamit, that Zeta was able to escape again!” he murmured as he returned to his lifeboat and tried to follow again the gentle wind that is giving him even a faint smell of the Zeta.
With squinting eyes, the Alpha King grins wide as he noticed where the gentle wind is guiding him - the end part of the Rogues’ Island, the forest part.
“Wait for me there, Zeta. You cannot escape from me anymore this time,” he thought with an evil smile playing around his lips.
As he reached the edge of the seawater, he alighted from the lifeboat and his feet landed on the bay of the forest land. He pulled the lifeboat a little more until it was already on the land part. He tied its rope on the nearby tree before he left and walk towards the direction where the faint familiar smell is coming from.
He walks in a hurry, with an intense desire to finally catch the newly chosen Alpha's breeder and bring her back to where she belongs.
