Chapter 2

Luciana's POV

It was dark and cold, but I could still feel my limbs. Was this the afterlife? Was I in heaven?

No, that's not right. I killed myself, I was supposed to be in hell. Then, was this hell?

No, this wasn't hell. It was too peaceful, too serene.

"Yes, you're right. This place is too peaceful for it to be hell." I heard a voice say.

"Where am I? " I asked but noticed that I couldn't hear my voice.

"You're still in the water. You're dying." The voice said again.

"I'm dying?" I asked. "I'm dying!" I shouted, panicked.

"Someone will come to get you out of here in the next five seconds but do not forget, you are a child of prophecy. That is the only reason why I bothered to save you." The voice said coldly.

"Child of prophecy? That's not me. I'm a failure, a disgrace to my family." I said in my mind.

"I do not care about all that bullshit. The only thing I care about is you fulfilling your purpose." The voice said again.

"Two seconds left... Luciana." The voice called. "No matter what you've faced or what you will go through, never end your life. You were actually dead. The only thing that kept you alive is the prophecy. "The voice paused.

"You can have the courage to do a lot of things, even ending people's lives, when they intend to harm you, but never possess the courage to take your life. It is a gift with no price."

That was the last thing I heard before the darkness took over again.

...............

My eyes fluttered open and I couldn't help but close it after the light invaded my sight. I stood up with a groan and looked around. I was in a hospital.

How did I get to the hospital?

"The patient who tried to commit suicide is awake!" I heard someone shout.

"Call her guardian!" Another voice said, shouting.

I had no guardian. What guardian were they talking about?

A lady who looked to be in her mid thirties came walking towards me. She wore a floral dress and had her brunette hair packed in a bun.

"Luciana, darling!" She exclaimed.

My mouth opened in shock. She called me a darling, something my birth parents never once called me.

"How could you do that to yourself? Why would you try to take your own life?" She asked.

I became confused. First, no one except Lorenzo ever cared about me, but now two people I didn't know are asking questions on why I tried to take my life.

She hit me gently on my shoulders as she wept silently. "The world has been too cruel to you, hasn't it?" She said,

"Your parents are the cruelest of them all. Sending their daughter who just turned twenty because she couldn't transform out of the house."

My lips parted in shock and my throat became dry. "You knew my parents?"

Duncan's POV

I couldn't believe it. My mate was about to die. Someone I had never met before, and I was affected as much as this.

I didn't want any mate. I only needed Arielle in my life. She was the only thing I wanted, whether the mate bond existed or not.

"You can go now." I told the seer.

She was shocked.

"Don't you want to find out where she is?" She asked.

"I don't."

"You cannot ignore the mate bond, you must be with your mate!"

"I do not need a freaking mate! I have all I need with me."

"But, does she?" She asked.

I knew she was referring to Arielle so I didn't reply.

"If she were to find her mate, she would leave you. Duncan, you know it."

I knew it. The mate bond was a sacred and holy thing for all werewolves. It connected two werewolves together eternally. The only way the mate was broken was if one of them died, the one left in the world loses all will to live. They become an empty shell of their former self.

I knew that she would leave me but I didn't want to believe it.

"Our love is strong." I said affirmatively. "She won't leave me."

"To hell with your messed up love Duncan. To hell with it!!" She retorted back.

I was angry and I could feel myself trembling with rage.

"You will address me as supreme Alpha, Sheba!" I ordered standing up.

"You are not my alpha, and therefore I can choose whatever I want to call you." Sheba said with a smirk.

She turned to leave, but not without reminding me about the prophecy.

"That stupid prophecy."

Luciana's POV

The lady had introduced herself to me as Celina. She told me she was a white wolf but she was from a different clan.

She was banished after she lost her ability to shapeshift due to a curse.

She told me to follow her to her house, so I could rest for the night.

The night had been extremely long and I had nowhere to stay, so I agreed.

She refused to board a cab because her house wasn't that far off. We had to walk. I didn't mind walking, I would be able to arrange my thoughts while walking.

All through the way, she didn't say a word and I appreciated the silence. It was calming.

My thoughts went back to the conversation I had with the voice before u was rescued.

It had said I was a child of prophecy, and I couldn't die yet. Everything was too confusing, and I was sure I had died before.

"At least, I have a reason to live." I muttered to myself.

I was going to do everything in my power to fulfill the prophecy, no matter what it was. It was the only reason for my life anyway.

We arrived at her house and from the way it looked, it gave a cozy feeling, something my house never had.

"Welcome to my humble abode!" Celina said with a small smile. "Pull off your wet clothes and take a hot shower. It'll help you relax." She said,

She directed me to the bathroom and gave me some clothes.

"Take your time. Dinner will be ready by the time you're done." She said, leaving me alone.

I gingerly stepped into the bathroom that had cream coloured tiles and took my bath.

I came out after thirty minutes and the scent of roasted potatoes greeted me. My mouth watered in response.

"C'mon, have your seat. The food doesn't bite, you're the one who should bite it." She said laughing at her joke.

I couldn't help but smile as well. "So, nice people exist. " I said in my mind.

The table looked very fancy, like a buffet. There were roasted potatoes, corn soup, grilled lamb meat, a little rice, a few slices of cake and orange juice.

"How did you make all this so fast?"I asked with awe.

"I had some of them already prepared." She replied honestly.

"Did you know you would meet me?" I asked.

"No. Actually, the universe gave me signs to prepare something like this."

"The universe can speak to you?!" I asked, excitement filling my voice.

"No, not really." She said, rubbing her neck."I just pay attention to it, that's all. It doesn't matter what you want to do, you will definitely find directions on the earth, if only you can be attentive."

I had no idea what she meant but I nodded my head like I understood.

"Let's eat,"She said.

I took a bite from the roasted potato and smiled in satisfaction. It was extremely good!
