Chapter 3
"What's your name?" Katherine asked the man who followed her before they reached home.
"Elano Benjamin," he replied casually making Katherine raise an eyebrow. "Does my name sound familiar? Maybe it's been on some Billboard or businessman's hologram."
Katherine smiled softly. "Your name sounds like I've heard it but I've never seen it on a hologram or Billboard. Because I don't study any business other than research. Besides, you can't just put holograms or billboards here, because if the material is not strong, the billboards or holograms will melt or even catch fire. The temperature in our city is the highest compared to other cities, it's just that the settlements are too dense out there and we can't find another place to move to. That's why we're only able to settle here and try to survive," she muttered making Elano raise an eyebrow.
"That bad, huh?"
Katherine sighed and nodded, she didn't know how to say everything. The situation in this city had been quite bad the past few years and not just from this year so there were many stories immersed in it and all were mixed between joy or sorrow.
Most of them were sad stories because no one would have been able to face this climate change if it wasn't for the fact that their lives were still saved by God. They as research experts and also some combined doctors can only try their best. Making pills that increase the ability of human survival, making some new inventions so that the supplements are getting bigger and bigger, also making buildings that are getting upgraded with the sophistication of technology that they can actually use but if they are not serious about the formulation then it will only cause destruction.
Katherine since the age of eighteen has been involved in this business and helped several researchers, she has even volunteered and also experienced a disaster that caused her house to be destroyed due to the shock of an earthquake and also an erupting mountain.
It was a difficult thing to deal with, but they were able to stay alive, even if not entirely. That's why the officers who oversee the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency in this city are always on alert every day to make warnings in case of earthquakes or similar disasters. They will never live in peace until all formulations and also restore the ability of the earth to be able to balance between heat and cold and the strength that used to be.
Hearing Katherine's story Elano could only remain silent and watched the girl with a serious look.
"We are just humans who live in water and get quite complicated circumstances like this. I don't know how to save thousands of human lives at once. This research is also costing a lot of money, I'm afraid it won't turn out the way we want it to and it'll end badly."
Elano sighed heavily. "I'm sure you can, you have that much ability and you've been asked by God to be here so God must know that you have the ability to do it. Over the past few years you have always succeeded and never failed so you should succeed now too. If your goal is to help people, then you should have no trouble doing so," he said making Katherine smile softly.
"I hope it's like that, I consider having a human here just like my life, I must take good care of it."
They arrived home and Katherine immediately introduced Elano to his mother. Sonya welcomed them well, before Katherine finally invited Elano to eat together with his mother as well. They listened to Elano's story and arrival to the city, got a glimpse of his life and then Katherine took him around to buy groceries.
"How long will you be here? If you really intend to make a long visit, it's better to rent a house instead of having to rent an inn that is not complete with a kitchen and the like. You should be smarter about choosing a place because life here is not as easy as in other cities. There are restaurants here but they don't open every day, only on certain days where nature is not so terrible. I'm afraid that if you continue to live like this, you might starve to death," Katherine said, making Elano raise an eyebrow.
"Umm, where is a house that I can rent? Is the house next to yours empty? You're the only one I know here, so it's best if I live near you, so it's easier for me."
Katherine was silent for a moment. "My mom has one of those houses that isn't being used. It's not very big, but it's complete with one room and one bathroom. The room is temporarily resistant to all kinds of disasters, you'll be fine there until we can get a building formula that is strong enough to withstand the situation," she said making Elano nod.
"You can add some detectors that can deal with changing situations. In one of the countries there is such a thing as a smart building, although it is not all-weather resistant like you want. It's just that the detectors are necessary, you won't be disappointed if you include them in the research."
Katherine looked outside where she was in a flying car and was traveling through the city streets to the supermarket.
"I've made a design that is difficult to determine the appropriate materials," Katherine said as she grabbed her tablet and pressed one side until it lit up. "I don't know how it will turn out, I still have to do some research into the neighborhood where they live to be able to get a suitable result."
Elano looked at the checkered building in front of him. There were several options, half spheres, cones and also boxes. Some of them have been given additions for large-scale lightning rods and also strong foundations, so that they can provide benefits and also good quality.
"After this, if the investigation and research are successful, I will proceed to a serious level. Discuss it with the professors and make everything better by refining it."
Elano looked at Katherine who had parked her flying car in one corner of the supermarket parking lot.
"Once it is deemed safe and sufficient, then we will proceed to the construction stage. Everything is in accordance with the expectations and wishes, after that we will succeed in preaching a comfortable and good residence for their lives."
Elano nodded in understanding and got out of the flying car. He stared at the large building in front of him. It looked sophisticated and clean in silver-white, making it look so nice.
"This is different from the one in my city," Elano said making Katherine raise her eyebrows. "In my city the door is visible, here it is not."
"Yes, because our city was the worst damaged." Katherine took out a card from her digital watch. "There is no door here, we will be picked up by some kind of box that might be called an elevator to take us inside."
