Prince Greg’s suspicions

Prince Greg’s POV

In the heart of the wolf pack's castle, I laid in the garden lounge, the flickering light of my conjured flames casting playful shadows on the walls.

I loved playing with my powers as it made me think deeply about the things going on in the kingdom. I was half magic and half wolf which made me different from the wolves around.

I wore only briefs, a glass of whisky in hand, savoring the burn of the liquor as I watched the fire dance between my fingers.

The relaxation, however, was short-lived, as the sound of approaching footsteps interrupted my peace.

Elder Raxon, the king’s trusted advisor, entered the lounge, accompanied by a stern-looking guard and a young woman with striking silver hair.

Her presence was unmistakable; she was from the Snow Fox Tribe, a people known for their stealth and loyalty.

Raxon bowed respectfully to me, but my gaze remained on the flames.

"Your Highness," Raxon began, his voice measured and calm, "I have brought you a personal guard from the Snow Fox Tribe, as per the king’s orders."

I took a long swig from my glass, barely acknowledging the elder. "I don’t need a personal guard," I said dismissively, waving them away with a lazy flick of my wrist. "Leave me be."

Raxon chuckled, an ominous sound that cut through the air.

He stepped closer to me, his expression hardening. "Prince Greg, it would be wise not to defy the king’s orders. You are, after all, just a prince. To avoid embarrassing yourself in front of the guard and your new personal protector, I suggest you accept this arrangement and move on."

My eyes flashed with anger, but I forced a smile, my teeth gritted. "Very well," I said, my voice tight. "I accept."

I looked at the woman with narrowed eyes. “And you are?”

The young woman stepped forward, bowing gracefully. "My name is Anna," she said, her voice soft but steady.

I nodded, dismissing the others with a wave. As they turned to leave, I noticed Anna’s gaze lingering on my muscular body, barely covered by my briefs. A smirk tugged at my lips. "Do you like what you see?" I asked, my tone teasing.

Anna’s cheeks flushed, and she quickly looked away.

I admired how Anna looked but deep down I didn’t trust her.

“You can get yourself comfortable,” I waved to the palace as she bowed before leaving.

I watched her leave. I needed to meet my brother and ask him what this was for.

The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the castle. I moved with purpose through the dimly lit corridors, my mind preoccupied with the encounter I would have with Cole.

As I entered the throne room, I found Cole lounging on his grand seat, a bemused smile playing on his lips.

He looked up as I approached, his eyes twinkling with amusement.

"Ah, Greg," he greeted, his voice carrying a hint of mockery. "Do you like your new personal guard?"

My eyes narrowed. "I don’t need a guard," I replied coolly. "If I needed a sex slave, I would have gotten one myself."

He chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that echoed through the hall. "Anna is not for your bed, brother. She is for your security."

I scoffed, crossing my arms over my chest. "I can handle myself."

"I don’t doubt your abilities," he said smoothly, "but she is there to help you handle your duties."

I scoffed at the word "duties." There was a subtle implication in his tone that suggested I was not up to the task.

I felt a cold suspicion creep into my mind. Something was amiss.

“I have waged war and won countless battles and you talk to me about handling my duties? Seriously brother. What are you not telling me?”

“I am looking out for you. The least you can say is thank you.”

“The least you can do is trust me.”

Cole stood up from his throne in anger as he took in deep breaths.

“We are done with this conversation,” said the king in controlled anger. That was all I needed from him.

I needed him to make a mistake and I would get him. He did and now I owned him.

Without another word, I turned on my heel and left the throne room, my mind racing. I needed more answers, and I knew exactly where to find them.

Later that evening, I met with my trusted spies in the privacy of my chambers. The flickering candlelight cast eerie shadows on the walls as we huddled together, speaking in hushed tones.

"I need you to find out who this Anna girl really is," I instructed, my voice low and urgent. "And why my brother has assigned her to me."

The spies nodded, “we will do that sir.”

With that, they slipped silently into the darkness. I paced the room, the unease in my gut growing stronger with each passing moment.

Midnight had long since passed when I felt the presence of my spies in the room. They materialized from the shadows, their expressions grave.

"What did you find?" I asked, my heart pounding.

One of the spies stepped forward, his voice barely above a whisper. "We overheard a conversation between Elder Raxon and the king. It turns out that Anna is here to spy on you, Your Highness. But we do not know why."

A slow, wicked smile spread across my face. "So, my dear brother thinks he can outsmart me," I murmured to myself. "Very well. If it's a game he wants, it's a game he'll get."
