Chapter 2: Karma POV

Before my mom died, she set up a trust account that gave me thirty thousand dollars a year. I usually make it stretch but with books for school and everyday living expenses and sometimes have to ask Aunt Jackie for some cash. I know it looks like my thirty-year-old ass does not get her shit together. Money-wise, not so much, but credit and asset-wise wise I am doing great. I have a trust fund, and my house is paid in full, which, by itself, is valued at five hundred and fifty thousand dollars. As is my car. Kelly's book value is ten thousand dollars. My assets are about a little over four million.

Since I inherited my mother half of the family business, that half goes into the trust account every month. Why does my trust only give me thirty thousand a year? Aunt Jackie said my mother did it to please my father. Let her tell it she will say that my father did not like that my mother was rich and made her money through prostitution. So, the thirty thousand dollars a year represents my father's salary when he and my mother married. I have asked Aunt Jackie many times to buy me out so that I can get a lump sum of money I need to start my business. But no, she said she would rather I take over than buy me out.

One might think thirty thousand a year tax free is good. And that I should be able to live on that. Yes, I know there are people in the United States that live on less than that. And I can, but I have bigger ambitions and bigger plans. I want to get out of the business of selling pleasure.

Why can't I take a lump sum out of my trust? Because my aunt Jackie is the executive of the trust. And she allowed me to take out a lump sum to pay for all of my education expenses. I kind of low-key, think she doesn't want me to have business or make money outside of our family business.

Finally, I am home. I love this place. The memories that are observed on the walls of this house fill my heart with joy. Boy, if these walls can talk the stories they will tell. I sat in my dad's old chair and thought about my parents. They truly loved each other. My mom used to work in the family business when she first met her dad. He fell for her the moment he saw her. He was working as a personal driver for some millionaire. However, that day he decided to go in and that's when he saw her singing "If You Ask Me To", he always said he felt like she was singing to him and only him.

After that, he would visit her as a client just to see her and get to know her. When she used to tell me the story she would smile hard. Dad would tell me he had to fight the urge to not have sex with her. Because he knew if he did have sex with her, he would just be another one of her clients. Dad was not a rich man at all. He said he worked eighty hours a week doing multiple jobs just to be able to afford to see her. But on Saturday nights he had the energy for her.

All the money we had came from mom. My parents loved each other so much that it did not bother Dad that Mom was the provider. However, she ran the business with Aunt Jackie but did not work the sex part of it once she and my dad got serious and that happened kind of quickly, according to Aunt Jackie. When I asked my mom, she said that she noticed dad never tried to touch her and always asked about her.

She knew he was into her more than a client should be, but she did not push it. Mom would say that at first, she thought that it was a guy who just wanted a woman's company and not sex. She said she did not realize she was falling for him too until he came early and saw her with a client and it made her feel bad to see the hurt on his face.

The next day, Mom told Aunt Jackie she would not work as a working girl but would stay on at an administration level. When Dad came looking for her Aunt Jackie just told him mom had quit and shut the door in his face. She knew dad was the reason why mom did what she did. Heartbroken Dad drove to a local bar. As he was going in, Mom was coming out. They bumped into each other. She explained everything to him and the rest is history until they were dead.

I wish they were here with me. Dad will probably tell me not to let those rich bastards get to me or make me feel uncomfortable. I decided to do some research on the company, it seems that the old CEO is retiring and his son is taking over. There are no pictures of his son anywhere online. Oh, well, I guess I will see him when I see him on Monday. I did some online shopping. Now all I have to do is pick up my clothes on Sunday. Which will give me time to straighten my hair out, which will take all damn day.

Then again, I am not sure if I should straighten my hair before Aunt Jackie's part. It's not that I plan on sweating my hair out. But I don't want to risk getting hot and my hair frizzing up. The last thing I want to do is have to straighten my roots the morning I start work. Making a great first impression is very important. And besides, I might be able to learn something from my new boss.
