Chapter 4 On the Run

Cecilia's Perspective:

I didn't dare lift my head until Silas had left.

"Cecilia, what's going on? Weren't you home last night? How do you know the esteemed Alpha King?" my dad asked, all excited.

"It's not me who knows Silas. It must be that bitch Seraphina. Didn't you tell me to give her the unwanted evening dress yesterday? I thought the necklace was ugly, so I gave it to her, too. She came back covered in hickeys, and Silas showed up with that necklace."

"So, Silas is looking for that bitch!"

I felt a mix of jealousy and resentment. Why did everything good always happen to her? Why?

"What?" Ophelia's face changed, worried. "What if Silas finds out you lied to him?"

"He won't find out if we don't let him."

Thinking of Seraphina in the dungeon, a murderous intent surged within me. "As long as that bitch quietly disappears from this world, no one will know what happened that night. And I will marry into the Wolf Tribe and become the Luna revered by all wolves!"

Seraphina's Perspective:

I woke up in a daze, hearing some werewolves whispering. When I opened my eyes, I saw them hurrying out, like they were avoiding something.

Just as I was trying to figure it out, Amy sneaked in from the corner.

"Cecilia is planning to kill you to cover up what happened last night," Amy said anxiously, pulling out pliers to break the chains.

My heart skipped a beat. I had planned to expose their deeds and reclaim everything Carol had taken after my mom's death. But I never thought they would want to kill me to silence me. Did Carol really have no fatherly affection for me? I was his daughter, too.

At that moment, any remaining hope I had for Carol shattered.

"We can't explain now; we'll talk once we're out," Amy said, sweating profusely.

"Amy, do you smell something?" I sniffed, my heart pounding.

It was the smell of gas. They were going to blow this place up!

Amy smelled it, too, and became frantic.

"Amy, you need to go. If you stay, we'll both die here!" I pushed her urgently.

"I will never leave you behind!" Amy threw down the pliers, transformed into a wolf, and bit through the chains, breaking her teeth in the process.

I stared in shock at Amy, her mouth full of blood, and picked up her broken fangs with trembling hands.

Blood relatives had forsaken me, yet here was a friend, without blood ties, who treated me like a treasure.

The irony was bitter!

Amy turned back into human form, grabbed my hand, and we ran.

There was a secret exit only Amy and I knew. We used to sneak in and play there as kids, and now it was my escape route.

"Seraphina!" Amy pushed me forward, tears welling in her eyes. "Run, don't look back!"

"We go together!" I gripped her hand tightly, sensing her intentions.

"If they know you're alive, they'll hunt you down endlessly. Only if you 'die' will they be at ease, and you can live freely! Seraphina, your mother saved my life and my mother's, so I'm not afraid. I won't let them hurt you anymore!"

"So, Seraphina, you must stay alive and reclaim what is rightly yours!"

"No, no!" Realizing Amy was prepared to give her life for me, I broke down, unable to articulate my pain, shaking my head repeatedly.

My heart felt like it was being ripped apart, the grief suffocating.

"Go! There's no time!" Amy pushed me hard, shouting, "If you don't go, I'll die right here!"

I knew I had no other choice. I took a step back, tears blurring my vision.

Amy turned and ran back into the dungeon without hesitation.

I, with clenched teeth, ran in the opposite direction toward the possibility of hope.

Boom!

I reached the mountaintop, and the explosion behind me made my heart skip a beat. I fell to the ground, watching the dungeon below erupt in flames, smoke swirling with ashes in the air.

"Amy!" I shouted out her name.

The entire dungeon collapsed, massive stones crushing the wooden pillars to dust. I couldn't imagine if Amy had survived; the chances were slim.

I hugged my knees in agony, unable to hold back my tears.

A fire burned within me, scorching the ridiculous affection I had for my family for the past eighteen years. Every breath came with excruciating pain.

At that moment, I realized that there might no longer be anyone left in the world who truly cared for me.
