1: The Sick Queen

Ryan paced his bedroom waiting for the doctors to tell him the news about his sick wife. Being the reigning king of Greenville for the last 20 years he and his wife had been through a lot. He was a tall man with dark hair and muscle but no fat he had always kept himself together. But over the last few months, he had slowly let himself go.

Because in the last few months, Emma his wife had gotten very sick. And he was waiting for them to let him in on how long she had left. He knew the reason behind his wife’s sickness and that the entire kingdom was going to be in grave danger.

“Your majesty.”

He stopped in his tracks turning towards the castle doctor. He was hoping that they had good news and that the entire kingdom would not be going into a panic. “Yes.”

“She has less than a week she is getting worse and worse.” The doctor knew this wasn’t what he wanted to hear but it was the only thing they had to tell him.

“Yes leave us send in my son.” Ryan knew it was time to act they weren’t going to have a lot of time left.

“Yes, my king.” He nodded before exiting the room.

Ryan went and sat by his wife’s bedside he knew what she was going to say next and he wasn’t sure if he could see it through.

“It is time.” Emma said she knew they had to do this now. It was time to keep the promise she had kept to her best friend that her goddaughter would be found. That the world would be safe.

She always held the sweetest smile with her honey blond hair and slim figure while she was shorter than her husband where she went respect was given to her. She was always gentle with those around her raising her son to respect the others around him but not to let anyone walk over him.

“Sweetie you need to rest.” Ryan knew what she wanted to do but he also knew it would put them all in danger if they let this happen. No one would agree with what they were trying to do.

“We need to find her.” Emma ordered she knew their world didn’t stand a chance without her here.

“Emma.” Ryan sighed he knew they had talked about this years ago and that the two were destined to meet and they would save them. But he wasn’t sure how good the warning had been. He knew she said it was her goddaughter but this was their son who they were sending into fire.

“No listen to me Lucinda thought me falling in love with you would work to her benefit. A witch and a human have never been seen before and never will be if Lucinda has her way. Cameron and Xavier were friends of mine. They fell in love and they weren’t supposed to. Their daughter is the key our son is the key.” Emma knew he didn’t want to listen but it was true they had what it took to make the kingdom great to save us all.

“I’m not even sure where i would find her.” Ryan sighed he knew she always said when they found her they would know but he wasn’t as sure of that as she was.

Emma chuckled slightly she knew it wasn’t going to be easy but she knew it was because of her best friends they were going to be able to get through this. “They were uniting us for the better before the barrier closed. Before Lucinda got her way you have to find her.”

“There are thousands of girls in this kingdom.” Ryan knew it wasn’t going to be an easy task no matter what they did they were going to have a hard time finding this one girl.

“But none like her,” Emma assured she knew the minute she saw her goddaughter she was going to know it was her. She was sure she would be a mini version of her father with the personality of her mother. She sat up slowly. “Fire and Ice she’s different she’ll stick out like a sore thumb. Let him meet her if he is anything like you it’ll be love at first sight. He will be drawn to her nothing will stop him from having her.”

The door opened and Jonah walked in closing the door behind him. He was tall like his father but shared all of his mother’s gentle features with his hair being slightly darker than his mother's swooped to the side. “Mother.”

“Jonah my beautiful boy.” Emma had become proud of the boy her son had become. She knew he was going to be a great king and he would do right by the entire kingdom.

Jonah went and kneeled on the other side of his mother he had hated to see the toll this was taking on his mother. “What is happening?”

“It is time for you to find a wife for you to take over your father’s kingdom for you to be happy i want to be here for your wedding.” Emma refused to die before she got to see her only son get married. She knew she was going to miss everything because as soon as the barrier went down she would be gone right along with it.

“But I’m not ready.” Jonah knew he was now 19 so he was of age to take over his father’s kingdom but he wasn’t sure he would make a good ruler.

“I know my child but we mustn’t wait any longer. The time has finally come.” Emma knew this was going to be a lot for him but they didn’t have much choice of what they could do right now.

“Yes, mother.” Jonah knew that if his mother was saying the time had come then he was going to have to do this now.

Emma knew they needed to find her and fast although she wasn’t sure if her name had changed. She knew Layla could be anywhere so it needed to be done now so it could happen before she passed. “Your father should issue a royal decree for a ball you will choose a wonderful girl for our kingdom.”

“Yes, mother.” If his mother wished to see him married than that was what was going to happen he was going to get married.

“Jonah my son you know that i only want the best for you.” Emma smiled.

“I know mother.” Jonah took his mothers hand.

“Good my son you will make a wonderful king i know your father can agree with me when i say it’s time to give our kingdom a fair chance.” Emma knew it was time for the kingdom to finally come together again and be the kingdom they always should have been.

“Emma!”

“Ryan!”

Jonah sighed he knew his mom he knew the other ‘freaks’ and members of the unknown should get the chance to live in Greenville too. “Dad she is right if me and mom are fine here then they deserve a chance to get to live this life right along with us.”

“Always the optimist just like your mother.” Ryan knew that was a trait that had drawn him towards Emma in the first place the fact she could always see the best in everyone around her. He took a breath sitting straight knowing they were right. “What do you need us to do?”

Emma knew this was a lot to ask of them but she knew when she was gone it would be up to them. She knew Layla had no idea what she was going to be up against and she was going to need guidance to get through this.

“Listen to me son when Lucinda breaks through she will be trying to hurt everyone here and there is one person who can stop her. We must find the princess of fire and ice. She doesn’t know who she is she will be scared. Help her to understand and tell her of her past. Tell her who you are. She will not want to do this but this is her destiny. Her parents may not be alive still but they risked everything to make sure she could be our hope of peace.”

“Yes, mother.” Jonah knew what he had to do he was going to make sure he made her proud.

“She doesn’t know she’s going to think she is a freak she is going to want to hide don’t let her.”

“I’ll do whatever i have to mother.” He would make sure the kingdom was safe. He was going to make sure his mother’s sacrifice was worth it.

Emma put her hand on her son’s cheek caressing it slightly she knew that she could have never imagined a life without them in it. “You are the best gift i could ever ask for. When I first came here I never imagined what my life would be like but this is more than i could ever ask for. ”

“I never imagined falling in love with someone from their world but i never change this for the world. ” Ryan knew that loving Emma was by far the best decision he had ever made.
