Chapter 6

"After this, is there a chance that everything will be rejected?" Katherine looked at some of the writing in her book.

She had made many comparisons and also some other small things that were related to bigger things. After all the research she had done, she hadn't had a break in two days so now she wanted to take her eyes away again after cleaning up her books.

It was only towards evening Katherine was already quite tired and there was no way she hadn't eaten dinner. Her mother would be worried if she said she ate because her mind was constantly focused on her work and research.

"Katherine, are you still busy?"

Her mother's voice calling from outside made her get up and walk towards the door. There she found her mother who was smiling gently and looking at her attentively.

"What's wrong, Mom?"

"Your friend is here," Sonya said making Katherine raise her eyebrows.

"Who's my friend? I don't think I have any appointments with my friends in the research organization. We're meeting at the office tomorrow to discuss our findings and research."

Really, Katherine was too tired to go out, right now she was just trying to keep her spirits up because dinner was coming up.

"Not a friend of the research organization, he's Elano. That man you saved a few days ago, isn't he your friend?"

Katherine was silent for a moment, just remembering that there was a man who came from one of the cities and she had almost forgotten him for the past few days because they had never met again. Katherine who was so busy with her life and research, the man who was doing who knows what and never came to her again made her almost forget but then he came here and that made Katherine know that maybe there was something he needed.

"Mom doesn't want to see him? Maybe there's something he needs."

"You'd better since it's cooking, you're both young so it might be more comfortable to talk to each other right? Moreover, he also looks like a smart person so I'm afraid I won't connect if I talk to him." Sonya said making Katherine nod in the end.

"You have to finish the cooking soon, because I'm already feeling very hungry and after eating I'm going to sleep because I have to come to the research office tomorrow. I have a lot of things to do so I want to rest early so hopefully nothing will happen to her."

Sonya smiled softly and nodded, they parted ways as Katherine had to go ahead and Sonya headed for the kitchen as she couldn't leave her cooking for long. That made Katherine look at the man sitting there and smile.

"Did I disturb your evening?"

Katherine smiled softly and shook her head. "Why, uh, I just noticed some new people. Are they your friends?" asked Katherine making Elano smile softly.

"No, he's my assistant and secretary and these are my servants. I deliberately asked them to come here because I want to spend time here. It feels like it would be difficult without them because I can't be too much trouble for you, right? So I intentionally came here to introduce them to you and also wanted to ask, do I have to report here if I bring new people?"

Katherine smiled softly and shook her head. "It's not necessary as long as you've passed the police checks at several posts before entering the city. The city government is too busy to secure the few citizens who have experienced and received calamities or missing citizens due to natural disasters. If you have permission and are authorized to live here, that includes registering and reporting.

"There is no need to report to other people, the important thing is that you can take good care of yourself here and don't get hurt. The matter of reporting to people who are important or have something to do with the arrival of guests, that is no longer valid and there is no one who used to do it anymore. It's just like when you go abroad and you need a passport and visa, you don't need to report that you're coming to the country to the local government. Because you are already registered as a foreigner by the police station on guard before you can arrive in this city."

"Then I won't feel worried anymore." Elano said with a sigh of relief. "After this, it will be easier for me to carry out my life and the projects I have to complete here. After that and after I finish everything, I will also leave this place because I have a place to live there and it is impossible for me to leave for too long."

Katherine smiled softly while Elano was already pushing a sizable paper bag at her.

"These are gifts brought by my assistants and servants from the city. Think of it as gratitude even if this gratitude is a little small to you. You've been very kind and helpful to me. You even helped me find a place to live and provided assistance by taking me to the supermarket when I couldn't and I was almost desperate in the middle of the city that was so hot that it almost made me melt.

"I know that I can't possibly bother you every day because you have a job but if you have one or two free times I hope to spend time with you. I'm really interested in becoming friends with you so can we be friends for now? You're the only person I've met in the midst of my new unfamiliar atmosphere. I was lucky enough to meet you so I want to establish a closer relationship by becoming friends." Elano said at length making Katherine smile softly.

"I'm not a difficult person to befriend if you really want to be friends with me. However, I may not be as pleasant as ordinary people when it comes to making friends because I have to focus on every problem and also the life that I am going through. As a young professor, I'm required to make discoveries even when I step foot. I can't enjoy my life too much so I want to give you a little understanding at the beginning. Befriending me is fine, but in the midst of my busy life I may not be able to make time for you if you need it. So I apologize now," Katherine said making Elano smile and nod in understanding.

He knew that Katherine was not an unemployed girl. He had said before that this girl looked smart and could not mess with her, Katherine was not the same girl as the girls in town who were always flirting and also looking for attention on him.

This girl was different Elano realized there weren't many people who cared so much about him when he was here. Even some of the girls here also never looked in his direction because if they went out, they would come back quickly because the sunlight and also the heat effect were so high and made them dislike being outside for long.

"I understand about that, we can probably meet when you're not busy. I still need your help for a few things including to fulfill my needs in terms of advanced technology so that I can easily get in touch with the people in this city as well as you."
